Is it too early to start fantasy-casting the sequel?

Becuse I just want to put this out there - John Cena for Cable.

As I was leaving the theater, the guy behind me was saying how awesome it would be if Brock Lesnar was Cable.

please ban this person

Listen to Piecake. Ban this filth. John Cena ever comes anywhere near Deadpool I'll burn Fox to the ground.

If Disney's smart, they might want to piggyback off the movie's success and give it an adult animated series on Netflix.

Nah. Deadpool is good in spurts. If you try to do movies and a TV show you're going to have massive overkill. A movie every 2 to 3 years is more than enough.

Just give me my Uncanny X-Force series with Reynolds. That's all I ask.

Are you serious? Im saying there is a big difference between leaving behind a bag of popcorn vs pissing on the floor or leaving dirty diapers in the theatre. I dont think leaving behind popcorn bags behind is a big deal because picking those up is part of their job when they clear out a theatre. Just like when staff picks up garbage at a stadium after a game. It is their job.

First of all, When you have to say something like, "Comparatively, that isn't AS bad..." then it is something you shouldn't do as it is implied that it IS bad.

Second, and so is cleaning up their piss. That IS their job. What, you think that they sign a contract saying "my job is to pickup all the popcorn bags and all the hundreds of candy wrappers on the ground. But PISS is where you draw the line"? No, they are meant to clean up anything that is a "mess" (lets not forget that there are things that they do have to clean up even without all the trash) in addition to making things look good for the next group of people coming in the doors.

Just because cleaning piss is more disgusting than cleaning up a hard to remove smushed Hershey's chocolate that smells like crap, doesn't mean that picking up food is some nice relaxing massage.

And I wouldn't bring up stadiums. People who leave food and drinks there are just animals. Talking about cleaning a theatre is hard, a freaking stadium is some of the most disgusting things I have ever done. So, not really a good comparison at all.

I don't really see how this would be smart. It will always make sense for Disney to put their resources towards the characters they fully own.

If they can't get Stephen Lang as Cable, I'd accept Liam Neeson. Plus you could make some jokes about the (joke spoilers)
fact that Wade mentions the Taken films and how Neeson's character is a bad father
.

It's just a precursor to when Civil War tops BvS ;)
Fortunately, both of us know you won't get the chance to do something so tacky even if you have wasted your time. You could say I saved you from yourself unintentionally. I'm sure you'll remember this in a few years, and thank me silently. It's going to be a touching moment.

I could see a Deadpool cartoon being insanely popular. And it's not like them ignoring Deadpool is gonna hurt the movie franchise.

Just saw this at my little theater in town. This is at a theater that usually only gets kid movies, so I was surprised we even got it. It was PACKED. People actually got up and clapped when it was over too. I can probably count on one hand how many times I've seen that happen.

It's not about hurting Deadpool, it's about helping one of their other brands. If they have someone who could work on a good Deadpool, why wouldn't they instead tell them to write something about another superhero that they own all the rights for?

I think I underestimated the general public's knowledge about comics because of comic book sales. Deadpool comics have been around a lot time, but I really doubted how familiar the general public was with the character. Obviously a whole lot of people not only know about him but were looking forward to a movie about him.

The success of superhero movies is mind boggling. I really thought comics were a niche interest considering how comic sales have declined over the years.

It has little to do with the public's knowledge of comics. Comics are a niche product. It comes down to the high quality of the movie, good word of mouth, and superb marketing (wouldn't be surprised if marketing was 100M+ for this movie).

You're misunderstanding me. I'm not saying they will. Or that they even want to. They obviously don't. I was saying they could if they wanted, and are approaching it already via their Netflix properties.

The guy I was responding to said "Disney can't." Which is bullshit in two ways: 1) Marvel doesn't take creative direction from Disney, Disney leaves them alone to do what they want creatively and 2) Marvel could make R-Rated movies/products if they wanted.

They better. Listen, the netflix series are fantastic, and it's a way to remove the stench from the previous daredevil and punisher movies, as well as introducing newcomers JJ and Luke Cage to the mainstream. I'm okay with them doing that to their more obscure characters or more high risk characters who have been damaged by other companies. However, after they introduce the punisher and give him a couple of seasons, they better have a standalone punisher movie for phase 4 or I will rage.

