Mer il es fou!

My mad college french skills pay off! Except What the hell does that mean? It reads like its trying to call somebody crazy or a fool (il es fou), but what does the ocean have to do with it (mer)? Is that supposed to be "mais?" "But he is crazy?"

Is this like some sort of French leetspeeak?

And that is the first time I've used French since graduation, other than to sound snooty to my other Georgia residents.

So the U.S. Patent cites Wii U as "Universal Remote Controller"

Could this mean total control over the TV?
(Is such a thing even... possible?)
It would certainly make sense with the huge ram for OS... if you can preview a couple of channels on the pad while the tv is running, I think that's a big selling point. (plus, messing with your roommate's tv time)

Oh lawd, I just got an idea!

Imagine a crazy gameshow running on the TV while you're holding the Upad, communicating with your team members and answering questions/playing games. As you get better, you can end up live at the show, and win stuff! Live from your living room.

There Nintendo, license my idea and rake in the cashews. Run with it!!

Not in the sense you think. The Wii U remote has IR input and output (unclear if it can happen all at the top or some combination of the IR camera and sensor bar). But you could use it as a universal remote for a television or entertainment center.

I would imagine it's not that complicated. After all, we've been able to buy catch-all reprogrammable TV remotes for use with your tv, dvd, radio etc for years.

Nintendo will succeed in making the Wii U the go-to living room hub for millions of people if this comes true

+ their recent acquisition of Mobiclip, i've written something about it in the thread 2. They did a lot of stuff for TV/Mobile TV application, we can imagine streaming of live or recorded content on the controller, padlet used as a tv remote, associated with an app to watch programs, etc.

It's a french meme that comes from a 13 Years-Old misspelling a lot in his messages asking if he should buy a PSP. One of those misspellings was "MER IL ET FOU" a very misspelled way to say "But he is crazy".

"Today, live from the living room, it's Mr. Penis!"

That's really strange! Typically international memes rely on images to get around language barriers. Somehow this one survives on just the words itself.

Actually "Mer il et fou" is a kind of french même, bien in the Gamekult's boards. There was a young boy who as if he should buy a PSP, then he said that people will "Mer il et fou". He had a bad orthography so people made fun of him.

The Wibes logo is fucking terrible; we are in 2012, we have dozens of good and easy-to-use programs and this is what the guy comes up with.

I swear there are several people here that could do better with almost no effort :lol

To be fair, the same can be said of the Wii U logo

"Today, live from the living room, it's Mr. Penis!"

With some augmented reality in the mix, this show could be bonkers. Especially as a crazy japanese show

What happened to the thread title?

C'mon, they can't keep changing it like that every time there's a new one! D:

The thread is now discredited in the eyes of mods :(

A pity because these speculation topics were, are, and will certainly be, a good source of informations about the Wii U, when you separate the wheat from the chaff + a rather good atmosphere with friendly members, well, not when a developer say the Wii U will be underpowered, i must admit :p

The new thread title is the result of abandoning Episode IV: A New Hype and promoting a descent into insanity.

You reap what you sow, Sadist it's on your shoulders this one!

Typographically, the Wii U logo plays in another dimension compared to the Wibes one which doesn't have any concept behind it other than using similar colors.
This post caused me to look up the Wii U logo, and I realized what's wrong with it. The divide between the 'Wii' and 'U' parts of the logo is too great. I get why Nintendo would do this; they want the logo to point to the asynchronous multiplayer with the visual design. It's Wii (remotes) vs U (the tablet). The problem is that the mismatch is significant enough that there's the chance many would just see the familiar 'Wii' and skip over U if they saw the logo briefly, like in a flash at the end of an ad, or while briefly glancing at print advertising. It's a combination of the 'Wii' logo being so familiar, the clashing typefaces, the different colours, and the U being too high above the line, but they simply don't seem to be part of the same logo.
Hopefully this is just a symptom of last year's unveiling being very rushed and they'll have a refined logo, if they're indeed keeping that title. Just bringing the U to the same level as 'Wii' would be a big improvement.

I hope all you Montreal guys are going to the Zelda Concert in May, we need to organize a GAF Meet-up for this.

No, pretty sure the title is the result of DR's prank and the hype train/Reggie face avatars.

It all came to me in a dream man.

Seriously, the wait is taking far to long for Wii U info to emerge.

DR went mad, then everyone else did.

The thread got the insanity it was looking for.

That's because you guys can't just enjoy the ride.
You have to start things. If we don't get news then oh well. If we do then great.
Stop trying to force this stuff.
This thread is for discussion and speculation.

To be fair, the fact that no mods ever post here and most of them took the DS2 director's "on par" comment as the final word probably means that they never thought much of this thread in the first place. :p

This thread is for discussion and speculation.

The WES stuff was embarrassing for GAF, not to mention utterly bizarre the way DR kept playing semantics trying to say it was real. It's hardly a new thing to get random blogs to pick up on something from GAF.

So missed the target as a joke, and just entered plain odd territory.

Which is exactly why so many people hate Nintendo GAF. I understand what he was trying to do, discredit news sites and all, but he did it the entirely wrong way. You don't start the rumor on GAF. Then you're just ruining GAF's image, not news sites.
And now this thread is going to be watched much more closely and the punishments are going to be far more severe.
You guys need to settle down. There's no need to rile people up. We're just days away from the investor's meeting, then we have a bit over a month before E3.

Yeah, I know, but I meant in general. Also, he doesn't really post here much anymore.

I think we might want to slow down with the posting in this thread, though. I wouldn't be shocked if the mods decide against allowing another one after what happened, especially with E3 so close.

That's an interesting idea, actually. Although, I wouldn't want to be on national TV in my undies lol. Assuming it uses the camera...

Some WiiU talk, considering price (manufacturing cost rumor), Darksider dev saying there are limitations/challenges when working on WiiU.

Ugh, could not stand much of that. Insiders with no actual inside sources or understanding of what they hear.

As for the Darksider project lead's comment, it sounds more like they were taking what he said out of context. "Limitations/Challenges" could mean anything. We know the architecture is different in the Wii U already.

You just realized you've no chance to actually get half of the posts in this thread with how crazily people post (man GameplayWhore even is ahead of HylianTom).

But really, with how the rumor threads went, this one should be pretty much scots free too (yes new thread for new news, but still). Just sad we got nothing substantial since a long time.

it's genuinely a good idea to never listen to the folks over at Gametrailers. They usually don't know shit.

Agree.

Back to a Nintendo related note, was talking about this in the other thread about the eShop's bizarre fetish for renaming games in different regions.

If they are trying to pull their online things together they really need to stop this. It's hard enough for digital only games to get exposure anyway on Nintendo platforms, let alone when they all have different names in each region. On top of delays in getting them up in each one as well.

Nintendo really need to get a uniform approach to online, part of how little games blow up is word of mouth and people talking about them. This is basic stuff, and yet they manage to make it much more difficult by giving everything different names.

The problem is they might not be able to have those names in some countries.
It's not a fetish, it's simply a trademark issue.

Agree.

That is totally not why.

And those guys actually thought that Wii U would be weaker than current gen the whole time. I said wow. They are going to be shocked at E3.

It's not a problem on other platforms, and it's something you can sort out before something goes up.

It reeks of Nintendo trying to repackage games to suit each region, being overbearing with digital delivery (which is one of the problems they face versus Microsoft and Sony), and it plays against the strengths of digital delivery and how games get attention and sales through social networking and being talked about. Publishers and developers want to get their games up everywhere, at the same time, and under the same name is rather helpful!

Stuff like this has to be sorted out if the Nintendo Network is going to make up the ground lost to their rivals.
