Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

You're assuming they're even working on a flagship title. For all we know they've quietly killed the series and are sticking to spinoff titles for 3DS and mobile.

I guess if you want to make that assumption, there is zero evidence to either prove or disprove it.

All we know is that multiple Metroid concepts are in development, as confirmed by Miyamoto last year. As this one doesn't even feature the main character of the franchise, it's fair to say it doesn't represent the future of the main series. I don't even think this game looks good, but it's such a cheap-looking title that it's impossible for me to be annoyed by it. It's just a schedule filler. They cobbled together an ugly looking co-op Zelda game just like they have with this one. Neither represent anything more than a barren schedule that needs titles ASAP.

Looks really underwhelming. NLG proved to be a really good studio with Luigi's Mansion 2, I think it was time for Nintendo to take their game... to the next level.

Did you forget about these memorable Metroid characters?

Does any body even remember their names? I sure hell don't.

I don't understand why they slapped Metroid on the title when if could have at least been a new IP, Splatoon shows people can be receptive to it if the work is put in. This doesn't share anything with the Metroid Prime series.

Because Splatoon had an awesome world, and this is kind of bland if it was its own thing. :v

Umm, the general opinion rather is that Codename Steam turned out average at best.

Yeah. Codename Steam is a situation where a Codename Steam 2 could be amazing. The current game has a number of issues that make it hard to play.

I'm not at all happy with I'm seeing with this new Metroid game and I'm a point I don't give a damn in regard to what Retro is doing. If they put out something and it's interesting nice. Until then I don't care at this point. I likely might not be buying this. I didn't want a game like Tropical Freeze and I still haven't bought it. I might be doing the same thing with this. I'll just keep playing the Metroid Prime Trilogy I did buy.

yeah, it's crazy how they can go from Luigi's Mansion 2 and Punchout to whatever this is. It's like Nintendo isn't aware of what Next Level's strengths are.

I played through it, and I'm pretty sure one of them is called EVA-01.

Right?

I'm not offended by tying this to Metroid at all, but I really don't know why it is if it's not even a little bit like it beyond the UI.

But yeah, I'm generally supportive of this game, it could be a REALLY fun game, but I can't express how sad I am to know that Next Level Games wasn't working on a Punch-Out!! game - or at the very least, has it on the backburner.

You're proving my point

People don't seem to realize that the 3DS desperately needed more genre variation. This game is a fantastic contrast to the RPGs that plague the system (not counting STEAM as it's middling action elements to help keep it distinct, but it's still not enough as ABE is really, really bad).

I would have been fine with this had the game been a less chibi, single player focused spin off revolving around the federation and their business. With a driven story.

Yeah, but those concepts could have been for this.

They managed to make a Metroid game look like shovelware. Hope it bombs.

By the way you do realise that if this game bombs in sales, Nintendo is going to think

"Oh I guess no-one wanted a Metroid game despite asking for it"

Also people seem to forget this, Nintendo is also working on a 2D Metroid game. They stated this last year.

This isn't Metroidvania. >:|

Nor is this Prime: Hunters 2. >:|

>:(

...At least a co-op shooter is technically a shooter for 3DS, I guess...? Though I'm not really about the 3DS shooter life anymore. Give me a Metroidvania and we'll talk, Nintendo.

A lot of people denied a Metroid connection even though it was INCREDIBLY obvious.

I thought Nintendo couldn't be that stupid. Seems I was wrong.

Better to die. I'd rather have gone on wanting Nintendo to announce a new Metroid and have it never come than be presented with this.

Yeah dude, its definitely our job to support any and all incarnations of a franchise. Otherwise, if it fails, its on us.

Yup. I'm thinking it'll be the Wii U's swan song. People seem to not understand that this is gonna be an (admittedly cool looking) spinoff to tide people over until the real Metroid game comes out.

Hopefully NX really is some kind of hybrid that replaces both Wii U and 3DS so that Nintendo doesn't waste any more of it's IPs on games that look terrible on this 3DS hardware.

If true, they should just put the series into the ground. I hope it bombs too.

BTW, I'm not getting the 'this spells the end of prime'. Unless you believe Metroid Prime: Hunters and Metroid Prime: Pinball already did this.

You know, part of the reason they revived the Kid Icarus series was because of strong sales of the lack luster GBA port.

Just consider that when you hope this game bombs.

Yeahhhh. If we could go ahead and not use Metarcritic to measure a games quality, that'd be greaaaat.

It's actually a great measure on the general consensus of a game's quality and thus it can be taken at hand when a person implies that the general public found a game "fucking fantastic".

Is it just me, or does this look worse than Prime Hunters?

It clearly looks better, but Prime Hunters was more impressive given the hardware it was on, if that makes sense.

It's weird, since Luigi's Mansion 2 is one of the best-looking 3DS games, so it's not like it's the hands of an inexperienced developer on the platform. Maybe they're making a lot of concessions for the co-op focus.

And here I was telling myself the other day that a new Metroid would be the best chance to get me to crack and buy a WiiU. This sure don't look like Metroid to me though.
A real Metroid, maybe being saved for NX I guess.

Given there's a good chance it could lead to more Other Ms/ Federation Force games, it's a gamble I'm willing to take. Let this game burn.

Even if this is a good game (it probably will be), I think we're seeing the death of the Metroid IP before our eyes. There is absolutely no way this game is a success sales-wise and Nintendo will simply let the franchise die. I'm really sad. Unless there's already a big new Metroid game in development for NX, which would be awesome.

That would cost much more money though. A real Prime game (spinoff or not) would have to look much better than this. Federation Force is simply crude compared to the designs from the Prime trilogy. This is just a cheap and cheerful multiplayer game set in the Metroid universe.

This is about what I would expect from a low-budget co-op game on 3DS. NLG did amazing work with Punch-Out!! and Luigi's Mansion 2, if this project had the budget to reach those visual heights, I'm sure it would. But just like that Zelda spinoff that was also announced, it's deliberately low-cost.

Hunters especially seems like significantly more effort went into it. That was one of the most technically impressive DS games.
