Witcher 3 Wins GOTY @ The Game Awards 2015!

It's about the 1.01 patch that enabled the game. They had a little guide up on how to get the patch: GOG client, GOG.com, or alternatively play.thewitcher.com or some website like that, which had a torrented version of the patch and was not an official website.

Hmm, don't remember ever seeing a torrent on play.thewitcher.com (the official site btw), just the executable for download.

Edit: Oh, it's official? Either way, their message is clear: they wanted people to enjoy their product, even those who did not support them. At the end of the day, that will turn a lot of people, especially those who torrented it because they could not afford it. I am sure a large number of them made a note to buy the game when it got a decent sale. And there's others who will want to support them even more on principle alone.

Mmm, that was the thoughtful comment an employee posted to the TPB I was referring to. Since CDPR was born amid a culture of high piracy in Poland they always try their best to be pro-consumer with the benefits they offer rather than being abrasive towards those that do. It's one of the reasons why they have so much good will as a company.

See what I mean, lmao. The best ones were from the live reaction thread when Ori won best art direction, some people got really mad.

LOL

TBH, i was happy that they gave the art direction to the least likely of the bunch. I really thought TW3 would get it.

Too bad BB didn't win anything. One of my fav games this year.

Well deserved. Goddamn I cannot wait for Cyberpunk.

Wrong...Bloodborne is the real GOTY.

People are so ignorant in gaming, most people still haven't discovered Demons Souls yet.

Even MGSV is better than W3 by a country mile.

the Souls series circle jerking will truly never end.

Do anyone remember the guy that wrote on gaf he knew people from CDPR, and said the game was crumbling and people were going to be surprised of the mess it was going to be?

Good times.

B-but-but Bish verified!™

Was it? I only remember him posting that and never coming back. Can someone even find the whole post, would be pretty funny to read it now. I remember it being super inflamatory.

Should have gone to Fallout 4

Nothing should have gone to Fallout nor Bethesda this year.

Im sure Todd Howard doesnt give a damn about not winning GOTY though (even if it broke his winning streak since Fallout 3), they will still sell more millions than the witcher 3 at the end of the day, but I really hope at least he reconsiders (even if its only a little) what he is doing with the team right now, and tries to put more effort in very lacking areas their game has.

They're good games, but you know why Bloodborne didn't win? It's pretty much the same damn game as the other Souls games, which they are now cranking out on a yearly basis.

And yes, I've played them all. The atmosphere and gameplay in them is uniformly excellent, but we're now to the point where I'm getting less and less excited with every iteration. Demon's Souls was, by far, the best game I played on my PS3. It's just not special at this point when they are iterating on that formula continuously.

Honestly I wouldn't have been surprised if that ridiculous crunch killed the development team on release, but it turned out okay.

Being an unbiased gamer and an expert I can absolutely confirm this is very well deserved.

It's great to see such a title get the top honor, didn't think it would actually happen.

Alternate Movement gave them that as far as Im concerned, without that I would be laughing at this.

As of how it is now, is realy easy to see why it got the GOTY.

Thanks.

Reading it again, I would be with you if he really only said crunch time is "killing" the team. But thats becuase I know, having worked on games, how beast can be the last months of crunch time. Nearly every game passes this dreaded phase.
The thing is, he literally says, they been treating the team badly since day 1, and PR (what PR? CDPR always uses the game devs to communicate, so this is batalantly false), has been lying from the start about trying to accomplish a game that didn't exist.

Then the game released and everything that they promised was in the game, and then some.
So he basically was telling a story from his ass.

Nothing he said was really wrong, though, and the game likely was a complete mess at the time. Remember that his ultimate message was wait for reviews, especially on console. It's not like those fears were unfounded considering the PS4 Witcher 3 threads we've had.

He is not talking about the quality of the PS4 port though, he says that the game DEVS (not PR as he says) had been showing, was a lie and didnt exist. Crunch time is horrible, I can assure you that, but most of the times is going to happen. Then they delivered everything they showed. Same world, same characters, same gameplay that was being showed from the start. The graphics were downgraded a bit, but becuase they had to, but everything else was improved.
And they probably delayed the game for this crunch times be more manageble for everyone in the team, not becuase the game was a complete mess that didnt exist. You dont accomplish what they did with some more months of work if the game was as bad as he said.

