Xbox the voice of the player "i don't miss the disc at all" "i love the new storage and fresh look" "xbox knows me really well"

I mean when 70% of your hardware sales are for the digital only version and the disc version struggles to ever put up decent software sales...does anyone here even actually buy Xbox games physically?
I haven't even bought discs for Playstation in years, but an all-digital future is bad.

This is so cringy... but I'm surprised they'll actually get with the times and make a controller with a rechargeable battery out of the box... it only took them what, 17 years?
For cringe nothing will EVER top the original Xbox launch and the revelation that "the kidz" were now using the term "Xbox" instead of "cool"…

Oof. I'm thinking about all of the placeholder copy I've written for WIP marketing/internal presentations like this and shudder to think if that stuff ever got leaked. 😬

This leak is the cringe that keeps on giving.

This is "how we envision people thinking about our brand if we manage it right" kind of thing.

It's so corporate and limp-dicked

Updated with source of these quotes.
You joke but the first 2 reads like something Riky would say.
Shit no one will ever say. Lmao.
Tell me this does not read like this.

Great looking redesign and more than happy to sacrifice the drive I've never used for double the storage, makes more sense for Gamepass and the 30 million plus customers, always said Starfield would push them over that figure.
These games on top of the announces line up is just incredible, going way past the 360 era now, greatest first party line up in history.
Good to see that we have next gen in the pipeline too, always thought the naysayers were wrong again.

Sounds about right from a general perspective and a company trying to spin things positively their way.

Most people are digital and don't miss disc
Ssd way greater than hdd
And the new I guess is better feels the same to me.

Couldn't agree more, was just stating the facts and observations. MS practically encourages anti-physical with Gamepass (which everyone praises) so none of this should come as a surprise

Don't forget Mattrick's comment post-Xbox One reveal:
"it was just too soon"

Their original vision with Xbox One is still alive, that much is apparant by now.

So... Streaming games, wich is a big part of MS strategy has become sustainable?
For what I know video streaming is quite energy draining and gaming streaming is A LOT more energetic expensive.
And one of the best way to reduce that consumption is having games installed locally, maybe with a backup device like.... a disk?

I need more informations from our beloved Phil and if he can explain them without all that pre baked phrases and gestures I would be very glad

I've been an Xbox supporter since the original Xbox. I was one of the people on the Xbox Live beta. I think the Xbox Series X is an awesome console despite all the weird hate it gets on here. But Microsoft needs to drop all the woke $#!+. They put woke messages on my home screen, put woke $#!+ in their games, and now with the "gamers" being all excited about "sustainability". Give me a break.

I don't care what anyone believes about political or social issues. Debate those things in other forums. Keep it the hell out of gaming! If Microsoft really wants to go down that route, they can die.

Personas are an effective tool for crafting Customer Experience Journeys and ultimately setting a target for the optimal experience you want to deliver.

But they are ALWAYS cringe, almost always generated by an overworked strategist. Unless they're from actual testimonials, it's all fan fiction and positive spin for brands to use to understand their audience better because the people at the top don't play games and don't understand what gamers want. But it's a guess. And they're often used to reassure features, like the controller.

If you only knew how many ways they've tried to define you and your habits.

Exactly and the minute their whole brand identity became "Gamepass" it was apparent to me that this is the future they were headed to.

For example, for everyone here that has played Starfield, how many have actually bought a physical copy of it?

Imagine this:

With them talking about how they basically want to slowly bleed out Nintendo and do a hostile takeover, it shows how sneaky they are in the long run.

Now apply that logic to GamePass, which cannibalizes game-sales, hurting (smaller) devs in the long run, easy prey to take over at the right time and put them under their banner, slowly buying up as much as they can.

That would be the most hostile and cancerous business practice in the industry and tbh, I can easily see them do it.

Its like you guys have never worked an office job.

"Ok.. lets imagine the future state of the console. What do we WANT our customers to say about the features??"

This is all corporate bullshit speak that happens at every fucking office job.

Honestly at this point, I'm not putting anything past MS. All of these companies are shady as hell but MS actually has the money to be as shady and scummy (behind the scenes) as they want.

Either way Gamepass is definitely a major key to whatever it is they are ultimately trying to pull off

yeah except MS pays losers to regurgitate these lines on social media/youtube/whatever.

it's like being at a Honda dealership and there's some guy walking around loudly yelling, "wow! i love this new steering wheel. Honda really understands me!"

other companies do it too of course, but the way MS does it is laughably conspicuous.

