Would you pay $1,000 USD for a PS6 with backwards compatibility for all previous consoles?

Would you buy it?

Whether it's software emulation or the actual hardware, you can insert a disc from any previous PS console, and it works out of the box without any sort of subscription to an online service or extra accessories. Would that justify a $1,000 USD price tag for you?

It would for me. The idea that you could play any previous gen game, along with possible upscaling from PSSR, sounds awesome. No more having to wait for a company to remaster, say, Legend of Dragoon. You could just pop in the disc and have some upscaling applied automatically (or not, if you turn it off).

Edit: Link to a post where Sony patented this idea for the PS5 6 years ago, AI upscaling and all.

That's just a marketeable PC

Nah, trust me as you get older you realize that the memories you have with most of those older games are better than the game itself. Move forward, focus on playing new games and making new memories.

No. Unless it can do some voodoo ai magic to make PS1 games look like they're native ps5 games i'm not interested. Emulation on PC has always been better than Sony's in house emulator.

Maybe, if everything is compatible. That means it HAS to have a disc drive though. Without one, it would make backwards compatibility useless on PS1-PS3 era.

I pay what they charge.

Better question, how much would you have to pay me to go back to PC gaming?

$7,500.00

Unless PS6 costs more than that, there you go.

Of course that amount may vary depending on my financial situation at the time of the purchase but in my blue era, it's $7,500.00.

Just like Vegeta had his redemption arc back in Namek, I hope you'll see the light some day as well.

PS6 might be 1k without that. Sounds like a bargain
PS6 will be $1000 anyway.
This is what I'm thinking.

They also patented some backwards compatibility software a while back that people thought would be used in the PS5:

I wonder if the PS6 is going to be $1,000 anyway, and if they've already done the R&D for this, it might be something they throw in to sweeten the pot.

This hath been the last generation of consoles for me.
Everybody I asked who said this was already on PC during the PS4 gen and just bought the Sony console for exclusives and games that have bad PC ports.

My question then would be, do you also have a gaming PC or are you just going to quit gaming altogether, or perhaps Steam deck/Switch 2 is your game? You aren't leaving gaming are you bro?

Depends on the power. If it can run almost all new games at native 4k @ 60fps minimum...then yes, easily on day one.

I'd love to be able to finally retire my ps3 and just combine my ps5 + ps3 into a single box under the TV (plus all the added features of PS6)

Maybe. Does it do loads of upgrades and have 100% compatible and had other great features that exceeded my pc? I'd consider that then.

I don't regret buying my PS5 but if the 6 is a repeat of this gen I don't think I'll buy it at launch or close to it (unless Sony fucks me over with a Bloodborne 60fps remaster/remake which is my kryptonite, they got me with Demon's Souls this gen).
The PS5 was cool because we got many 60fps patches for PS4 games, but the PS5 exclusives themselves have been pretty lackluster so far to me tbh considering we're 5 years into this gen already... and most already have 60fps modes which will make the PS6 pointless in that sense.

This coupled with all the retarded price increases and the end of physical copies looming over the horizon, I'm honestly not looking forward to the next geneneration at all as of now at least.

Sure, but I'm not holding my breath that Sony would be able to pull this off

It sounds like they've had the idea to do it for a while, according to the patent. Maybe they were just waiting for the right opportunity? Possibly with the AI upscaling technology.

I'm not quitting gaming, I'm just upgrading to the PC gamer lifestyle.

It's finally time I took off the training wheels and started gaming with the big boys. 😉

The Steam Deck is a must for me, yes, and I can uh .. *cough* figure out how to finagle some Switch 2 games without actually buying one. 😆
That said, the only Nintendo games I'd be interested in are the Xeno games. Or anything made by Monolith. So ..

Already owning all of em (Do yourself a favor and get a BC PS3 off of Ebay, PS5 and BC PS3 is the best fucking combo!!) but a PS6 with BC to all PS systems sounds like a really fun sku to own and shit, we already know the next gen systems will be expensive, I'd be down to spend a little more for some cool sku like that.

they might do it but don't expect this stuff to not be locked behind some premium tier monthly fee

In addition to the technology required, I guess I was also lamenting that I don't think that Sony could pull this off in a consumer-friendly way. If something like this comes about, it's almost certainly going to be yet another instance where they want you to re-buy all of these games digitally to make it work. Or go the Nintendo route and make people pay a monthly rental fee. 0% chance Sony would release a console where you can just insert old PS2 discs and start playing.
