I felt like a little beast at the gym today. The only thing I am thinking at the moment is that when I squat, my knees keep very interesting crunchy noises. Is this normal? My physiotherapist just checked my form and went it through till he was satisfied with it and I do think I got it so there shouldn't be any problems with it (he wont' let me have hips on parallel or under that though).

Damn Sadetar!! Looks like a different person. Keep fighting the good fight!
Thank you! I feel like a whole different person as well. :D

A bit under half a year can really do miracles!

Looks like you have lost a lot of weight. Nice work.
I have managed to shred some weight, yes. ^_^ This is still a work in progress though. Can't wait to see the results after a year or two.

This place keeps the motivation up and makes me want to achieve more and more.

Sadetar, those glasses look great! Also, you can totally see how much weight you've lost from your face alone :)

Also, you will understand me when I say...I got a new sports bra and it is not supportive enough and running = ow... :'(

Will only wear this one during weights circuit, not for a cardio work out.
Yay! I will most likely get those glasses then. :p Also I think that my face quite quickly responds to good or bad diet and working out. But yes, feels good to see at least some results! I have missed my cheeckbones (even though it is a pain to find glasses that would fit them since they are quite prominent and high).

I feel you there - sucks to buy clothes that end up being either the wrong size or for wrong purpose! (Even if I can jump and run without a bra at all and still feel fine. I bought a sport bra because Zoe an Cooper in here told me to).

Dang looking good!!!!
^_^ Thank you! Feels good as well.

I'm taking my pic for the summer cut thread tomorrow at the beach in Tahoe. After that I will let loose a little. I don't want to be rude to America!
I went to gym normally, but ended up having a cinnamon roll (my colleague bought me one), a piece of cake (my neighbour decided to come to my door to give me a piece since I missed the party) and cashews (since I thought I am not eating anything special and wanted something).

I ended up celebrating as well it seems. I don't remember a cheat day like this.
Haven't taken any full body shots in months though so I think I will post my part to that thread later on and not straight after this feast... or will you just look at me badly if I post the same face pics and later on full body shots? :p

Sedetar: I'll consider taking a day off mid week. That's good advice. Thanks.
You are very welcome. Hopefully that and sleeping a bit more will do the trick!

I'm not even close to looking cut although my veins are out in full force which is great but hard to see with a tan. Legs are fucking massive now and my ghetto ass is unmatched. I need size 38+ waist to get around dat ass.
Your legs and ass have always been phenomenal. (Even if I still like your chest perhaps a bit more. Hard to decide.)

Also today a lad at work commented my legs saying that "they are carved out of wood". I wasn't really sure what it meant and I might have taken it in a wrong way.

Wow, great transformation Sadetar, looking great, keep it up! :D
Thank you for your sweet words kitty! I am planning to be a good girl also in the future. :p

Wow, remarkable results Sadetar! I see why you're eager for Cooter's cut thread to appear. :)
That is a pleasure to hear. Thank you!

And well I could have posted those face shots to there as well I assume (I don't know will I re-post them, perhaps not since all of you have seem them already). :D

I haven't taken any full body shots in quite some time though so I am most likely not going to post any comparison photos to there in a while (when I am posting I would really like to have some photos that would actually show some real changes).

At the moment I am thinking I should have taken more than two photos in the beginning for comparison. None of my jackets fit anymore and it would have been neat to show them when they were still a bit too small but I have no photos of them from those times.

huge difference! gj!!
Thanks sweetie pie! :D

Hahha, I need to work out to fit in better in here. :p At least I have done more than just talked about it!

Great progress.
Coming from your mouth if feels extra special. (It honestly does.) <3

So it's finally possible to buy Quest bars here in Norway, from a big gym equipment/nutrition-site. Yay! But they cost almost exactly twice as much as in the US. Can't be worth it, can it?
One word: iHerb.

Buy them online. If you want to be extra adorable and are first timer in there I can give you a discount code that will give me a discount as well depending how much you buy.

Yeah this sounds better actually.

Like said GOMAD means drinking a ton of milk a day. It's also a very very easy way to get fucking fat very quickly unless you are some starving high school kid who's naturally lean. Since you've been losing weight I guess that's not you. So don't do it. You can drink some milk of course but don't do full on GOMAD. But be prepared to eat more than what you're eating now. But as a beginner you can get away with less calories while lifting for a while and will probably recomp a bit even.

Impossible to say how much carbs is too much. It depends. If you're happy with your weight loss then it's fine. But normally carbs are the ones you should decrease on a diet. Never decrease protein (increase even) and fat is more important than carbs for your body. Your food choices look pretty ok to me.

I don't do HIIT so can't help you there but you can find that stuff on google easy.

