Wii Titles (SMG2, Metroid Prime trilogy and Punch Out!) Announced for Wii U eShop

I'm getting mixed signals regarding this. One the one hand, implementing such a feature would require a system update and Nintendo mentioned none of that during the stream. On the other hand, none of the three games announced during the stream are compatible with the Classic Controller Pro, so it makes zero sense to announce the feature alongside those three games if it only applies to Virtual Console games. Any of the games announced for other regions uses the CCP?

Pandora's Tower at the very least I know uses the CCP

Dammit Nintendo, I can't say no to those 1st week prices, even tho I find your lack of an account based purchasing system utterly disgusting.

If they hacked in GamePad controller support to Wii mode, that probably means that GameCube is coming soon.

Stop spreading misinformation. If you have a problem with Nintendo's account system, complain about that.

Pandora's Tower does. I believe Zangeki no Reginleiv, Sin & Punishment and Punch-Out as well.

We need 3rd-parties on board like XSEED, I NEED my Little King Story fix again! :D

Yeah, I'm hoping more people get the chance to play Fragile Dreams and things.

9.99 during the first week.

Saying Nintendo has no account based purchasing and everything is tied to a piece of hardware is misinformation?

Metroid Prime Trilogy for 9.99 euro's is insane, that's Orange Box level of insanity even if it's the original resolution.

Also, I'm playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the gamepad with the Wii Remote. The game looks better on my gamepad due the lower resolution screen compared to my TV. Also, the Wiimote seems way more precise with the gamepad screen. It's pretty great.

Pandora's Tower does. I believe Zangeki no Reginleiv, Sin & Punishment and Punch-Out as well.

As far as I can tell, they don't. S&P needs the Nunchuck to move around and the Wiimote to actually shoot things, and Punch-Out!! is only compatible with the Wiimote sideways (mimicking the control scheme for the NES Punch-Out!!).

So, only Zangeki no Reginleiv and Pandora's Tower are compatible with the CCP... odd.

MPT and Punch Out for me hopefully these sell well and we'll get more obscure stuff down the line. I have Punch Out on disc already but damn if I don't want to be able to play it on the game pad and I can't seem to find my disc anyway.

I don't have a Wii U, but will SMG2 and MPT be playable with just gamepad or pro controller?

Neither game had those capabilities on the Wii, so they're not available on the Wii U

Guys

These are ISO dumps

Less work went into these than regular VC games, where the emulators are tailored specifically for the game. With Wii games, they're just the Wii ISO bootable from the Wii U menu, that's it, that's all.

A question I'm wondering: I transferred my Wii files to my Wii U, including my Metroid Prime Trilogy save. I no longer have the disc, so if I get the eShop version, will I be able to use the old save and pick up where I left off? I would imagine so since it just uses Wii Mode.

If anyone had a Galaxy 2 save on their system before getting the eShop version and could test it that would be awesome.

It's probably a bad idea to go this offtopic in this thread, but yeah, the purchases are tied to an account, but you have to call customer service if you want to move the account to another system.

Sin & Punishment 2 had classic controller support.

You don't actually want to play that way, because Wiimote is far superior for it, it was available.

Now that the gates have been opened, I really would like to see more obscure Wii games hit the e-shop. They really need to get a 2nd chance. Sin and Punishment 2 and Pandora's Tower are a nice start.

Video

Looks like there may be a digital manual akin to some other Virtual Console games but the guy didn't click on it so I don't know.

Interesting .... looks like a mix of wii mode and wiiu mode O.o

I am still kinda wishing homebrew systems can reverse enginner this for gamepad use on nintendon't and retroarch

Btw I never used the Wii Mode on my WiiU. Do you get full audio out the gamepad?

The way my setup is right now, my tv is on the side and my computer monitor is in front. I can display the image from the conseil on either screen but obviously only have speakers on the TV. I would much prefer play stuff in front of me.

If only the console had a toslink out...ugh.

Not sure why they even mention the gamepad being used as a pro controller when it looks like only ONE of those games (Pandora's Tower) is playable that way.

Does this apply to disc-based Wii games too?

These are no different than PSone titles on PSN, but surprisingly, nobody is having a bitch fit over those.

These are people who don't even own Nintendo hardware just looking for a reason to bitch about Nintendo... we get them every single Nintendo thread, best to just ignore them.

#1: because more are already planned that will.

#2: No, at least not yet. Here's hoping they eventually move the Wii disc channel to the Wii U menu and launch all games this way. Off screen Wii games that can actually use the gamepad would be amazing (Rune Factory Frontier pleaaase!)

I own physical copies of all those games.

But those 1st week prices are still tempting.

Yes. In Wii mode, the Gamepad can act as a TV complete with speakers and built-in sensor bar. And it has a headphone jack as well.

So, can I play Mario Galaxy 2 using the gamepad? If not, I'll just stick to my wii copy if I have to use wiimote/nunchuk anyways.

It seems more to me that these are re-compiled releases of wii software with few adequations to use the Wii U resources, so they run as native wii U software. I'm all for gamepad support for Wii software and GC, which seems more actually an artificial limitation than a technical imposibility in any way.

Full audio on gamepad, you also don't need the wii bar thing if you're playing on the Gamepad with a wiimote.

Actually, I play Punch Out!! with the Wiimote+Balance Board combo. Realistic and great for doing exercise!

This is so fucking awesome. I haven't really played SMG2 much, so it's like a surprise new Mario game for me.

Fuck. So excited. Now where the hell is N64!!!!???

Interesting that SMG2 and DKCR are the first two games up. Lent the two of them to my cousin a few years back and they mysteriously disappeared. That was after not lending anyone shit for like 5 years. Haven't given anyone anything since lol

Full audio on gamepad, you also don't need the wii bar thing if you're playing on the Gamepad with a wiimote.

Ok cool thanks.

Yeah I have the sensor bar on my center screen so that'S perfect.

I still wish there was a toslink out so that way I could pipe in the WiiU in my whole sound setup and play with my wireless headphones.

I'm really excited for MPT. I was gonna buy this for 40$ used at gamestop 2 weeks ago but decided not to. So glad I put it back down now.

Gamecube software already technically runs natively and can make use of Wii U accessories, so there's not really a distinction.

Likely going to get Punch-Out if it's coming out in the US this month. Going to get some more milage out of the Wii Fit U bundle I bought last week.

These games were not made in 2015. These are not HD remasters; they're exactly like the PS1-PS2 classics on PSN, or the "Xbox Originals" on 360.

They're the same price as the HD port of Resident Evil coming out next week. It would have been nice if they could have made them higher res.

Having rare games like Metroid Trilogy made available digitally is always nice though.

My last DDP $5 will go towards Metroid Prime Trilogy. I may also grab Super Mario Galaxy 2 since it's only $10.

$15 for both is nice.
