I just checked. The Jurassic World review embargo was lifted on June 10th at 9pm EST, 2 days before the film's release in June 12th. While it was pretty close to the film's release, sometimes studios withhold reviews until the week of to dominate the news with reviews of the film for most of the week. The fact that the F4 reviews won't go up until the time of the Thursday night showings in the East Coast is concerning. Again, I'm hoping that the film is good, more good movies isn't anything wrong to hope for, but the embargo going on for that long isn't a good sign.

That's why I'm wondering what the tweet means when saying "day of release". Are they talking about the actual day that audiences can go to a showing (Thursday) or the "official release" day (Friday).
Regardless, I have a lot of doubts about this movie but still hope it succeeds. The Marvel port-begging in FF threads is pathetic and we're just going to get more of it...plus, as a camera operator for indie shorts/films, people begging for a film to fail kinda disgusts me.

I'm actually an actor myself, so I usually hope for the success of my fellow thespians (who are way above my league right now).
On the matter at hand, I think we may be reading too much into the tweet. If they meant the red carpet premiere, they would have said "premiere" instead of "release". As such, I'm gonna say that it's August 6th at 7pm EST unless further specified by Fox or any other reputable source.

The main thing that worries me about this movie is that it doesn't show any Ben Grimm (The Thing) talking. It's almost like he's been reduced to an effect, and I really hope that isn't the case.
Back when I used to read the book in the 80's, The Thing was a BIG PERSONALITY in the book. He was the core of Reed's guilt, the living example of a tragic hero, and one of those guys with banter that made the book super fun to read. The character was even popular enough to have his own mini-series after the original Secret Wars.
I'm loving the Ultimates-=version of the FF that we're seeing, but I really hope they didn't toss The Thing to the side just to give more lines to more recognizable faces....

As a camera operator, you know as well as I do that everyone who worked on the movie got paid. The failure of the movie won't impact anyone below the line.
I worked in the business for a decade and have no problems with rooting for this movie to fail. The property is in the wrong hands, and is being handled poorly.

Thanks! It does seem like something that you can get burned out on quite easily.
Let's try to look at this from each other's points of view.
- On one hand, you have the fact that Fox fast-tracked this movie for release solely to make sure that they retained the rights. You shouldn't make a movie just to retain the rights, you should make a movie because you have an idea. Sony learned this lesson the hard way with The Amazing Spider-Man (even though I was okay with the first one).
- On the other hand, you have the idea that there are a ton of talented actors & a director who did a solid movie in the past. You want them as actors, directors, cinematographers, set crew members, etc. to succeed because that's their livelihood.

My statement wasn't a concern for payments, residuals, etc. I'm generally against slapping a "I haven't seen this movie but I want it to fail" sticker on anything.
I want very few movies to fail, especially because of an assumption regarding how the franchise is being mishandled.
Exactly. Low level cast/crew likely won't be impacted by a failure, but anyone with a "name" could be.
We root for sports teams to fail, new flavors of soda to fail, and of course, for movies to fail. It's not unusual or a slight against the industry. We all want more of what we like and less of what we don't like. That's just human nature.
As for seeing a film being a requirement to form an opinion on whether I want it to succeed, I reject that notion outright.
I'll root against a movie if it has an actor I don't like, or a director I don't like, or when the studio doesn't have a clue how to handle the franchise and hires the wrong creative team(to get back on topic).
The worst that can happen is that I'm wrong and it's a great movie and I eat crow. I've certainly been wrong before, but in this case it doesn't look likely.

It's kinda sad that after four movies, Roger Corman's FF is the most faithful to the comic.
It's also pretty telling that many of the advance screenings for the film are scheduled for...that Thursday night.

They just pushed the movie out as soon as they could so they could keep the rights. I don't recall the specific of their production schedule.

About the Jurassic World embargo- when I saw it on the 9th I was told I could post anything about it as soon as I left the theater if I pleased, so I thought that's when the embargo ended. Perhaps not?
Yep, a family going on science adventures and seeing awesome shit. It's like if Einstein and Indiana Jones had son and that son grew up in a sci-fi world and had an awesome extended family that he went on crazy adventures with for no reason other than to see what's out there.

Family friendly fantastical science/space romps with some occasional magic/occult influence thanks to Dr. Doom. Ironically, Fantastic Four would be a great property for Disney because of it's tone, but it's one of the few Marvel properties they don't have the movie rights to.

This movie looks like absolute garbage. What was wrong with the original Fantastic Four? They were pretty good movies (not the best) and the chracters really grew on me (Jessica Alba can be replaced however). I really enjoyed The Silver Surfer, especially the world destroying effects. Such a shame hollywood feels the need to keep rebooting everything and making it 'grittier', we keep getting the same rehashed stories and villans over and over again when there should be WAY more variety (if comics are anything to go by).
Honestly everytime I see a good movie from Hollywood nowadays it seems like it was just dumb luck (except indie films where the director actually seems like they're in control).

I dont think anyone would hold this against the actors, the blame has always been and always will be on fox wasting time with a property they don't have a clue on how to do instead of just focusing on x- related properties. They should just let this lapse or try and get some money back on a sale....is Josh Trank even doing press for this film?