Buy the book (ebook is cheap), study the lifts, practice them (and mobility if needed). You still have a lot of time to lose fat before so make the most of it so you don't have to worry about being fat in September.

Alright man, thanks for the advice

What's your current height, weight, BF% and maintenance calories? And do you track what you eat?

5'8.5", ~167 lbs. I'm not sure what my BF% is, and I think maintenance calories are around 2000 give or take a couple hundred. I track what I eat sometimes, but not always. It's hard to do it when I'm at school because the dining hall doesn't give you nutrition info, but I guess that's not relevant since I'm at home now.

Why oh why oh why can't the 4th of July gym crowd be the every day gym crowd? Minus the creepy dude standing over me watching the hot dog eating contest while I do DB presses.

It was pretty much dead at 5pm, so amazing.

Also ground beef and brown rice is not very tasty.

24hr fitness was packed today when I went at 9am. Everybody wanted to get that pump before fireworks smh

Seriously. Went to the gym today at 5:45pm (closes at 7pm due to 4th) and it was a ghost town. Got in and out in 45 minutes, throwing weight around with a purpose, no bullshit. It was great.

Your silly day shouldn't affect me all the way in Finland at all, but even my gym was silent like a cemetary. Normally it is totally packed on Friday evenings (full of older ladies at that time) but today there was only one lost soul besides me at 7 pm.

Loved it.

i worked at the gym today from 10-6. fucking busy as hell until 330, then maybe 20 people inside. everyone else was at the pool. so glad i'm not closing though, there are probably 3 right now.

Fitness question:

I'm 6'2", 165lbs. I have a tiny bit of belly fat but other than that I'm pretty skinny. However, I want to get that glorious six pack and ripping pecks that are so sought after.
What can I do from home that'll help me with this goal?

My 3 requirements:
I will not get a gym membership, it's not in the budget and I don't want to take anything away to put it there.
I like Ski (a Mello Yello type soda) a LOT and don't want to completely give it up, though I won't object to cutting down on it.
I do not have much space so I can't get any big workout equipment.

Other advantages though - I do have a lot of great places to run, and have a fenced in backyard.

Any help would be great!

Let me get this straight. You want abs and a developed chest but you are unwilling to give up soda and don't have means to put sufficient stress on that chest. Is that an accurate summary? I hate to be the bearer of bad news but that routine will fail you 99.99% of the time. I would say 100 but who am I to speak in certainties?

Bottom line, you need to eat very well and lift weights very hard to get the body you covet. Check out the OP for a good place to start. Gonna have to bite the bullet and join a gym if you're serious. Just a gentle warning.

Sucks but I've had to lay off all upper body work this work due to a minor strain in my weaker left bicep and arm.

Today I was gonna bench but not taking the risk.

Guess its just squats this week.

Splendid!
Hopefully you don't mind if I am going to get a head start. I will join that thread definitely when I have something more to show, but now I just want to share this with you darlings straight away!
I am trying to find new glasses so I have run through millions (read: nine) stores to find the right ones for me. This means I have taken numerous photos of my face (pilates day though so no make up and no filters since I don't master that kind of magic tricks yet. Halp!).
I might regret sharing the most horrid photo of me ever taken online, but hopefully you can still see what I am seeing. (Not a fair comparison really, since the photos have been taken from different angles, in different light and so forth, but still.)
The thing just is, that now when I actually went through the photos of different frames, I realized that yes, there is a change compared to what I looked like earlier this year!
Them noob gainz. <3
Be gentle, I am happy. ^_^
Oh and also what you think of the glasses on the right? I am still thinking will I buy those or not.
Good job!

Got an extra rep of of 315 on DL today, went to attempt 335 and got an immediate burst of orthostatic hypotension and thought better of it. Slowly but surely working back up. I'll be happy to be getting 335x3 at the end of my cut quite honestly.

In other news there was a female bodybuilder in the gym talking to some dude about how she works legs and arms on the same day so she can maximize muscle confusion lul

So you're telling me there's no way at all I can get a good chest without joining a gym? I even said I'd cut back on Ski - I won't completely cut it out, but I'll go down to twice a week or so. But to say that there's no way to get a good looking body without a gym is coming off a tad elitist. Are there no resistance workouts I could do? Handstand pushups? Looking for any advice here, not just "no you can't do it."
I don't even need a bodybuilder's body - just looking for a visible 6 pack and some definition in my pecks.

He gave you the best advice possible based on your defined results criteria. It's not an opinion. An opinion can be elitist, the facts are just the facts, and that's all he gave you.

That is a bodybuilder's body by definition? Don't take it personal. You should appreciate the honesty if anything. Better than living a lie.

