Word of mouth is super strong for this film. I haven't seen people gushing about a film after watching it like this in some time. After it was over, I passed two guys on their phones telling their buddies they needed to see this film.

The wait for the blu ray is gonna be painful :(

Yeah, as someone who don't like going to the cinema, the wait for this release will be painful.

I went to the cinema for the first time in 7 years to see Star Wars, I actually really wanted to wait for it but I figured there would be zero chance of avoiding spoilers.

The picture quality was just as bad as I was expecting, but sure enough I was playing Battlefront the next day and some cunt was spamming the chat window with
KYLO REN KILLS HAN SOLO
. I hope this person ends up in a Human Centipede.

Ryan Reynolds, the face of the cinematic X-Men universe. What a time to be alive.

Maybe after this success they will have him replace Wolverine as the figurehead when Jackman retires.

The trailers were edited to hell and back except online. (even in front of R-rated movies in theaters)

Regardless it's an MPAA requirement that the R-Rating be up front and center when you buy tickets. It's practically impossible to miss. Parents need to make at least the tiniest ounce of effort when it comes to their kids.

With the success of the film wonder if they'll be another game for Deadpool, doesn't Activision still have the licensed for it... Platinum could make a game.
Deadpool by Platinum would be incredible. There's essentially no limits. Batshit (budget) Bayonetta.
They can't. Marvel banned the use of X-Men & Fantastic Four characters in games made after Contest of Champions. Deadpool counts as an X-Men character for the ban.

Dang, how much is this going to do OW now? With $46M ($12M previews + $34M Friday) possible $100M must be in the cards before the Monday holiday.

I can't wait to see this in IMAX at the noon matinee tomorrow. There's gonna be a lot of uncomfortable types ha-ha.

Finally a film that the internet and common folk love at the same time.

Who was it in the Box office thread that thought Deadpool would be the first film to open over 50M but fail to hit 100M domestic?
.
LOL that was me. Though to be fair I was thinking $80+M on Thursday. After seeing it though, it's pretty clear to me it will blow past a 2.0 multiplier; WOM is gonna be too good here.

So 59.5 million, and still saturday/sunday left (and monday?)

Yea this will hit 100 million huh.
And positive word-of-mouth could push the movie past that. Not that I mind, Deadpool deserves every cent that's coming his way.

If nothing else, the success of Deadpool will hopefully get Marvel's attention so that they can consider lifting the X-Men/F4 ban for their games & cartoons. Even in this thread alone, there's demand for a new Deadpool game (even with the remaster of the High Moon Studios game being out there).

Ah ok, still amazing though.
Dammit. Still good news, though.

It'll probably hit 100 mil for the 3 day though, yeah.

It's actually a headline in this morning's local news package. They're doing the story after they come back from commercial.

I actually noticed Marvels official twitter posting a Deadpool related tweet, about the game. Which I thought was interesting, since they completely ignore Deadpool on their site and twitter usually.

No Deadpool there, but they have all X-Men and Spider-Man movies. Also Deadpool is on sale on Steam and released a Deadpool pack for Marvel Heroes.

Also still enough to pretty much lock a 100M opening. Worst case scenario will be -10% today from Friday proper and -30% on Sunday.

That would be around $102M for the 3day weekend.

With a good hold today and Valentines day tomorrow (plus a long weekend), we might be looking at 125M+ for the 4 day weekend.

With overseas results this film will be in the black in its first weekend.

Man, we didn't even have to wait until Batman v. Superman to get some good Box Office to play with.

2016 is going to be nuts for this shit.

I'm mainly talking about how the X-Men & the Fantastic Four (Deadpool included) were banned by Marvel from appearing in any post-Contest of Champions games & all of their future appearances in cartoons being scrapped in an effort to spite Fox & minimize the exposure of the brands they control on the big screen. Judging by the success of Deadpool, that clearly won't end up working as well as Marvel would want. My hope is that the success of Deadpool may get Marvel to consider lifting the ban. Granted, I'm not sure if it'll happen, but a guy can dream.

So you're telling me the sequel will have 2 bridges?

Haven't seen it and not particularly a fan of Ryan Reynolds but the man has put so much effort to get this movie done that it's good to hear it was a success. Here's hoping r rated movies start to be seen as a feasible option.

Friday without previews did ~$35M. If Deadpool averages that over the next two days (very likely, IMO), it'll end with the highest solo debut for any superhero film, topping Spider-Man 1.

This is so insane. Easily in the top 10 most impressive openings I have personally witnessed.

Even with not great legs (which is still possible, even with good word of mouth) thing might close out somewhere between 225-250 domestic, yeah?

They messed up making this R, imagine if it wasnt?

If it wasn't, I'd write it off and pass on it like I do every other super hero movie that doesn't involve Batman. Because it is, I'm probably going to check this out in the theaters.

We might live in a world where Deadpool is bigger than X-Men.
The opening numbers for this movie are bigger than any recent comic book superhero other than the Iron Man sequels, the most recent Batman movie, and the Avengers films. So Deadpool is bigger than Spider-Man, Captain America, Thor, the X-Men, and Superman.

Warner Bros. must be worried now.

Now that Deadpool has been successful, they might think there won't be enough thirst for BvS. They might just have to rethink their entire strategy for their upcoming slate of movies. They're no longer safe.

It's over.

I have 0 interest in this movie but I'm glad it's doing so well. Hopefully it makes them commit to the xforce movie being R as well.

Wonder how Marvel will respond to this success. Which IP's they can use to make a R rated film? Daredevil and Punisher is stuck on Netflix. Maybe a Nextwave film?

Maybe they'll at least call out their other characters directly in their TV shows instead of that stupid "flag guy" or "green monster" bullshit

I wonder if valentines day will help or hurt this movie.

Great date movie imo, but will people see it as that?

They call them out pretty directly in Agents of SHIELD. Though I suppose you mean Marvel's Netflix shows.

Best Marvel movie to date.

Good shit Ryan.
In my opinion, I'm not sure. Maybe, but I'll need to rewatch the film a few more times to be sure. For reference, my top 3 are...
  1. Spider-Man 2
  2. Guardians of the Galaxy
  3. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The only reason I had Guardians above Winter Soldier was because it held up better with repeat viewings. But yeah, I plan on seeing Deadpool again to be sure how it stacks compared to my Top 3.

I think it will help actually. My wife is really interested in seeing it just because she heard it's funny.

I mean what else are we supposed to see for Valentine's day? How to be single? Woof.

Very nice. This film needs to be a success.

Hopefully we'll see more studios take some risks on their superhero IP.

Which studio is going to do this? Disney is not going to risk their billion dollar profit making machine to make R-rated movies. WB who is betting the bank on the entire Marvel-system.

Half of that was from kids trying to sneak in. (Believe me, I know, I was working the door at my local multiplex yesterday).

I can't tell you how many <17yr olds I turned away.
