E3 2015 | Nintendo Treehouse Live @ E3

Wait, which game was that they were showing just a minute ago where they were going near an arcad and showed the world map and turned down a battle? That wasn't YoKai?

Funny how a game that most on this site had no interest in suddenly thinks this is GOTY. I wanted Mario Maker before it was cool :P

The moment that sold me on Mario Maker in E3 2014 was when Tezuka showed off how you could attach Paratroopa wings to Piranha Plants and the game would account for the interaction. I'm so glad they realized that, along with robust online sharing, would be the heart of the game's appeal and the thing that sets their toolkit far above what people can already accomplish with ROM hacks. Most of the fun in this toolkit will be in mixing and matching mechanics that have never been seen in combination in a Mario game, and the NWC stages showed this off at every turn.

That is what I meant. It is impossible to change styles after publishing a level.

The code probably could not handle changing physics and themes on the fly.
No. You can change them. They did it last night. You would have to edit the level design to account for the changes in Mario's abilities, though. If a level requires wall jumps and you change to a different style you're going to have to change things so Mario can get through with the abilities he does have.

He's talking about changing style in-game, playing the actual levels and not during editing. Say you play a Super Mario Bros level and when you enter a pipe, you'll emerge in a Super Mario Bros U level.

I honestly thought this was really stupid when I heard about it, but it looks really interesting and fun. I'm coming around on nearly everything I was on fence for.

This is awesome to read. I must say that one of my best moment of any E3 was when Yoshis Wooly World was on casually in the background earlier when I was about to put my son to sleep. He is 4 years old, and know Mario from 3D World, Mario Kart and a plushie he has, and Yoshi from another plushie, but suddenly they did the transformation of Yoshi from Mario on the stream and he thought it was so incredibly funny that he started laughing out loud. It was so cute to see, and we started to watch it a bit together and I tried to explain. Of course I had to promise to get the game for him when it comes out :)

Awww :-D

Are they going to do the same games tomorrow? I wonder if there will be any new stuff?

I hope not. It feels like we've had a lot of recycled content already (I really don't recall so many games being featured more than one last year? More games, I guess). The only unshown things I can really think of are Fatal Frame, Devil's Third, and the Mario & Sonic thing, though.

I think Treehouse was pretty good today. We saw new SMTxFE and Fast Racing Neo gameplay. Mario Maker, Fire Emblem, Zelda, and Xenoblade looked great.

Hopefully they decide to bring out Devil's Third online gameplay and Fatal Frame.

I foresee the Mario Maker community on GAF being super awesome. Playtesting each other's levels and stuff.
Sounds amazing, I need to train at designing interesting courses now.
Some Mario Maker stuff via GameXplain https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1ywpk6vxQY&feature=youtu.be

There's a bobbing effect you can have it seems and I wonder if the intensity can be adjusted. I also wonder if there is an option for autoscrolling as well so I can make a flying airship level.
There is indeed an autoscrolling option, they are slow(turtle)/medium(rabbit)/fast(puma?), you can see it in their other video :

They only recycle a few times today with Yoshi, Chibi Robo, Star Fox, Zelda, and Mario Maker. Almost everything else was fresh. Even the stuff they had shown again were shown in greater scope like exclusive levels and interviews. The treehouse have a lot more games, content, and interviews than last year when they really overdid it with Splatoon and Smash.

He originally asked if you can change the theme/style of any level you play. Nothing about while playing it. I'm not sure the engine couldn't handle changing the style on the fly since in the editor changing a style takes less than a second and changes all of the physics and AI accordingly. You can be playing, pause, change the style, then go back to playing in about a second.

I wonder if we'll some Shantae HGH on the Treehouse Live stream tomorrow

Matt Bozon seems to be enjoying himself at E3
