Finally saw this movie. I'm going to have to go against the grain here.

Thought it was all shock value and little substance. The best parts of the movie were when it took pace and comedic timing into considering and gave the audience a little room to breath between jokes so that they hit harder. Those rare parts where Wade's jokes actually felt naturally placed.
The rest of the movie was not so much a movie and more of a contrived comedian's set for the evening, with the writers sitting directly behind the screen making awkward and prolonged eye contact with the audience at all times. There were no real characters in this, just marionettes dancing on a stage. I dont feel like I got to know any of them, I just feel like I listened to a writer tell me all his best testicle jokes in preparation for his attempt at The Aristocrats. Every character was just another puppet on the same writer's hand, while he laughs at his own jokes and desperately watches your laughs for approval.

I definitely had more than a few legitimate laughs though and the movie was indeed quite entertaining in its own way. But not in a storytelling sort of way, not for enjoyment of the characters, more like going to the Laugh Factory to see some jackass make a fool of himself while they overcharge you for drinks.

Memepool is empty calories in a way that gives Transformers a real run for its money and I think for some people their sugar-high will eventually wear off. Though first impressions are what count so maybe not.

I'm legitimately happy for it's success though because I think it may lead to a little more variety and chance-taking in Hollywood. I may even see the second one because sometimes youre just in the mood for a trashy snack.

I liked the movie a lot but it was no doubt very cheap. I don't think it'll stand the test of time. For a lot of it, the humor and pacing was reminiscent of modern yt jumpcut bloggers/comedians, so intent on going so hard so fast the audience never gets a chance to think about whether they're watching something with merit. A few times I felt myself laugh more so because I was being told to do it rather than because it hit any personal sensitive spots. Nor were the jokes earned by the film itself.

The first act was unbearable because of this. The second and third were good, the back story and romance.

It's doing pretty good during the weekdays too.

Tuesday it pulled 11.6 mil.. not bad for an R-Rated film in February.

‘Deadpool’ Set for $65 Million Box Office in Weekend 2 – Just Like Last Weekend

[..]

“What’s notable is that it blew right past all the ‘X-Men’ openings,” said Bock, referencing the studio’s potent mutant franchise whose eight films have taken in $3.3 billion in global grosses. “There’s not much doubt about who’s driving the bus at Fox now.”

Fox is adding about 100 locations this weekend and will have “Deadpool” in a market-high 3,732 theaters.

Deadpool is one of the best film adaptations of a superhero franchise to date. I hope the sequel delves deeper into the acid trip that is Deadpool's psyche.

Well it's been nearly 4 years since Spirit of Vengeance. So maybe if they can date a Ghost Rider movie for like 2020 that's enough time to pass.

And Lees Hulk was still fresh in peoples minds and it didn't stop Marvel from making another one for the MCU. As long as they do it right, like they usually do, then it could make the character popular again. A badass Netflix series would be just fine with me as well. I just want to see the character done justice, and now Marvel has the means.

Super happy about all this. Word-of-mouth for this film continues to be insane.

I was at the supermarket earlier and I overheard two guys talking about Deadpool. I haven't seen something like this in ages.

So Deadpool is the new Avatar (at least word-of-mouth wise)? :p

Showings at my local cinema went from 5 per day last week to FIFTEEN PER DAY.

I wanted to go see it at the 11pm showing today and it's fucking sold out aside from four seats at the front. What the fuck

Deadpool is the Poochie of superheroes.

TO THE EXTREME!!!!

I'll put it this way. It's by no means a good movie in my book, in fact it might be one of the worst movies I've seen in a long while. But at least it managed to make me a laugh a bunch of times. I'm still pretty disappointed in it and I think I cringed just as many times as I laughed, but I'm not going to be a jackass and claim I didn't laugh. Because lets be honest, I did. Pretty hard a couple times.

Plus seeing some Colossus action was very satisfying since I like that dude but he doesn't get that much attention. But above all else, this movies greatest victory was simply not being Xmen Origins.

Worst movie you've seen in a long time? I'm calling bullshit.

First time I saw the movie with a packed house, full of laughter all the time. Really enjoyed the film.

I saw it again with only one other person in the theater yesterday, and that person didn't make a sound. Gotta be honest, movie didn't really hold up all that well. I still liked it but not nearly as much as the first time. I'm starting to think the crowd was a factor. I also knew all the jokes so that probably didn't help, but I was expecting to like it even more like when I see most other films multiple times.

It is funny how Deadpool is the opposite of avatar. A well made movie based on an existing IP with low budget versus a new IP that is poorly made with monster budget.

Avatar poorly made? Damn there are some gems in this thread.

If you're going to say shit like that, back it up. How is Avatar poorly made?

In every way that involves writing or characterization. It's a generic movie that's barely memorable for anything outside of its visuals and direction of those visuals.

Yup. Worst blockbuster film I've ever seen in my life.

I would love to see the reaction from all the fox executives who thought Deadpool would be a failure, now that it's most likely going to perform much better than every X-men movie.

lmao to hell with those clowns. garbage reviewers. not even gonna click on that one.

nobody can call avatar poorly made. maybe you're not a fan of it's characters and writing that's fine. but cameron is easily one of the most competent directors alive when it comes to setpieces.
Something can be extremely well made in one or two areas and still be overall poorly made when judging the final product. The visuals and direction of Avatar don't make up for how boring and uninteresting that movie is to sit through.

Avatar is the definition of style over substance.

TAJ

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I went on monday with my wife at 4:45 in the afternoon. The theater was more than halfway full. That's a good draw for 4:45 in the afternoon on a monday.

It's difficult to gauge these things. I saw SPECTRE around the same time on a Wednesday four weeks after it opened and it was more than three-quarters full.

Yup I find that weekdays are really hard to guage, I am glad to hear this is doing so well. I want to go again.

You know how screenplays that never made it to production are referred to as "never made" or "unproduced"? Think about that a sec.

Saw it last night and it was great! I was really surprised to see that the showing I saw on a Wednesday night was almost totally full. I expected that on a discount Tuesday but not on a regular Wednesday!

Their accusation is that the film is cynically made, not poorly.

Avatar has a pretty cliche plot and characters, but it isn't poorly made. It is incredibly effective at what it sets out to do. Plinkett's review clearly points that out.

Exactly. That video even shows how meticulous they were with designing elements of the film in a very specific manner so as to illicit certain, innate responses from the viewer.

There is zero chance that Deadpool will fail to hit $300M domestic. It will be close to $250M after this weekend.

The question now is how much higher than $300M does it reach. If it matches or exceeds American Sniper's second weekend of $65M, I would say that Deadpool was on track to take the all time domestic record for a Rated R film (~$371M)
