I had just bought NSMBU and then went back to the main menu. When I decided to go back to the eShop it froze while loading and required unplugging. Then it would no longer boot.

Was the screen black when you turned it back on? Apparantly that happens when you are downloading an update and restart without finishing it... in your case freezing. When you reboot the console the screen stays black until that update is installed. This is what I have read.

You won't be connecting cables to it. They've basically said that the software will pull program data from the Internet and will use the IR blaster in the GamePad to switch inputs and change the channel.

does anyone know if I can program my AV reciever to the gamepad or if they will have that ability? As it is right now, i have to use my multi-remote as it changes the AV receiver as well as the TV.

Wii U doesn't have the same demand as Wii did. However, this doesn't make the Wii U is selling poorly.

It also could mean these stores are holding back stock for Black Friday as well.

Could be true, however I don't even think this is being advertised as a sale item on Black Friday in any ads is it? Wouldn't serve a purpose to hold stock back if they could have a sale now. It will be interesting to see how this thing does before Christmas. Will this be on a kid's wanted list? Will parents pay the premium for this over a ps3 or 360? Will kids want this over an Ipad or cell phone?

Check out Toys"R"Us for a Wii game called FlingSmash. It's 25 bucks and comes with a black Wii Remote with Wiimotion inside. Until the end of today they are having a Buy 1 get 1 for 40% off on all Wii U and Wii games. You could get 2 black Wii remotes for less than 1 with this deal, which is what I did with 4 copies. 85 bucks for 4 Wii Remotes. The only difference between these ones and the new Wii U branded Wii remotes is that the sync button is ont he outside of the new ones as opposed to being on the inside of the battery slot.
Hmm... Maybe I'm going to have to check out Toys R Us tonight.

Is anyone actually enjoying their Wii U? I was going to make a thread asking this question but the front page is so cluttered with Wii U threads already, most if them boiling down to how bad the system sucks.

Well i for one am really enjoying it along with my 8 yr old daughter. She prefers us playing together in Nintendo Land, but im more into NSMBU. She's just not very good at it and doesnt really know the Mario Universe that i grew up with.

I've already spent more time with it than i did the Wii during its entire life cycle. I hated the waggle controls from the beginning. I love the game pad and its nice to finally see some HD graphics on a Nintendo console.

Surely I am not on an island out here by myself.

I was enjoying it. Then I read all complaints and proceeded to smash it with a hammer.
Seriously though, I've been playing Enjoying the hell out of it. I'm like a kid at Christmas. A few speed bumps, but nothing I can't be patient with.

Ive spoke with a buddy at Target who said they held 4 wiiu's for black friday, i can only assume its the same across other Targets.

Unfortunately you can't.
I hope they give us a more advanced remote at some point in the future.

that would suck hard if he sent it to NOA and all he had to do was wait an hour or so for the screen to boot from black but how would he have know this?

tough luck there

I'd want it to know that I recorded Mythbusters on the DVR and let me play it. Unfortunately I don't see that happening unless they can get access to TiVo Apis etc and hook up to the over the network. If you could stream off TiVo onto your gamepad that would be awesome.

I think being able to search for something and record it, but then not be able to access it will be a less great experience. I don't know how they can integrate with your DVR well enough to make it a real gamechanger

No, the system completely died. It powered on for a second, blinked once, and then powered off.

Yeah, personally I wish that the signal was just a bit better, as right now I don't really have much success outside of the main open living room/dining room/hallway area that has good line of sight. We're not talking about an insignificant distance at all, so I'm not shaking my fist at what I perceive to be terrible hardware. However, it's just not reliable in pretty much any other room.

I haven't even tried the kitchen which is pretty close to the receiver notwithstanding two walls to go through. But it was 50/50 laying in bed.

I'd be tempted to put my wiiU up on a high shelf near the ceiling to get better reception in the bedroom, but then it'd be difficult to get discs in.

Interesting, still doesn't make sense from a business perspective unless they are running an ad for wii u guaranteed in stock, which they aren't.

Does that trick where your rename an HDMI input to "PC" to disable overscan usually work? Having elements of the UI cut off is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Depends on the TV. On my five-year-old Panasonic plasma, for instance, it doesn't work. At least, it never worked outputting my PC via HDMI. I don't really use it much anymore as I've replaced it in the living room, so I can't say whether or not it would work with the Wii U.

Love the game streaming aspect. Watching college basketball last night on ESPN, decided I wanted to play Mario. Turned the power button on from my gamepad and played a couple levels while keeping one eye on the game. I'm extremely impressed with the sound clarity out of the wii u pad speakers.

I'm not going to go as far to say I won't buy a Wii U game if streaming isn't allowed, but it is a great perk.

That's 5.5 million shipped through March 31. For comparison, Wii had shipped 3.19 million by the end of 2006, and was at 5.84 million through March 2007.

Ok, cheers for clearing it up, looking forward to seeing how many it shifts, they will prob wait until late December for actual numbers so most of the world has access it to imo.

I love watching baseball throughout the summer. I can see this perk coming in handy.

You just saved me 40 bucks, new best friend! :) Thanks.

I think Iwata said in a Nintendo Direct that the speeds will be similar (USB DD vs. Optical Disk). Love to hear impressions though.

Mrbob praising something Nintendo is rare, which makes it even better.

Man, I haven't been this conflicted about making a purchase in ages. On the one hand I really want a new console experience as well as NSMB U. On the other hand the €400 price point (deluxe edition + NSMBU) as well as all the negativity and problems surrounding the OS, shitty ports and potentially under powered hardware make me reluctant to pick it up.

I really want some new hardware + a new Mario game though. So it's either going to be a 3DS XL + Mario 3D Land or the Wii U deluxe + New Super Mario Brothers U.

Call me ADD if you want, but I really enjoy splitscreen gaming. I always get so impatient during load times and there's nothing like a good light sitcom or cartoon to keep me entertained during those down periods in games.

So I'm really enjoying being able to start netflix on a tablet and just keeping it running as I play my PS3 or 360 games. I'm sure you can set up any other tablet to do the same, but I didn't have a good enough reason to buy one. Its just a cool little side use I never really thought about until today. Shame you can't do it during Wii U games, but hey, you can play most wii u games on the tablet, while netflix is on the tv through the ps3.

So basically now netflix can be on every day at all times, and I'm pretty happy about that.

My advice: Wiiu + NSMBU. You get a console + handheld all in one.

RE: Battery life

Instead of a large capacity battery I'd rather Nintendo had designed it to be hot-swappable. Just snap out the empty one and snap in the charged battery. The Gamepad is already heavy enough.

Unless you are truly a portable gamer I would get the Wii U- the Gamepad is basically turning into a 3DS at home for me. I rarely even look at the TV right now!

Any word on what points cards will work with the Wii U? I want to give siblings an easy out for Christmas.

Pretty sure all the Nintendo Point cards with with both the 3DS and Wii U however they can only be used on the console you apply them too until Nintendo adds the network ID functions on the 3DS and hopefully allows you to use the points on both then.

Most of these problems plague any console launche. If you're feeling that apprehensive wait it out.

Ah. I'm looking for confirmation before I put it on my wish list. :)

Maybe I'll just stop at target and buy one and see if it works. If not, I'll certainly spend $20 on 3DS.

Nice tip!

I was heading there tonight for one. I really could use two more.

Yea, I have 14 bucks on mt 3DS and was hoping that I could use that on my WiiU but unfortunately they aren't linked so there is no way to transfer the points yet.