Reminder. This website exists and most of ps5/ps4 games are actually on the disc and fully playable offline

And guess who can beat (and did that) Radahn 1.0? I can.

"With game pass, I save a ton of money on games."

"I don't like 3rd person cenematic games."

"With game pass, I buy more games than ever!"

"Playstation? never heard of it."

"I love how xbox creates context for the xbox community."

"I can't wait for hellblade!"

"I'd cut my big toe off for haptics and gyro!"

"I love how xbox creates context for other communities."

"Quick resume is the best game!"

You just know that there was a slide pre-2014 with the phrase "I don't miss offline gaming" that was shown to executives

The rest is history

That's how they get some of the favoritism on a lot of platforms. Look at era. example: After the supreme court abortion decision in the states, a letter came out that was sent to all employees from Jim Ryan. In it, was a part asking people to please not go getting into fights or harass each other over this at work. Era took that pretty badly, and sony lost more social credit.

These type of things are made all the time, but with varying degrees of sanity. I've seen one with a mock letter from Bill Gates stating how amazing the product was and that he was willing to fund it's development. This was made by a man who was losing his marbles. I guess that's just a funny story because it's not all that common to have an upper management person going completely bonkers before your eyes lol. I wonder what happened to that poor guy once in awhile.

Anyway this is ms. We know what they do. When they "want their customers to say" this, it means "this is what we will have them fans say". I work on something and I could send a bunch of fake quotes to marketing and they would not bat an eye because yes, it's pretty normal. But I would be doing it to pad my homework, not to propose a set of talking points meant to be repeated enough to drown out everything else. So no, not everyone does quite what they are doing here. Companies that have their fingers in IT and mass amounts of user data can do these manipulations on a larger scale, of course.

Well I don't know what their plans are or what numbers they've got, but I know that they've got the numbers. Just like their SpyOS Windows 11, Xbox OS (or whatever it's called these days) records basically ALL of your usage data / interactions with the system. Which means they know exactly, a) who of their users has a disc drive b) how often this portion of their userbase actually makes use of said drive. I don't think they'd push this shit if they'd know that, say 80% of these users use discs on a regular basis still.

Yeah; haptics and an accelerometer (useless eh ;)? Still, no gyroscope? Maybe it is just how they explained it) plus rechargeable batteries (which were the devil incarnate right?).

75% of their users does not have a drive (they seem to have kept XSx production far more limited too). So…

My comments for the marketing slides:
"I like my consoles to basically be a PlayStation 2 - absolutely minimal fuckery between me and my games, with the ability to play optical media."
"Trillion dollar companies aren't my friends; give me what I want for the cheapest price or fuck off."
"Why are you in my house asking me questions about a console I already bought? I'm calling the Police!"

I don't want a console to know me, personalize to me and offer me tailored 'suggestions'. I want important shit like to be able to play the console manufacture's entire library via COMPLETE back compat. (Xbox-360-One or PS1-2-3).
But don't you know it's made from recycled materials?

Yeah I've bad this thread to promote doesitplay sure on Reddit and got downvoted a lot. People are stupid af

I don't trust Microsoft one bit. As a company, they've always been like this. Vendor lock-in and platform control is their game, and they play it well. Just look at Xbox's history and you'll see Microsoft shows their true intent every so often. XBone always-online DRM, the Xbox Live Gold price double attempt, digital-only games. All completely outrageous anti-consumer moves that Microsoft seemingly can't wait to unleash, and only changes their tune once they get immense backlash from the consumer base.

Thing is, they keep on trying again and again to get people to accept these changes. They are playing the long game of attrition and hoping we drop our guard. I for one am not budging.

How do executives who see these slides not just instantly throw up? They must have some impressive cringe resistance.

Yay for anti consumer built in battery that lasts less and can't be replaced with common AA rechargables… well at least there will supposedly be battery door so it can be replaced at all
Yeah I can never understand why some people suddenly hate the concept of batteries you can easily replace. That used to be the standard on portable and handheld electronics until Apple started to popularize the "clean" design that locks batteries away. I really miss having good modular design on electronics.

Yeah. Xbox controller already had perfect solution. You could use aa, rechargables or buy battery pack kit.

Yup, I have a bunch of rechargeable AA batteries I bought off Amazon for cheap, they're good for loads of electronics like remotes and old handhelds, and it only takes a few seconds for me to swap them out so I can continue to use the same device without having to plug it in.

One of the most annoying thing about so many modern electronics IMO is how locked away everything is. Thing is, this is done purposely to make products basically disposable so consumers will just go out and buy another product to replace them. Same deal with anything else they make totally unfriendly for user servicing.
