Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

I keep refreshing the eShop and they're still not up. So jazzed for this. If this boots the Wii U directly to wii mod that will be bunk; I would love for miiverse support...

I have $8 in eShop credit, I don't even need to think for a second. Metroid Prime Trilogy. I never got through the first game and I've been wanting to play them with Wii Remote compatibility but I could never find the Trilogy anywhere.

So stoked.

Though for games like SMG2 I feel like if you own the disc it should just download the game for free. Come on. I guess however long it takes to load from the Wii menu is the price we pay for not shelling out an extra $10/20 for a game we already own though.

Man this kills my excitement since we can't play MPT with the gamepad. It can't be that hard to port the controls. Guess it's just Dolphin for me than.

Oh man, I REALLY wish they'd patch Gamepad controls into some Wiimote games. Galaxy 2 would work flawlessly, and be native res for off-tv play.

By the way, assuming these are processed entirely using hardware BC a la the GBA ambassador games on 3DS, that throws the entire argument of not selling GBA games on 3DS due to "not up to Virtual Console standards" completely out the window.

SMG2 is an instabuy no matter what. DKCR too because I borrowed it, so I feel like I owe them that. MPT though... I already own all three in separate form so I dunno.

No Gamepad off-TV capabilities for any of them, though, right?

Time to trade in my physical copy on MPT, I think. CEX are offering £45 credit for it. Or I coul go the eBay route, where it seems to fetch £60+.

Prime Trilogy for £9 is a steal, totally down for some of that.

What's the 60Hz support like for the PAL version of these games? Any point getting my hopes up?

Nintendo first party games have had 60hz as standard since the gamecube days, MP2 even had a warning on the cover of the GC version saying it was only playable in 60hz.

Metroid Prime Trilogy for 10 euros is a great price!! For those who don't own the game but want it, go ahead and buy it now!!

Is there any hope of Wii-U Pro Controllers being compatible?

You know what would be extra-megaton? Disc based games now being bootable through Wii-U OS instead of the stupid Wii mode

So for those with questions, this is what I believe it is;

- Direct ports of Wii games to Wii U in digital eShop format.
- Bootable from the main Wii U menu, avoiding having to activate Wii compatibility mode.
- Standard 480p resolution as per original hardware. Games are not rendered higher.
- Wii U GamePad compatibility for titles that had Wii classic controller support. Wii Remote specific titles will not be GamePad compatible.

In short, they're more or less direct ports. That's it. They are not rendered at a higher resolution. They do not have Wii Remote controls hacked to the GamePad. They are as-is, just in digital format, bootable from the Wii U menu, and in the case where Classic Controller was compatible use of the GamePad in its place.

Is there a reason to believe that Classic Controller support for GamePad will be limited for those Titles from the E Shop?
Hope it will work with my Disk Versions of Xenoblade and Last Story.

is this one happening for all wii bc? that's what it sounded like. it's all i need.

ok hold the phone. shouldn't this solve that virtual console problem since all those games used it. if nintendo doesn't open this up now it would seem awfully greedy. all we'd be paying for is miiverse support (and in the case of the NES, a crappier looking emulator).

So correct me if I'm wrong, but do the four games announced so far even use a classic controller? It's stupid that I might not be able to play Punch-Out on the gamepad...

The Gamepad not replacing the Wii remote makes me question the reason for SMG2 being a launch game. I would have like to see a stylus style control experimented on.

Moreso when you considering the €20 price. I can buy a Nintendo Selects version for less than that (and the RRP would be €20 as well). Therefore why not print these as Nintendo Selects, you still get my money, just slightly less of it because discs cost money to print. Kirby's Adventure Wii is the only title I'm interested in but it shows that they'll killed off any thoughts of a Nintendo Selects re-release which does upset me.

Oh fuck that is some insane pricing (in the good way for once!). Will likely buy everything if they do this half off thing with all releases.

Just hope Nintendo put Disaster Day of Crisis on there and make it available in the US this time to make up for fucking it's physical release up so badly.

Bonus points for fucking over the toolboxes on various sales sites charging stupid prices for second hand copies of MP Trilogy too :D

This would be good. More people need to play them.
As an european I loved this game to bits.

Though for games like SMG2 I feel like if you own the disc it should just download the game for free. Come on. I guess however long it takes to load from the Wii menu is the price we pay for not shelling out an extra $10/20 for a game we already own though.

And what would stop people from just borrowing a disc from a friend to get a free game? Or selling the discs after downloading a free digital version.

Are any of those games even compatible with the Classic Controller Pro? I wanna say no.

I believe Punch-out is I think? The rest aren't... But if wii BC is going to work this way for all games going forward, that means good things for any physical wii owners.

This may be Nintendo's way to try and curb Wii piracy on the Wii U... Try and make full wii mode obsolete.

Well then Wii U owners could just pass around a single disc to unlock their copy.

And what would stop people from just borrowing a disc from a friend to get a free game? Or selling the discs after downloading a free digital version.

Ok you make an excellent point.

Counter-point: you use the Club Nintendo code. That way it's tied to your system/account. Won't work if you buy the game used, but there you go.

Does/did Wii game in question have Classic Controller Support? Y/N

If Y: You can use the Wii U GamePad to control.
If N: You cannot use the Wii U GamePad to control. You must use Wii Remote.

Your Wii game-of-interest that does not have Classic Controller support has not been patched to transfer Wii Remote controls to the GamePad.
