Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

I really enjoy using the sniper, M1 and other "long-range" guns for room clearing, at least on first two levels (my regular haunts). I tend to do better with automatic weapons vs. bosses, really not even sure how much damage the sniper-type guns normally deal out to bosses.

Snipers are very good on bosses, but it all comes down to how good you feel your aim is with those weapons. Some bosses have patterns that are too hectic to take snipes at them reliably so automatic weapons are probably the way to go with those.

The turtle is super Op. I love that little guy

Finally finished. Only got hit once on dragun. Easiest boss in the game tbh lol his attacks are so easy to dodge.

Welp. So much easier then it looks.

I got the Membrane for the first time. Mother of God, so good. Fulled charged Heroine with fat bullets too, dayum. So many good weapons.

I feel like there's a big random factor in the difficulty of floor 5. Sometimes it's springily easy, other times you get rooms that have four hammers and a lead maiden, plus little guys running around.

Compass or grappling hook + ring that fires bullets when you use an active item + banana is fucking hilarious. Doesn't do as much damage as you'd expect, but it's so good.

Gorgun's an easy boss for a few reasons:

1) Predictable bullet patterns

2) Patterns that are really easy to dodge

3) No ads

Basically the thing that are liable to fuck you up on bosses is randomness and there's basically none with Gorgun. All the bullets come from the same spot and they're all easy to avoid.

So far, I think Gorgun might be the easiest boss in the entire game.

Either gorgun or bullet King is the easiest for me. Unless we count gatlin gull in a room with pillars. Canonballrog is pretty easy too, pattern-wise. And since by the time you get there you're likely to have some good guns, that makes him about the level of a floor 2 boss.

It's Bullet Twins for me. It seems like I can usually melt those guys in no time even with shitty weapons.

same.

twins, king, and the bullet snake were the easiest for me. they just kept running into my bullets on their own so i didn't have to try too hard to aim, thus could focus on rolling and dodging.

also: what are the altars for? i dropped a gun at one but nothing happened. still am only able to get to a 3rd boss before dying though. going to work on it more tonight.

I bought this on Ps4 last night and it's everything I'd hoped it would be which is basically The Binding of Isaac with a few minor differences. I love the sound effects, the controls (especially the roll) and the random items and levels. The graphics/sprites could be a teeny bit bigger (Isaac size would be perfect) but it's a non issue really because everything still looks great. Shoot em ups with heaps of randomised features and items are a godsend and I wish games like this would've been around back in the 16bit days. They should really give this treatment to Beat-Em-Ups like Street of Rage (yea I know about River City Ransom but the graphics are just too oldskool for me) and to Metal Slug Games (PLEASE GOD!!!).

Just a couple of questions:

1. Is there any point to destroying all the objects around the room? Like will there ever be any hidden items under stacks of books etc?

2. Are you supposed to leave chests alone if you don't have any keys? I know you can shoot them and very rarely get them to open with an item or more likely a pile of Junk. Just seems a waste to leave the level without opening everything.

Awesome game and will save Dark Souls 3 for the weekend while I play this.

1. Nope.
2. If you finish a floor and have chests left with no keys to open them, then destroy them. Other than junk sometimes you might get half a heart, ammo, keys, or it could be a mimic you didn't notice.

Also the chests have a rarity to them, brown chests aren't even worth using a key on unless you're desperate for an item.

Unless you're in a real big hurry you should always destroy the chests if you don't have a way to open them. I've gotten a gun out of a broken chest before (though not a very good one), and even if you only get junk it's not completely worthless.

This game looks awesome, but user reviews aren't that great. Looks kinda like Hero Siege but with some actual difficulty and hopefully not as many cheesy/buggy deaths. Is that at all accurate?

Edit: What I liked about Hero Siege was that you didn't start from 0 whenever you died. Does this game have any sort of persistent level ups?

I'm starting to believe I might never beat this game. After 17 hours I'm only now starting to consistently get to boss 3. Only got to boss 4 once and was instantly dead by the time the battle started.

I believe getting health upgrades is too hard. If it's not by a handful of items that have less than 1% chance of dropping, you must always kill the bosses without getting hit. And that's so so frustating, since even reaching them take about 15 minutes each. So you stay 15 minutes preparing for the battle only to get hit last minute and restart the whole run. I haven't been capable of consistently getting flawless battles against the bosses. It's a lot better now, but still pretty common to reach Level 3 with only 3 hearts.

Also for a roguelite that runs play for longer than average, using those "first time you're always going to die" traps seems unfitting. For example NT's final boss,
most people are going to get exterminated by the laser on the first try. But that doesn't feel so bad because it takes 15 minutes tops to get there again
. This game though, I really believe by the time I'm done exploring the first chamber I'd be already at the 4th world if I was playing NT.

Perfect, thanks for that because I thought the brown ones looked a bit ordinary.

Yea I only destroyed one and got Junk which said "Use a Key Next Time" so I was skeptical to try it again incase you have to come back to some of these stages.

Thank you.

*Secret side quest Spoilers*

Fun story (and by "fun" I mean "miserable"): I made it all the way to the 4th floor boss room while carrying the
busted TV
so I could give it to
the blacksmith on the 5th floor
. As soon as I entered the boss room, I tossed it into the center of the room and went on with the fight. As soon as the fight was over, I went looking for it but could not find it at all. Triple and quadruple checked and it was nowhere to be seen. So I stepped out of the room for a second in hopes that the rat would come and try to steal it and reveal its location, and I could shoot at him and scare him away. Turns out the item somehow got pushed down to the bottom of the room up against the wall to put it out of my view. By the time I saw the rat, though, it was too late...
"Thanks for the Busted Television, punk!"
.

