Xbox One sells one million+ (sell through to consumers) in all territories worldwide

"GAF's biggest wanker"
And all that FUD about yield problems, if you can deliver 1 million+ consoles to retail on day 1, that's not yield problems.
But they've been manufacturing since midsummer by their own accounts and they're the ones that backed off their original release plans by 8 territories. It's not cut and dry just because 1 million is a big number. How long did it really take to get to that number. How quickly can they resupply? Etc.

I hope all the "mobile is the future" people are eating their tablet crow. This news makes me happy despite being in the Anti-Xbone crowd.

When will get the real number? If this is only preorders then we should expect a lot more units sold.

We won't hear US numbers until probably November NPD. I doubt Microsoft will mention worldwide numbers again past PS4's worldwide launch until an investor's hearing.

So Microsoft has sold 1 Million consoles day one, world wide.
Sony has sold 1 Million consoles day one, in NA alone.

While I think that Sony clearly won the day one game, it's obvious the biggest winner is the console industry as a whole. It's apparent that people don't just want mobile games, they want a space to game and that is their living room.

A little too early to start saying this. Who buys consoles Day 1 isn't the mobile games market, it's the hardcore crowd that were eager for a new plastic toy to replace a moribund last-gen console. The big question of the industry changes is the casual market not the hardcore crowd.

The test will begin next year when supply meets demand and the casual market starts buying (or not) this consoles.

strange, i thought ps4 preorders was beating xbone 4 to 1 according to famous mortimer or thuway or something
4:1 was mainland Europe - 2:1 ww I think. I think we'll now for sure after next Friday. I'm pretty confident ps4 will outsell Xbox one at least 2:1 in November ww...

You do realize that ps4 still needs to launch in Eroupe and Japan? Xbox will get slaughtered there. Expect atleast 1.5 million in 24 hours next week. Thats 2.5 million vs 1 million day one sales. Im not even including japan.

Gotta wonder what the PS4's day one number would have been if other places besides North America got it on the same day.

Probably exactly the same. No way they would have been able to send over a million consoles to NA alone while launching in multiple territories. If they could they probably would have.

Bone hasn't sold 1m units in NA. This is a 13 country figure.

Yes I know that. But even if it hasn't based on these stats, the day isn't over yet in NA. The Xbox One hasn't been out for more than 24 hours in NA.

There are people (here) in North America getting Xbox Ones as we speak.

I can't believe people are saying that its not impressive. It's a great launch, which was also limited by supply(as was the ps4). Yes the ps4 sold more in only 2 countries, but its an impressive launch nonetheless.

Weird they didn't say "in history" or "console history". Did they ship less than Sony's sold through 24hr number?

Next week is gonna be interesting. Gonna be black Friday in the us, and a huge launch for Sony in multiple continents. I'm expecting them to move as much units as they can get on shelves. 1.5M+ worldwide next week.

Where did MS say that?

It has to be, MS can't get the real number of units sold this fast.

Yes, they pretty much can. They know their shipments, they'll know the preorders at their retail partners. This isn't "rocket surgery."

And again, lots of people trying to make comparisons to what Sony did. Why? This is about supply. Demand is a relative non-factor until units are sitting in large quantities on shelves. (If you want to credit Sony, give them credit for the ability to manufacturer a massive quantity of these things.)

Personally, I think Sony is going to clean Microsoft's clock, but that's not going to be evident until next year unless Microsoft has a lackluster December like Wii U in its second month, but I do not anticipate that.

They should have kept quiet if they didn't sell > 1M in the US alone. Sony did 1M on Microsoft's home turf. It's going to be a bigger bloodbath than Ryse worldwide.

This post and all the ones like it make ZERO sense.

Both companies have stated they have pretty much sold all their launch allocations. The numbers are supply-constrained.

But war never changes, so please, carry on.

I have a hard time believing this from the company that still says plugging your system into the internet will make it 4x more powerful. At $500 for weaker hardware and all the negative press I just can't imagine that many people wanting one. It's also so early how could they know alreadey?

Sony launch strategy seems much better, by releasing at different dates they are able to have much more units available, focus their marketing effort and also generate more hype with impressive sales numbers.

I went to one of the biggest shopping malls in Brasil to see if I would find and Xbox One and I couldn't find anything, not even games being sold, all I saw was a sing saying it released today, seems like it all went unnoticed here...