Bodyweight fitness is certainly an option, but it will only get you so far. Resistance training, if you mean like bowflex and bands and stuff, is mostly bunk and useless when not used as a supplement to real resistance/weight training.

In general, if you want to get definition without having to go to the gym, it's possible, but much more difficult.

You're going to have to lift weights heavier than your bodyweight equivalent for your chest to see real gains.

You should dump the cocaine - that shit will only set you back.

Yes it is possible to get in shape with bodyweight exercises, but a gym makes it much easier.

Do convict conditioning if you are really set on working out at home. If you commit to it and finish all the progressions, you will get seriously strong, but gyms are everywhere these days, and you might as well go to one if you have that level of dedication. I'd say it's a little bit easier.

But to be honest, calisthenics are a very valid school of training, and you can definitely become very strong outside of the gym.

Question - when I do bicep curls why do my forearms usually give out first? My forearms don't hurt like I'm in pain. Maybe it's my form? I'm thought maybe I'm lifting too heavy for myself but I'm curling 25lbs dumbbells and when my forearms give out my biceps still feel like they can do extra reps

I picked up the Greyskull book since I'm planning on switching to that program when I get down to my target weight. Johnny Pain, while not calling it out by name, essentially calls the Rippetoe low bar form completely wrong even saying you should never use a thumbless grip. I'm sticking with the Rippetoe form but that was really surprising to see.

This is all wonderful - thank you so much! I can actually do over half of those workouts in the video from home. I have a bar on an overhanging shelving unit I build that I can use for a good deal of them.

As another note, outside of Ski, I eat/drink very healthy. My normal calorie amount is only around 1800/day, if that, and I track all of my fats, carbs, proteins, and fibers (for digestion things). On days that I drink a can of Ski, I always compensate elsewhere in my sugar intake. I'm still a pretty skinny guy.

Thank you again for the great reply - it's exactly what I'm looking for and didn't come off as if I'm inferior to you. I know it's technically easier to go to the gym, but I'm very adamantly against paying money to workout, when I know it's possible to do it for free at home or in a park. If I can't get a perfect body, I'm more than OK with a solidly toned one.

You can definitely gain a good deal of strength and get that definition you're looking for strictly through calisthenics. It will never make you 'huge,' obviously, and you're going to hit limitations when it comes to strength, but it sounds like that won't particularly bother you.

It does take a lot of work and dedication, though--perhaps even more than training with weights. It's only understandable that people would question your determination when you start your quest by outlining conditions, some of which are directly counteractive to your goals. You really do need to have a "do what it takes" attitude to get anywhere meaningful.

1800 cals a day sounds quite little for a lad who is working out and trying to built up muscle mass. I know you aren't trying to be a total beast, but I would suggest you to eat at least a bit more the days you are working out. I am not sure how tall you are and so forth you are, but you might want to increase in general a bit. Also make sure you get enough protein.

Good luck kitty! :D

Great advice, thanks! I'll try to add more protein to my diet, and maybe a few-hundred extra calories. I'm 6'2" and 165lbs btw.

Oh please. How did I make you feel inferior? You asked so I answered. Push ups won't give you a developed chest. Abs are diet oriented. Soda will not help but it is possible. Excuse me if I didn't tell you what you wanted to hear. I wasn't even fully convinced I wasn't being trolled to tell you the truth. Red flags go up when someone only cares about working on 2 muscles.

Lol at coming off as inferior. You came in talking about how you won't get a membership nor give up soda and only care about abs and chest. And now you are OK with a solidly toned body.

Cmon man.

Chill out guys, I just wanted some help, not some "long deserved reality check." For those that gave me a constructive answer - thank you kindly; you the real mvp. Those that didn't, I'm sorry for offending you.

You are very welcome.

Nice height, but that means that 1800 cals is definitely too low for you when you are working out. Have you read the OP? In there you can find information about your maintainance calories and how much extra you need to actually gain muscles.

I know that the sweeties in here might come out as bit hard and harsh once in a while, but they are seriously always looking for your best interest. Tough love.

I figured I'd throw up a BBQ pic from this year. It's boring compared to the grill arm pic last year but it was a good time. My grandma went light this year. No ribs or steaks. Just good old fashion cheeseburgers and hot dogs.

Then I saw Imm0rt4ls badass Batman pic and I happened to be wearing mine too so I copied. Imm0rt4l's smaller lighter brother checking in!

Hahahha, I loved this post!

Great pics cutie pie! :D (Also made me hungry.)

Oh and what is Fitocracy? I have no idea what it is in general, what you can do in there and what is the group for that is mentioned in the OP... :p

Chatting to some girl at a barbeque tonight... Her boyfriend couldn't be there, apparently he'd injured his neck... doing cross fit.

Go figure.
