Would you pay $1,000 USD for a PS6 with backwards compatibility for all previous consoles?

Would you buy it?

it'll be bc with ps4-ps5 in any case, contrary to what people like to believe, nobody cares about playing < ps3 games in 2030

I'd have to see what else it does. I'll buy a ps without looking into it too much because I've always been happy with the things, but at that price I would have to give it more scrutiny.

The additional 3 generations of back compat is nifty and all but not worth more than $100 to me and I suspect the vast majority. I have an upscaler set in a convenient place that I can quickly attach any old console so this isn't any significant boon to me.

With some type of PSSR AI upscaling I think there'd be a lot of interest in PS1-3 games, outside of the retro gaming sphere. The patent hinted at SD to HD conversion via AI upscaling.

Zero fucks about back comp.

Give me 1.000 dollars ps6 with all the bells and whistles that will carry it through the ps7 gen and Im in.

If I can plug in my original controllers, I'm in.

I want to use all the OG custom controllers.
Beatmania IIDX controller, NegCon, Pop'nMusic pad, DDR mats, Shinkansen controller, the works.

I don't know if you were old enough in 1990 and rich enough then to buy one of these. Your are certainly it's target audience. A pity there is never enough of you to support the hardware.

Lol at the fucking "PS6 is gonna be $1000, bro trust me" posts

Did Jim Ryan whisper that into your ear personally while you were polishing his shoes? It's wild how a hypothetical question about would you pay $1000 turned into half the forum suddenly becoming economic prophets

Sony has never priced a PlayStation base model above $600
Forum experts: "Yeah but THIS time it's different. Inflation. Magic. Backwards compatibility. Unicorn blood."

Yes, tech gets better. Yes, inflation exists. But mass-market consoles are not luxury items, they're priced to move units, build user base, and push subscriptions and digital sales

Stop parroting wild guesses as facts. You don't know. No one does. Until Sony says otherwise, all this "$1000 confirmed" nonsense is just noise

Nah. For $1000 I'd be fine with with Ps4 and Ps5 compatibility and just having the extra money go towards the best hardware possible for the price.
Ps1,2 and 3 compatibility isn't a big factor for me. Ps1 and 2 are fairly easy to emulate, and there's only a few games still trapped on ps3 that I care about, most of the good stuff from that gen is available on PC at good resolution and framerates (or got remasters on Ps4/5).

If it has
  • Native physical media compatibility
  • Permanent ownership of any given digital license of a game on future playstation console/services
  • All games (PS1,2,3,4,5, PSP and Vita) available to purchase on PSN
  • If I have original physical media, it will allow me to download the digital version
  • Hardware enabled visual enhancements (if applicable)
  • All peripheral (controller/ memory card/ PSVR, etc) natively compatible
  • Region free, universal access on all libraries in any given countries with specific language.

Then I may think of getting one, surely at half the price. Maybe at $700. Not likely at $1000.

In those price regions going for a console instead of a PC would be kinda.....

To be fair, 1000 dollars doesn't go very far for a PC these days. I am struggling to decide if my next upgrade would stay a laptop or go for a tower. The ability to move the laptop when i need to free up the guest room is beneficial, but it probably ADDS 1000 dollars to the hardware cost for the same power for a tower.

My Steam Deck can emulate PS1, PS2, PS3, and some PS4 games, and run PC versions of some PS5 games natively. Anyone who thinks running PS1-PS4 games on modern consoles is a magical feature worth hundreds of additional dollars has drunk Sony's cool-aid. This shit should be included free in the box with a wink from Crazy Ken.

People are willing to pay 1000 for a base ass console, not even necessary to bring up these hypothetical scenarios.
Gamers are not the brightest spenders.

Unfortunately no... my parents couldn't afford even the PS1, fortunately now I can afford pretty much whatever I wish.

But I can see a next gen with two skus one 599-699 and one 899-999 from the get go.. sharing pretty much everything aside from the gpu and no midgen refresh.

Probably paying that much for it anyway. Throwing in BC for all generations would just be the cherry on top.

It will be PS4-PS5 BC. I don't really care about BC for older stuff at this point, it can be emulated.

Either way, the PS6 is probably gonna cost $1000 anyway. At least here in Sweden, that's what a PS5 Pro already costs here.

$1000 US would be $1400 CDN.

I'll pay more for a good console, but not that much. I got a decent gaming laptop, so I'd just stick to that when right now I just use it for personal stuff and low spec PC gaming (I got it because I needed to replace my old one breaking down).

not happy with it but probably yes since i dont game on PC. but i expect a massive increase in power and performance.

That's what it's going to have to cost if you want an appreciable upgrade from the Pro. Unless Sony is willing to lose considerable money on every sale.

Only if it had absolutely 100% Backwards Compatibility, AI Upscaling/Graphical Enhancements, and Trophy Support for every single game. Throw in a PSP/Vita add-on drive while you're at it.