Marvel must be really happy from the success of deadpool because 1) They will probably get about 10-12% royalty from the gross on it, 2) Another previous niche marvel character (like Ant Man or Guardians) is now more more mainstream, opening up more revenue possibilities on licensing, merch, and cartoon/tv series, and 3) They can now see that a high quality R rated comic book movie will work. Deadpool will probably gross over 500M WW (and possibly over 700M). This opens the possibility for Phase IV for a Blade, Ghost Rider, and - as previously mentioned - Punisher movies.

Just wondering, what's the situation regarding merchandising and animated rights regarding Deadpool? Could Disney say fuck it, we may not get a live action Deadpool series but we can make a killing on merchandise and we can do an animated series to ride on the Deadpool wave.

AFAIK Disney owns everything XMen/FF related outside of live action films and live action tv (they co own those with Fox), so if they wanted they could release merchandise now and release an animated tv series (or even animated movie).

Disney/Marvel did approve the re-release of the Deadpool game on PS4 and put it back on Steam.

Why don't they, they could make it a cross between Rick and Morty and Spider-man TAS.

ok so now that deadpool has smashed the records... what r rated comic movies would you all like to see that are marvel and dc?

Marvel: Blade, Moon Knight, Punisher (no Netflix, but a movie), a proper R-rated Wolverine flick full of cigars, swears, and blood and X-Force.

DC: Animal Man, Swamp Thing, and Sandman I guess? Reboot of Constantine should also be R-rated.

Even I won't touch that one. I have no clue how that's going to pan out. But as comic fans we should be more pleased with the fact that we are getting Deadpool, B v S, Civil War and Suicide Squad all in the same year.

Superhero fatigue, am I right?
And Doctor Strange.

They're probably gonna do a MCU Punisher series on Netflix.

I'm not sure if they care at this point.

Disney & Marvel's logic is that ignoring the X-Men & F4 characters would work towards distancing those characters from the Marvel brand as a whole.

Definitely not.

The marketing was absolutely on point but its only been everywhere on social media - it was good enough to go viral by itself. Sure I've seen ads and posters but it doesn't feel like a usual oversaturated 100m bonaza.

Certainly wasn't 100m, but it did have a Super Bowl ad, so it wasn't chump change, either.

I recall Marvel Animation saying at NYCC 2015 that they had no plans for any future Deadpool appearances in their shows (I might be wrong, it could have been SDCC 2015). Plus, as stated earlier, the X-Men/F4 video game ban is still ongoing.

Huh? Why is there an Xmen video game ban?

Probably because Marvel doesn't want to promote any movie franchise they don't own in any media outside of comics. Which is smart for the most part since they technically should want the FF movies and X-Men movies to fail so they can maybe one day buy the rights back.

Marvel really want to get their shit together and go begging Capcom to make Marvel Vs Capcom 4, X-Men et al.

If they don't, they aren't going to get my £40 and I sense that could spell doom for them financially!

I thought it was because the license expired. It is similar to the case of Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Deadpool bowed to an estimated $135 million this weekend, becoming the first R-rated movie ever to break $100 million in its opening weekend. Already making back its $58 million production budget, the Ryan Reynolds-starring superhero flick sped past all expectations and could earn as much as $150 million over the four-day holiday weekend. That’s more than double initial predictions of about $65 million.

Deadpool also earned the biggest February opening weekend ever and demolished the President’s Day record set by Fifty Shades of Grey, which debuted last year to $85.2 million over three days and $93 million over four.

But if Marvel wanted they would just redo the license and have games made. Seems like they actively don't want Xmen promoted in that way

Deadpool was re-released on current gen consoles 2 months ago isn't it? Besides Lego Avengers (and MvC series), I dont think there's any console title that promotes MCU characters.

Deadpool was made and released on last gen consoles during MCU phase 2 too.

Not sure if it'll ever come to Japan, but I'm happy that this movie turned out to be such a big success. While the character isn't really my jam, I'm happy for Reynolds and I'm excited that the fans seem to have nothing but praise for the movie.
