Metroid Prime Federation Force Announced (Next Level, 3DS, 4 Player, Mission Based)

They're still planning the Sylux game? Wow. I thought that would never come about... Sylux was the best character in Hunters. He was the only one they gave a ship other than Samus and he showed up in the bonus ending of MP3. He won a poll asking fans who they wanted to see star in a Metroid spinoff.

Reads interview.

This is also the first concrete confirmation that the ship that chases Samus at the end of MP3 was Sylux'. I mean, we didn't really need it because the ship looks almost the same as the one in Hunters, but some people refused to accept that.
The best thing about Hunters was, of course, the hunters. I'd love to see then return and get fleshed out. I loved the rock one. What was his name? Spire? And the worm dude.

When he tries to do something he fails, when his team actually does something they succeed. Not having Sakamoto around for Metroid is the best thing the series could possibly have.

Yeah, ignoring all those interviews where it's mentioned that many of the designs and elements that made Metroid what metroid is are attributed directly to him, both by his employees and his employers and even his contemporaries.

Cause everybody feels some god given need to give him undue praise for work he didn't do.

What would you guys think about redesigning the characters so that they aren't chibi-fied?

There's a precedent for this:

Honestly, the chibified characters are the least of my problems with the game's visuals. I'm more concerned with the bland environments (especially the snowy area) and enemies (That aren't directly lifted from the Prime trilogy).

Sakamoto without his team is demonstrably trash, there's no getting around this. Hell, without him the 2D metroids probably wouldn't have been much different. Fusion probably would have been better with less Adam flashbacks.

Sakamoto never said this.

I didn't attribute the quote to Sakamoto. I was quoting the people that reacted to what Sakamoto said. He said that they are parallel stories. The Prime games are pretty inconsistent with the games that are supposed to take place after them, anyway. It's best to just keep them as a separate narrative since they were doing pretty well without being concern with connecting to the 2D games anyway. Sakamoto doesn't seem to concern himself with Tanabe's narrative when he makes a new Metroid game and Tanabe doesn't seem to concern himself with what Sakamoto is doing when he makes Prime games.

Well, attaching the metroid name to it certainly did something

jesus I think this has the most posts out of any individual E3 game thread, outside of TLG, FF7, and Shenmue 3
EDIT: Wait, Fallout 4 thread is larger.

There are interviews that straight up say this is wrong.

The director of the original Metroid said Sakamoto was the origin of Metroid's map structure and sequence breaking

And his staff for Super Metroid even attributed most of those designs to him.

Metroid wouldn't be metroid without Sakamoto. It's not a arguable point, it's a fact.

Hell he had to fight his producer to not cancel Super Metroid

Incorrect, his demonstrated failures without his team is a fact. Again, he's Nintendo's George Lucas.

Yep, Spire. Worm dude was Kanden.
I would be super down with this if you could play as the hunters. I have such fond memories of that games online. I beat the singleplayer too but honestly barely remember it.

Each hunter had a unique weapon, transformation, and back story. I'm glad Sylus is still a thing but I'd love to see the others return as well. I guess cause I really want a Metroid game that actually focuses on bounty hunting - with an RPG like quest system, use of scanning for tracking, traveling between planets, and deciding to kill/capture targets. Have the game still structured like a Metroid game, so you need to unlock abilities to access areas. You play as Samus, of course, but you could also play as some of the other hunters (at least on certain missions). Don't ruin the atmosphere - each bounty should be mysterious. You should go at it some. You get nothing more than a simple text description of the target and the planet they're on. You're alone 95+% of the time, and dialogue is minimal.

I'd but a system for that.

It's not incorrect since there's documented proof.

And failures indicate multiple, Other M didn't turn into several games.

Apparently Other M was so bad it counts four times. Federation Force is also such a slap in the face that it counts for five bad games, so the Metroid franchise is totally in the red right now.

The fans wants: Team deathmatch style online multiplayer.
The fans receives: somewhat awful grifball style sports game.

sigh. ;(

For me this looks fun, but It doesn't mean this game is good as metroid franchise.

OK, Federation Force looks legit. I've done a complete 180* on this game, for the better.

I imagine you guys are already discussing this, but if you haven't seen it, be sure to check out the most fun Treehouse Live session ever. I had a huge smile on my face watching this. Both missions they show look great.

First, the general atmosphere and attention to detail is more on point than I had thought from the short trailer in the Digital Event. Love the haunting music in the lobby, the loadout options (healing beams, slow-down beams), the look of the environments and the enemies (the ice beasts, pirates with the sabers, etc). Love the billowing smoke effect from comrades in critical condition, and the jet-thrusters on the extended jump.

Character movement looks like it has a good feel to it, with the quick sidestep dodge, the subtle gyro tweaking reminiscent of Splatoon, etc. The charge shot (and gunplay in general) looks satisfying — very fast and punchy with the trailing effects.

