TLOU Remastered: 30 fps option gives better shadow quality [Up: Comparison GIF in OP]

Next-gen consoles, Ladies and Gents...

And people actually think the PS4 can run this at 1080p 60fps

Like i said before, its one thing to shoehorn a ps3 code to run on ps4 and another to make something for ps4 from scratch.

Exactly. So why can't it have shadow resolutions higher than 1024...

I do, yes. They will hold back technical innovation in games for years, just like the PS3 and 360 did.

What on earth are you talking about? The industry progresses at a pace dictated by what consumers are willing to pay for. Surely you should be pointing to shit developers like Crytek whom displayed that shelling bucket loads for high end systems just to play a shit game simply isn't appealing when at the time you could have got a cheap 360 and the infinitely better Halo 3; these are the people holding back technical innovation.

But it's not a tech demo, UC4's been in development for nearly three years. It's obviously playable.
I think if they had some show able gameplay they would have put a tiny bit of that in like they did with the uc3 trailer.

Halo 3 was in development for about 2 years when they revealed it and released a year after that, and still that teaser just ended up being a tech demo. Again, not saying just because bungie did it ND will too, I just think it's a possibility
What was the best looking launch year PS2 game? Because MGS2 completely outclassed everything else, and ran at 60.
Not that familiar with the ps2 launch window games, but yeah, fair enough.

The continued skepticism surrounding Uncharted 4 is funny watch. Doubting one of the worlds elite dev teams who've proven for a long time they're capable of amazing things. But now they're gonna put their integrity on the line and lie to people. Sounds likely!

It doesn't always work like that. Scalebound was playable before E3 and they only showed a CG trailer.

I think you're gonna see ND play things a little close to the chest this generation. look at the slow release of media for TLOU:R for example

None of those run at 60 fps though. That's still the most doubtful part about the uc4 demo to me.
Some of them either run at 60fps with some dips or at least can hit 60fps at times. And with time, devs would quite likely be able to develop games of similar or even bettere visual fidelity @ 60fps, if they so decide and don't go for 30fps with even more treat for the eyes.

Some people are probably still salty over early PS3 smoke and mirrors.

Times changes a lot since then , for PS4 the trailers and pics Sony show off for a game end up being how the game looks with less AA i would say .

That's not how marketing works.

You won't see UC4 gameplay till next June.

Maybe there will be hope and will get one end of the year at that show can't remember what it name.

This excites me. As a former PC gamer, I like options. I wonder if we will see this gen giving us more options similar to setting up a PC game.

Not sure what exactly is going down in this thread, but I for one am stoked for the ability to play in 60fps. When I have the game running on my PS4 to my beautiful plasma, I'll decide whether the 30fps boost to shadows (and maybe other effects, who knows?) is worth turning on the 30fps lock. Options are good people, we've been asking for these sorts of things on consoles for generations, and when we get it we still complain? Anyone who thinks this game won't be visually stunning is probably misleading themselves, it's going to be a great experience whether you've got it locked at at 30fps, or unlocked aiming for 60fps.

It always surprises me how black and white some peoples thinking is. How can anyone doubt a game that is being made with the PS4 in mind from the ground-up, based off a remaster of a game that was optimized heavily for the PS3's architecture, just because because of some blocky shadowing? The dev process for UC4 will me much easier than it was for TLOUR.

C'mon, people.....

In terms of the shadows, though....I couldn't give two shits if the shadows were bright pink or non-existent, I'm not giving up 60fps for anything. Sweet smooth 60fps.

I hope so. Unfortunately, we're still at the stage where people will hate on graphical options for no more reason than it's a PC thing so it's automatically terrible somehow.

I don't understand reactions of some people here. 30 fps will always use less resources, thus having the option of increasing graphic fidelity (if the developer wishes so). It has nothign to do with limited hardware. Even if the hardware was ten times stronger, 30fps version would still have that bit more space for graphical improvements.

Right? If anything, I wish more games would let us choose between more effects at 30 and less effects at 60. A man can dream.

Damn, TLOU at 60fps looks sooo goood.

Have seen anything about shadows at 30fps compared to shadows at 60fps?

Probably still gonna go with 60fps, but still curious how much better.

?

i guess the car restoration failed because it doesn't look like the Ferrari? jezz....

cant turn ps3 assets on to ps4 assets, that why the games look so different

Uh oh, ammunition for the 30 FPS crowd

Show us the receipts

I prefer "Stable FPS Crowd"
If it was stable 60 FPS, that's what I'd want. I don't like the dropped frames in Games like tomb Raider. It feels inconsistent.
I hope more games have a 30 FPS option quite frankly if they can't get their stuff running at perfect 60 FPS.

The improved shadow differences at 30fps are in the day 1 patch i think, so we can't tell yet.

I'm more surprised people were unaware that a game could have better graphical fidelity if they lowered the framerate. Isn't that why games aren't 60 FPS in the first place?

I think I'm going to play through at 60fps, and then switch to 30fps to see/feel the difference.

I to hope we see this option pop up more often this gen.

That's a terrible example, but it's terrible because the GTO looks classier than the Ferrari.

It's actually a good example.

It's hardly just assets. Actually, the higher-fidelity asset versions probably work out better than a lot of other things about the game. There are tremendous differences in shading paradigms and such that aren't necessarily going to slide smoothly into a ported last-gen game. As a fresh start with a much larger development effort behind it, it would not be surprising if U4 is taking vastly superior advantage of the PS4's architecture.

I think it's the real deal, as this version on youtube has the same changes as in the video on gamersyde. It's definitely not the PS3 version.

But it looks still better than some of the shadows you'll find in KZ SF. (and this is a straight capture from my PS4 with USB drive)
