You're not elite unless McDonald's is sponsoring your campaign.

Still, it could've been worse. I can't wait to see the Haze/White Castle meal deals.

Their fries. Their all beef patties. Their nectar.

I guess it's probably okay to have faith in the product line that generated the single largest one-day gross in entertainment history.

Fuck you and your factual logic!

Does anyone think Halo 3 can surpass Halo 2's opening day revenue of $125 million? That would be absolutely amazing.

I think its possible if a good portion of the sales are the $129.99 Legendary edition.

Hmm...so they're sticking with "Believe"?

I liked Finish the Fight better...personally.

Just think of it as a NeoGAF shout out and then it wont sound as bad.

And that drink is ungodly large...

I really think some people underestimate how popular Halo is because its another generic FPS to them...

I mean, there are lots of other popular games.
Well Halo 2 did set a videogame revenue record for first day sales I believe.

Ha. I don't even know where to begin responding to that.

Of course, the difference between a 50 dollar and a 60 dollar game will be evident. As far as hard sales, we shall see.

OK, now it's my turn to say Pokemon, Wii Sports, Madden, etc.

I'm not entirely serious. But the days when something like Mario or Tomb Raider could be the huge seller has kinda passed. Shooters remain the big thing, in the US especially.

Well, if half of the current pre-orders are Legendary, they will pass it day one. Scary thought.

Is that a challenge??

Yes it is. I will fill my Burger King cup with Beer, and you fill yours with Halo 3 Mountain Dew, and we will drink until one of us dies. I feel pretty safe.

Me either 1,000,002.

With 2 months left it could probably do 1.5 mil
Halo 3 is currently 6th, 18th and 69th (regular, limited, legenrary) in the video game sales ranking at Amazon, so I think the pre-orders for Halo 3 are still chugging along quite nicely.

The big question is now many $350 systems can it move. Who the hell knows, that's what I say. No hot franchise has really been in this situation before. NPD this fall will be interesting to say the least. 360 has attracted a ton of people who never would have touched an Xbox 1 at $350-$400, but it really seems that they've come close to maxing out the market at the high price points.

I imagine Halo 3 will sell less on day 1 than Halo 2 but the $10 mark up on the basic model and the rape time helmet should make it the winner in dollars.

You've won this round.....I'll see you in hell!

I am one of the suckers who pre-ordered the Legendary Edition. It'll be interesting to see how many of those get sold.

Filmed entertainment, which includes box office and DVD sales, took in $81.2 billion in revenue last year, dwarfing the haul for game sales, which grossed $31.6 billion in revenue last year.

How is this "dwarfing"? I call game business perfromance very impressive.

we have 4p co-op, so that guarantees 4x the sales, right?

Personally, I am staying grounded in the fact that the 360 is way less far into its lifespan than the Xbox was when H2 came out. I am not going to predict squat. Wait and see and roll with it.

I'm really wondering how the Lgendary edition is going to factor into this. It seems like it has the potential to throw a curve ball into normal predications.

I think I read that there's going to be 600,000 Legendary Editions made (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Those will probably be gone Day 1. That's about 78 million just from that alone, and the other two editions are $60 and $70 respectively. The userbase is smaller, but I think a lot of people grossly underestimate how many people will buy an Xbox for this. Every single person I know that owns or has owned a Xbox but doesn't have a 360 yet plans on buying one sometime in September for this game, and I'm talking about 10-12 people here, including very casual older gamers at work. This will be huuuuuuuuge.

How about we wait for 1) Confirmation from MS and 2) A few months to see if sales don't taper off.

I think that is one fact that a lot people are forgetting. Does anyone have any information on the install base of the Xbox when Halo 2 came out?

I don't think that 400,000 or 600,000 Legendary Eds can sell on day one. I think they'll be available weeks after release if you look around a bit. And I think they'll be selling at a discount on eBay. One of my dickhead Game Crazy clerks has preordered three with the intent of selling at least two on eBay. Like with PS3, there will probably be way more speculators than demand.

I actually do have H3 preordered, but I still say if you are spending over $100 on one game this fall, it should be Ace Combat 6 with the joystick.

The last time I think it was mentioned, 450,000+ were in production (from an interview with the folks in charge of manufacturing the helmet)

When we look at other “like” items out in the market place we have seen a number of high quality collectors icons created for movie titles by various studios. These have tended to be short or very limited production. Given the scale and magnitude of the Halo 3 launch and demand exceeding 450,00 units, it requires a whole different set of thinking in terms of materials, industrial design, and deco methods. To this end I feel that challenged everybody in the extended supply and manufacturing chain to bring their “A-game.”

I'm not sure if there are revised figures floating around out there, so if someone finds them, please correct me.

The 360 has extremely strong software sales even considering it's userbase.
I expect Halo 3 to surprise quite a few people and Bea Arthur.

I agree. Preorders right now are at 1 million, and the number seems to be going up rapidly. I think preorders by Sept 25th will be over 1.5 million.