Some surprisingly intense moments, where everyone is down and the sole survivor is trying to fend off pirates while reviving teammates and stopping the missile inbound on the target you're trying to protect. Or luring the beast into the cage and then slipping out of the cage so your teammates can close it.

Really intrigued by this. I want to play it. If it was that fun watching it, I'm confident it'll be fun to play. This is Next Level Games, right? It'll probably be one of the best-looking games on the system by the time it comes out. I'm already warming up to the style, which is more "bulky armor" than straight-up "chibi."

Also, Blast Ball is part of this, right? I saw videos of that and it looks like a lot of fun, as well. Really warming up to this game.

The Treehouse really sold me on it, holy shit does that look fun.

Well, I for one totally wanted more prequels after Phantom Menace. It was just one movie right?

Watched the Treehouse footage, the game seems like it will be a lot of fun. I think people are still just bitter about the Digital Event. While the flow and overall presentation were bad, I still think a lot of the games shown were good and have potential.

More like

The fans want: An exploration game in which the solitary explorer descends into the darkness beneath worlds, surviving, enduring and overcoming. She becomes attuned to her environment, discovers long-lost relics of dead civilisations, and seeks out the hidden evils shrouded by darkness, rock and ruin.

The fans receive: Co-op mission shooter multiplayer in bright bold environments, and a bombastic multiplayer sports shoot for the goal and score game in a big bouncy bright surrounding.

Beggars belief.

I thought the second mission in the Treehouse demo was far superior to the capture map. That wasn't really interesting at all. But I felt... good about the second part.

But man, the character mech designs are so blah. Rethinking those designs would help considerably. Why don't you get to play as the standard GFed troopers? Those guys looked pretty neat and still reminiscent of Samus's design. Unlike these boring mech things.

Blast Ball is a separate mode. The main game is a co-op shooter where you go on missions to complete various objectives like fighting space pirates and capturing giant aliens.

I agree with this too. ;(

Yep. I know this.
I only talked about Blastball. The Federation force looks fun than Blastball though. ;)

Remember Bryyo.

Treehouse video actually doesn't look that bad as a non metroid game, this could easily be a decent 3rd party game.
Still has this awful psx game style that makes it look like a budget game

It looks like an absolute blast.

And henestly, I think if nintendo had shown, that they still knew how to make a design solid metroid exploration adventure, and then showed this spinoff for 3ds, it would have been practically universally well recieved.

It's amazing how hard people will try to stretch reality to fit their narrative that Sakamoto isn't important to the Metroid series.

Yeah I'm sure Super Metroid would totally be the same without it's director in your imaginary world.

It looks plain as fuck. If you took off the Metroid name and put this thing out for $5 on iOS, PSN, eShop or XBLA nobody would give it a second look.
Sure, that's the first impression, and hopefully they can address it. But because of the name and developer pedigree, I checked out the Treehouse Live footage, and it looks fun as hell. It looks like there's a truly excellent game there, and one that might even make good use of the brand name, in terms of world-building and capturing the feel of movement in the Prime series.

I loved Bryyo :(
Aesthetically and lore-wise Bryyo was great. It's level design however was a bit too simplified and linear compared to the rest of the series.

But I blame that on breaking up the map into such small segments that they did with the ship travel in Prime 3.

It doesn't look like a good shooter even putting aside the Metroid name.
I'm waiting for more challenging mission design for federation as the core of metroid prime's shooting was honestly not that great

Blast ball looks much better from a gameplay standpoint, although it's probably just a side game
There are more interesting eShop games available tbh.
On 3DS? No, not really. Moon Chronicles is absolute ass, qnd I've only heard mixed things about ironfall.

Kid Icarus probably had 10 times the budget as it was Nintendo's only AAA game for the system, so it's not a fair comparison. Not to mention it's 3rd person.

Based on the treehouse look I get the feeling the visuals are designed that way to cope with online play and shooter netcode that doesn't require a N3DS for processing power.

But it looks really fun and like it plays great. I actually want to try it now.

Looks like metroid is the only franchise that can't have a spin off that expands the metriod universe.

After umpteen years without an F-Zero game, would it be satisfactory for Nintendo to announce F-Zero: Cooking Simulator? I mean, that's a spin off that expands the F-Zero universe, right?

I hope they can undergo a ZombiU level of visual change (It was something else before), because otherwise I give it no chance of being accepted decently, let alone well

I watched the entire footage and seemed like the same bland "chip big enemy's health bar" shit that every co-op shooter had for the last 5 years. I sure as hell didn't see anything resembling a Metroid game. Doesn't even seem tangentially in the same universe.

Maybe it will look better in the future, but not impressed at all right now.

No. This is far from the same thing as that. Are you reading what you type.
An exploration based shooting and platforming game with a spin off as a coop team based shooting and platforming game.
Cmon man. A more apropriate analogy would be an F-Zero objective based high speed racing game that didn't have circuits. Like a need for speed style or something.
And fuck yes id be down for that, just like I'm down with this.