I think its going to be a bloodbath in Europe, i feel kinda bad having been a xbox fan for most of last gen but they brought it on themselves.

So? At the end of the day very few publishers are going to make a third-party exclusive, abs those that do will base it on moneyhatting. As long as the Xbox One keeps this pace, third-party games will be on both platforms.

Never got why people treat this like supporting sports teams.

The 1m figure for Sony is only 24 hours as well.

There is no way they are getting real time data from US stores. This is the shipped figure and the assumption of a complete sell out.

I'm not saying it's a bad figure, it's a good start, but I don't think it is comparable to the PS4 figure of 1m in two countries.

I'm surprised they got 1 million units ready for launch

I wonder how many Sony has queued up for Europe

For the UK alone I bet they're looking to get 250k-400k in the sales channels day one. Across Europe, probably looking at more than a million, they've given themselves two further weeks to prepare.

Sony also used "Playstation history" when they announced theirs. MS probably just doesn't know Sony's exact numbers, so they didn't make a claim against it.

Doesn't Sold-Through mean shipped? Not actually sold to customers?

If it's shipped that's horrible... Why hide behind it.

If not that's crazy. Plenty of Xbox One's still available here. They must have shipped a ton. So much for those reports about Microsoft having problems with the supply chain. Super grats to Microsoft.

Either way I'm glad Next Gen is off to a good start!

Tell that to the 200 people that picked up the console from my best buy thursday night.

And they know what they shipped. They know what was preordered. The estimate is most likely very very close to exact.

You mean like the Tales series? I guess we'll see how much your statement holds true in the future if the ps4 achieves and maintains a 2:1 lead ww for a prolonged period of time...

wait, everyone quoting me still believes the 4 to 1 number or soemthing?

Before the 180, yes. But (other) people have short memories.
MS is still definitely going to get taken out to the woodshed in Europe.

Sold-in is shipped to retail. Sold-through is sold to customers.

With the UK report coming on Monday it will be interesting to see how much they shipped here (again, assuming a sell out). We should be able to get a good picture of their day one shipments to the US on that basis.

seriously, two million units sold in one week (not even black Friday!!!) at launch prices is very very fucking good.

I don't think any console sold a mil+ in their launch month before this Gen

Did you even try to google what sold through meant before you typed this or do you just downplay everything MS does.

People need to chill. A million sold in one country or 13 doesn't matter. 1 million is 1 million. MS simply allocated to a larger variety of countries and even with that you can bet a large chunk is NA.

Supply has always been a factor in the early months traditionally so we will see how this gen plays out in that regard but the silliness is getting to absurd levels people already claiming PS4 will outsell the PS2 lifetime etc.

consoles have traditionally been much more exotic to produce and as such far less produced. Now that they are becoming closer and closer to a traditional computer production gets easier. The only thing that stopped the Wii from selling millions in its first month was inventory

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. I love reading how people are enjoying the system.

As for the numbers, as people have said it's great for the industry (after all the reports of the "death" of consoles) to see the sheer amount of interest and excitement with consumers and the media over this. It's really amazing.

Sony chose a different path for launch, so an apples-to-apples comparison is impossible. We had X number of units to sell and we chose to launch in all our launch territories. Sony had X number and chose to focus on North America. Neither was better than the other.

In this circumstance, comparing our US number vs. their US number would be like comparing our UK number to their UK number. They don't have any in the UK yet, so it's not a fair comparison.

Both consoles I think will be hard to get through the holidays.

And I love how "yield issues" is still a thing. What was the precise number we needed to make for that to go away? There were no yield issues.

If you like it or not, the Xbox still has a ton of fans despite what happened. They are the people, the hardcore people, who rushed out today to buy one or had them on pre-order. Either way, they dedicately wanted an Xbox. The question is if the sales can keep up with Sony in the upcoming weeks and months once all the die-hard Xbox fans got their console.

With a $100 price difference (and more powah), the PS4 is more of an impulse buy at store shelves than the One for the brand-neutral Average Joe and very well might be able to significantly increase its lead going forward.

Well, looks like many ppl are all in for the next gen.

I plan on keeping my PS3 and 360 as collectors items. Still have a PS2 and orig Xbox.

.

Exactly. Look at the RRoD issues with the 360, it didnt hurt 360 sales. One guy said he went thru 24 RRoD issues.....that says it all.
