Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

oh shit it Is out on steam O_o just restarted and there it is wooooo

Is it normal that the install size is 1gb, but the download is only 177MB?

I want to mention the quick start ability right as soon as the game goes to the first logo screen is great. It went straight to load me into a new game with the last character I played as.

Spelunky had that as well, it was a great feature.

Been way too long since I played Spelunky, forgot that it had that. But it's a great feature especially when you want to get in a quick game.

Being able to warp to any teleporter from anywhere on the map is smart. Auto-collecting all coins and such when room is clear is really smart. The guns feels really satisfying to shoot, bullet casings and debris everywhere. Everything has lore, from the guns to the items to the enemies

Yeah, there is a clear attention to detail in the game, it's lovingly crafted, and really smartly put together.

The debris lol

Running over books and seeing pages scattered is awesome. Love the details!

So I thought Nuclear Throne looked cool but tired of it extremely quickly. I enjoyed Issac a ton (even though I think the poop aesthetic is dumb)-- would this scratch that itch more than Nuclear Throne?

If you run multiple monitors, then add '-show-screen-selector'' to launch options, if you want to be able to select a monitor.

I think so. This game is more similar to Isaac in structure than Nuclear Throne.

Is there any persistency I the game, or do you start fresh every death?

Guns and items you unlock get put into the loot pool for subsequent playthroughs, plus you earn a certain currency on each run that you can use to unlock special items and guns, which also go into the loot pool, but other than that you pretty much start fresh each time.

Is there suppose to be a breakable wall in the tutorial? I see a crack in a South wall but at least with hunter no way to break it. Previous southern room has a blocked off West doorway which looked like a room would connect from the cracking the wall.

There are some good design decisions to prevent the game from being tedious - it's like they took a good long hard look at Isaac and thought of ways to streamline certain aspects of it, like the backtracking.

Enjoying the game so far!

Any cool guns so far? Got the Scrambler,
which fires an egg bullet that unleashes little homing baby bullets
, and the Moonscraper,
that fires a big laser that bounces off walls

Got my GMG code and played for about 40 minutes, died twice so far. RNG seemed to like me starting off as I got the Serious Cannon in my first run. Definitely feels like as if Nuclear Throne and Binding of Isaac came together and had a baby - it has the less RNG dependent exterior of the former with focus on maneuveraility and weaponry, while it has the layout and structure of the latter.

In all honesty I still want to say I prefer Nuclear Throne a little more because the faster paced insanity was oddly easy to get behind. In contrast I feel like some of Gungeon's environmental fluff can at times be a wee bit distracting, but although it's slower I don't think it's that much lesser for it - it kind of feels like it had to be, since gimmicks such as table flipping kind of beg for it to be played a little more meticulously. I also love how the dodge rolling is integrated as a universal active ability as rolling is one of my favorite maneuvers in games, and this seems to realize how vital it can be fundamentally. The production qualities here are also staggering, it is a very pretty game with nice feedback going for it.

I'll probably be sinking a good deal of hours into this if it becomes anywhere near as addicting as Nuclear Throne did.

Got the snowball canon as my first gun
it shoots snowballs (duh) that freeze the ennemies.

I quite like the douser, good at putting out the fires that some enemies cause!

Yes, there's a crack in the wall in the tutorial. Use a blank to blow a hole in the wall. In general, blanks can be used to blow open cracks in the wall

I'm going to purchase this game and jump in after work. Really looking forward to playing it as I've had the itch for a good roguelite lately and actually just real last last last boss in Bind of Isaac Mega Satan in the Bind of Isaac yesterday so this might be a good time to transition to something new. Really looking forward to this, hopefully it tides me over well till I pick up Dark Souls 3.

The Barrel has to be the best one I've found so far, it's a gun that shoots little blue fishies.

quoting myself from the steam thread because im loving this game. for those in doubt:

Enter The Gungeon:

- Huge levels that are actually dungeons as opposed to the short arenas that were in Nuclear Throne for example. Locked chests that need keys, altars that I dont know what they do, found a chest that ate 2 special guns and spat out a new gun, store in each level with health or items to buy

- super tight controls, art is among the best 2d pixel art ive seen. Super charming enemy designs. Level design seems great so far Oh and rebindable controls, thank god

- Tons of bosses from the menu screen. Ive seen 4, beat 3. Meta layer with currency you get from beating bosses unlocks new items to populate the dungeons like Crypt of the Necrodancer

- Also like Crypt, you unlock new rooms in the hub from people you save in the gungeon. Ive saved a lady that unlocked the meta layer stuff

- Great soundtrack

- Its quite hard but that was expected from the genre.

edit: currency is sucked to your character when you clear a room so you dont have to go around picking it up, so smart!

- also there are tons of teleports in various rooms so you can easily teleport back to a room you were in, to go to another side path, or do go back and open a locked chest or something. again, so smart

also apparently theres breakable walls too, ack!

Hmmm, I rescued a character that did not show up anywhere in the hub.

It was a
blue bullet guy inside a cage.

Anyone seen this?

I’m not going to confess to you just how bad I am at Enter The Gungeon. But I think it’s testament to the superbly high quality of its construction that I’m not tiring of trying. This is the genre done right, although with an upbeat, uncruel approach that feels atmospherically more reminiscent of Rogue Legacy than, say, Nuclear Throne. It’s very silly in presentation, but very serious in pixel-perfect controls. Goodness knows if it’s good deeper in, but I’m having a brilliant time not finding out.

Tables are useful. Not just for those moments when you want to stop and take cover. You can use them to funnel enemies, or just to temporary block the bullets from one side of the room.

Oh! There is a melee weapon.
A gun called the hunstman, which is a shotgun with an axe attached to it. When you reload it, it swings the axe..

This game is a Rogue-like-heaven!

I never played Nuclear Throne but played a lot of Isaac, Rogue Legacy and Spelunky and i can affirm that Gungeon is a MUST for anyone that enjoyed any of those games. I'm being massacred by enemies and absolutely loving it.

I had a gun that worked like a lightsaber when reloading. It would hit bullets back at enemies. Pretty useful.
