E3 2015 | Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3

Do you mean the charge shots? Those have been in every Mario Tennis, even the last one. I think they're here, too (it was mentioned in the press release, at least). Unless you mean the Power Shots from Power Tennis, which no, those are gone.

I think it's because Nintendo is unwilling to put a big budget behind these titles now. Back on the Gamecube, they seemed to want everything Mario-related to have great presentation and gameplay yet the last couple of Mario sports titles in recent memory have been mediocre gameplay and very barebones (see: Mario Sports Mix on the Wii and Open Tennis).

I think, also, there's just not a lot you can really do with tennis outside of the modes they have offered for it since 64 and Power Tennis. Your basic tournament mode to unlock characters, VS mode, a quirky items-based mode using items from Mario Kart, and the mini-games where you hit tennis balls at piranha plants, paint walls with tennis balls, etc etc. An RPG mode on console is likely outside the scope of the game's budget or what Nintendo is willing to give them to do it and that's why even World Tour's "RPG" mode isn't what people wanted and even led to disappointment for that game despite how content rich it was and its online.

Maybe I'm wrong (I hope I am) but it really seems like because this is coming so soon they haven't added much at all and is why they're showing off something as uninteresting as the Mega Mushrooms mode -- a mode that may as well have been part of the items mode of past games. And even why they're... keeping the chance shots mechanic...

Mario tennis does not need a RPG mode.

That is true I guess.
They generally have someone with each game though, they could explain the controls to people. I mean isn't the point of E3 to try out games before they release?

That wouldn't work for a game like Xenoblade X. That game is very complex and text heavy. It wouldn't be much fun to play because you will have no clue what is going on and what you are looking at.

The sports things reminded me, wasn't another Sonic & Mario Olympics games announced for this year? Kind of wondering about that, I don't think think I've seen any mention of it at all. I mean, I don't care about it or anything, but still, curious omission and all.

You're in the minority lol. There's a huge amount of people on GAF where anytime a new Mario Tennis/Golf are brought up the first thing that's asked is, "IS THERE AN RPG MODE LIKE ON THE HANDHELD ONE I PLAYED IN THE '90S???"

It's very clearly desired. Is it necessary? I don't think so, but people want it.

It's on the e3 site with Fatal Frame with what looks to be a new trailer.

release date is August 21. too bad I have other games to get. I'd get it otherwise :x

it looks good enough to heal the Custom Robo void in me

But Gaf does not represent the general audience or even the majority. They probably don't have a RPG mode because only a few played it, kinda like how Mart Kart 8 doesn't really have a Battle Mode anymore.

I like the battle gameplay in this game, the child anime portion no so much. Gameplay might outweigh the look though.

To be fair I never expect RPG modes in the console version since it has never been present there. They used to be always present in the handheld version though and that's normally where my expectations for that always were.

I was about to ask if a new Custom Robo got announced. lol

I need to stop watching the tree house, I kinda want this now too. I already have plenty to buy.

Take a good long look. Because you will never see them in stories and your wallet will cry once you see the prince on Ebay.

Think the Skylanders versions will not be hard to find since Activision is making them.
But yeah, the Nintendo ones you are correct.

So, if I understood correctly, the characters would still show up in Happy Home Designer without the amiibo figures or card, but it would be random, like how they show up in the main game. That's good to know.

Did they ever state the price for the cards or how they would be distributed.