Nope, you start fresh each time. You unlock better weapon/item drops and there are some side quests to do, but each run you start out with default characters. It's most similar to Binding of Isaac in terms of structure. It plays very differently though

Hopefully we get some good post-release content since it seems to be doing well. More characters, please.

BTW, Steam patch notes say Treadnaught was nerfed in the most recent update. I did fight him after the update and was able to flawless the fight for the first time, but most of that was probably because the explosions from my RPG were destroying some of his bullets. But overall some of his attacks did seem slower and the minions weren't as big a hassle.

Patch 1.0.4

http://steamcommunity.com/games/311690/announcements/detail/970898742400450365

Made key acquisition more reliable
Lowered the difficulty of the Treadnaught (explosive shot now has a minimum range, homing rocket is slightly slower, adds no longer lead their shots)
Added d3d11 support (which may help some players with black screen and map issues)
Fixed an issue where enemies could spawn in unreachable locations
Players can no longer teleport in coop while one player is interacting with a shrine or NPC
Players can no longer be set on fire while ethereal
Increased quality tier of the Fightsabre (less likely to spawn in low level chests)
Fixed an issue where collecting an NPC cell key while it was falling into a pit broke the key
Fixed an issue where the SMASH tent event could be interrupted by enemy gunfire
Fixed an issue where Lost Adventurer progress was not being tracked correctly
Fixed an issue where Gunsling King progress was being tracked twice per success
Fixed an issue where Great Hall progress notifications were popping up everytime the Breach loaded
Starter guns can no longer be used to reveal secret doors (hit VFX is now the normal wall hit effect)

Treadnaught got nerfed

In my 20+ hours I only had the game freeze once, which is still one time too many but that is in stark contrast to how the stable the game is otherwise. There are some bullshit moments like going several floors without getting a decent weapon but that's RNG I guess. For the most part it's pretty fair.

As for persistence, the only thing that carries over between runs are people you free from the Gungeon (which spawn randomly) and the currency you get from defeating bosses. You can use both to unlock more guns and items for item pool for the Gungeon to pull from. Beyond that, you start from square one each time.

Serious question, of all the bosses 3rd floor and below who do you think is harder?

FWIW, I find Ammoconda to be a lot more annoying. At least with Treadnaught you can keep him moving around the exterior of the map with relative ease and maintain some spacing. But I find the snake to be so damn unpredictable. There are probably some reliable techniques to flawless the fight that I haven't picked up on yet, but as of right now I'd say he's more difficult than Treadnaught.

Nice, those minions were the main reason that fight was bs with leading shots coming in from off-screen. I was expecting they would just get rid of the adds, but I guess nerfing both the adds and the boss itself is a more sensible nerf.

Also nice to see they didn't actually nerf the lightsaber but just made it more rare, I always find it annoying to see fun broken stuff getting nerfed so I highly prefer this way of balancing.

I fought him on floor 4, never on 3, weird. I've only fought him once. I wonder why they don't make him a regular floor 3 boss

It can appear on 2, 3 and 4.

The Blobulord isn't inherently hard but if you don't snag a good gun he's tedious as hell. Soooo much health. Probably my least favorite boss in the game.

God damnit, my game crashed going into floor 5. I had 9 hearts and 3 armor and a crazy good arsenal. Feels bad, man. The game has crashed quite a few times (PS4), I hope they iron it out

Whose user reviews? It's 91% on Steam and everyone here loves it. It's a great game if you're into this kind of thing.

As for buggy deaths, haven't really had any. And persistent progress... eh not so much. You can unlock weapons which are added to a pool of weapons you find in chests or from bosses, and you can also unlock shortcuts. Arguably the shortcuts aren't even that helpful though because you start out on a hard floor with no money, keys, or good guns. So it's pretty harsh in terms of starting fresh every time. It took me a while to come to grips with.

I'm so fuckin mad. Had so much health on the forge and the gunpowder and i just couldn't find the anvil let alone the boss before being worn down. Fuuuuuck this

Also treadnaught is so much easier now. Flawlessed him

I brought my PS4 over to a friends house for the weekend. We mostly played Enter the Gungeon and convinced him to buy a copy on Steam.

We need to get as many people to try this game as possible.

Just now, for the first time ever I made it to level 4. I managed to beat boss 1 (Gull) and 2 (Gorgun) without taking a single hit and accrued SEVEN hearts, which allowed me to beat that stupid tank that everyone hates. I died quickly on level 4 but the theme of it is fucking awesome, I loved what I saw.

Really hoping to get that elevator to level 3 repaired, though.

Man this game is so, so, so good. I got it for like 9 bucks and I've put like 20 hours in already. Surprise hit of the year, I hadn't even heard of it until it was released.

As much as I'm enjoying the game, I've got to admit the soundtrack is doing absolutely nothing for me (outside of the awesome main theme). I've even debated playing with spotify on which would be a first for me.

Made it to Treadnaught. On some level a little disappointed I couldnt get to him pre-nerf...on another hand, not really.