I think it is just more about Bloodborne and Souls games in general not being that accessible. Even if you over come the difficulty you need to put lot of hours trying to understand the story by reading the lore, learning about the world and talking to other people about it. Story in TW3 is much easier to consume in comparison and I would say this is a really big deal for many.

Good job on CDProjekt for getting the GOTY Award and Best Developer (or was it studio?) Award. Really need to get on to these Witcher games but my computer can't really run W2 which I would really like to play before jumping into W3.

A friend of mine is saying I can play W3 without having gone through the first two. I couldn't get into W1, and I didn't get past the beginning of W2 :/

Later versions of Witcher 2 were more forgiving with the Combat if you played it later.

As to witcher 3 you could theoretically play it without the other 2 the game does a decent job with characters and background but you won't know what you're missing with characters their personalities and their struggles as a lot of nuance and previous history will be lost on you.

I got up early today to play a bit of my recently bought Witcher 3. I just started, tutorial and like 20 minutes of the first area. My first "This is next gen!" game. Looks incredible and for my poor combat skills, the combat is really great, expands on The Witcher 2, which I played a bit.

The presentation, dialogue, really impressive, the world is beautiful and feels alive.

Well deserve, looking forward to continue my quest!!

as much as I would want Fallout 4 to win since Ive been hooked on it since it came out. witcher 3 is more than deserving. not only did it hook me like FO4 did. but a game that provided a plethora of deep and unique content for the price of one game in a day and age of gaming where alot of games are trying to nickel and dime you for how much content they offer.

I've played them all as well and completely agree. By the time Bloodborne came out the formula was starting to wear thin. I have zero excitement for Dark Souls III next year.

If this were a few years ago and we were talking about Dark Souls vs. the Witcher 2, I would be singing a different tune.

Is it a good idea to play Witcher 3 on PS4 with no knowledge of 1 and 2?

A friend of mine is saying I can play W3 without having gone through the first two. I couldn't get into W1, and I didn't get past the beginning of W2 :/

Yes. While the game will be fully appreciated by someone who has played all games and read the books it is designed for new comers. You can read a plot synopsis of the other two games to prepare yourself a little more and the game comes with its own in-game codex that explains a character's backstory and motivations.

So much Witcher 3 hate. I truly loved this game, flaws and all. The love triangle, the Ciri moments...the effing Bloody Baron quest line or the Werewolf side quest. Oh, and like 15 free dlc along with reasonably priced expansions. Yeah, much respect to CDR for putting out something like this and not trying to nickle and dime us along the way.

I still need to play this, but I recently got a bunch of other big RPG's and have a full time job now. Oh well, looking forward to playing it sometime next year.

I got the Platinum for Bloodborne.

It's not making my top five for GOTY.

Witcher 3 winning is great, but toppling Bloobourne in 2 important categories makes this GOTY sweeter. I didn't want to saying anything but posts like this deserve this type of response.

I've played the Souls games and I don't thing they're good. So W3 all the way.

A shame, BB is a much better game with gameplay that doesn't suck. Guess it wasn't mainstream enough

Nope, from the nature of a circle, it is perpetual and has no beginning or end. Personally, I blame all the mainstream losers who can only tolerate spoon-fed, hand-holding, easy-mode games for failing to recognize the transcendent majesty of Bloodborne, a game that can only be surpassed by Souls 3.

Glad to see a game enjoyed by so many get recognized for the effort CDPR obviously put into it. To win this award in a year full of great experiences is a huge compliment. Congrats to everyone involved.

Hahaha! The fact that you're so upset about your personal favorite not getting the adulation you feel it deserves is priceless. That you think your opinion carries more weight than any other is sad, while claiming those that don't share your taste in entertainment are ignorant is just pathetic. Congrats on being the poster child for temper tantrum gamers everywhere.
