With Paul Carson in DR the Mannequin Torso knocks him to the ground. As he starts getting up you can hit him again and knock him back down. I used this on him in my recent playthrough and beat him in like 10 seconds.
I've tried to just load my game but even then the walking through zombies thing for a 10th time is just frustrating and not a good use of time. I can see why people like this game from a value perspective but everything else seems dated, confusing and just plain padded out.
I just don't think the series is for me. Tried fighting Carlos for a second time and after my third death said fuck this. Even went the other way to the clown fight, dead after drinking creamer 3 times. All the weapons in the game are just crap. I could go on and on. But no point. Just not for me. I can take 3 games off my list now. Yay!
Thanks for the help and advice.![]()
I mean, you're kind of wrong about a couple of things already. Most weapons aren't bad at all; you hardly need to resort to the overpowered stuff (mini-chainsaw + mannequin torso) and so long as you avoid the joke-y ones like potted plants or benches, the majority of what you can pick up is practical or sufficiently strong to beat up zombies. Gems for example are (unexpectedly) one of the best crowd control options in the game and even something like the golf club / hockey stick have their own uses with how potent they actually are. Secondly, aiming firearms in DR1 isn't awful either; unorthodox and RE-esque as it is, being rooted in place isn't an issue at all since the zombie speed is balanced around this fact and the guns themselves are accurate. If it's the controls that bother you, you can change the analog sticks for aiming in the options menu (Arcade mode in one of the settings) and aside from that you just need to choose your position. And besides, why go for over-the-shoulder cam all the time when (if you tap with automatic guns) these projectile-based weapons have some blatant auto-aim assists going for them:I'm not sure if it's so much of modern game design as it is modern game conventions. The game is only 10 years old and doesn't hold up as well as some games that are even older than that.
The aim in the game is awful, the AI is simply infuriating, bosses are bullet sponges. Did I mention the aiming is awful? lol
I think it may be a game that pays off for those willing to invest the time into upgrading the character, but I'm just not willing to do that grind.
I blame all this on Dark Souls. Ever since I beat that game a few months ago my tolerance for some things have hit rock bottom.
Nah, DR3's are the easiest since many combo weapons just stunlock them with minimal effort, plus they only tickle you and hardly fling you around. You're right about DR1's not being particularly challenging either once you figure them out, but at least they comparatively speaking hit like a truck sometimes and can keep you pinned down if you let them.I think the bosses in DR might be the easiest in the series. I think they have the least amount of health and the most obvious patterns. The ones in the sequels tend to use their environments more. This isn't a better or worse thing, though.
I quit
YEESSS! My current play through bugged out and I got to kill the convicts twice in one night. Hell yes I'll take a second heavy machine gun from them! Also for some reason I have 3 mini-chainsaws from the Clown...
It's now almost 3 weeks since launch and DR2 & DR2 OTR are still broken on PS4
Truly awful customer service. Zero fucks given for those on playstation. Last time I bought something from crapcom.
Have they said whether or not it'll be fixed? Did they even acknowledge the issues?

Sorry for the troubles here.
Fortunately, QA and the dev team were finally able to reproduce the problem on one of the public PSN accounts and found a fix for it. They're working on the patch right now.
It turns out the issue was related to a specific PSN account type and under retail environment that was difficult to reproduce on dev network.
Apologies for the longer wait time, but a fix is on its way.
Do note the game can still be played in offline single player campaign as long as the console is disconnected from PSN.
He doesn't like the game, so your suggestion is to do spend 4-6 straight hours completing one of the most tedious achievements of all time?
They're looking into it, but it will take a while to get something ready and go through certification.
Yes, someone from Capcom posted in this thread that a patch is in the works.
I honestly can't decide which one to buy between Dead Rising 2 or Off The Record.
I've owned and played both on the last gen consoles previously, but as far as I can remember the main reason I sold DR2 back then was because I hated how loud it made my PS3 fans run, and so I traded it in and picked OTR up for the 360 later on.
Problem is, while I enjoyed OTR, there were some aspects I was less keen on as opposed to 2, such as the rejigged story and the addition of the jump scare zombies. I can't remember if OTR was meaningfully "improved" over 2.
I guess I prefer 2, but that doesn't have the photography system or the Uranus Zone, and on and on it goes.
I just wanna play some form of Dead Rising 2...
What are the jump scare zombies in OTR?
Worst part is that you can't interact with them beforehand, so you're not allowed to shoot them before they could potentially re-awaken and lunge themselves towards you. I don't recall there being an audio stinger however, having just played OTR last week, but they're absolutely an annoyance in how superfluous and non-threatening of an addition they are. They added in zombies that do stuff like hiding around corners, pretending to be dead, or waiting in bathroom stalls. They play a bizarrely loud audio stinger whenever one is triggered. They're more of an annoyance than anything.
(Incidentally, I still haven't decided which of the two games to buy yet. Still leaning towards plain ol' DR2).

Akimbo handholding.
Exactly, never mind zombie crowds slowing you down to a crawl when you plow through them with a vehicle. What a mess of a game.Oh yea, they stink. And the ran with that even further in DR3. Zombies chopped in half on the ground would still be alive and grab for you. They were so annoying in places where you had to clear out all the zombies. Good luck when the floor was coated.
Actually yes you can kill them before they do anything. I've done it so many times.Worst part is that you can't interact with them beforehand, so you're not allowed to shoot them before they could potentially re-awaken and lunge themselves towards you. Let's go ladies!

Just noticed the carpet in the Americana Casino is the same carpet from the hotel in The Shining. Can't believe I didn't catch that when I played DR2 when it came out.
Nice man, nice.
Congrats, man! That's something I doubt I'll have the patience for.
playing the japanese ps4 version and the convict AI seems broken. the first night they spawned they just sat motionless on the far side of the park. i grabbed sophie and they were nowhere in sight and didn't seem to 'activate' until i found them and got within aggro range. this happened both times i passed through the area.

It's like that on Xbox 360 too. They (very easily) get stuck on trees or poles. Just make sure you don't exit via the Food Court, lest you want them to immediately beeline straight towards you. They sometimes do the same thing for me on PC. Been so long since I played the orig xbox360 version that I can't be sure if they're broken or not.

Fix the fucking game on ps4 crapcom
We are now in week 4 since launch and DR2 & DR2 OTR are still broken on PS4
There's no patch and they completely ignore questions on twitter.

Nice, maybe this'll finally fix the stutter issues I've been encountering. Doubt it's just a problem for GPUs with small amounts of VRAM, considering it happens on my 970, which has more than enough for this game. For those who are interested, a new patch for Dead Rising 1 has been made available on Steam beta branch.
The patch addresses the following:
More details here:
- Background music during helicopter cutscene loops correctly (no gap between repeats).
- Fixed reversed zoom in/out controls during map screen mode. Previously, pressing the analog stick 'UP' zoomed out (and pulling back zoomed in). Mouse scroll direction has also been corrected.
- Additional fix to better recognize DirectInput game pads.
- Mall music now loops in sequence and without repeating the same track.
- Reduced VRAM usage (currently 1,300MB - 1,800MB) that may have contributed to performance degradation for some cards with small VRAM.

The following issues will be addressed for the console SKUs in the coming weeks (still need to QA and submit to platform certification):

- Mall music now loops in sequence and without repeating the same track.
- Fixed reversed zoom in/out controls during map screen mode. Previously, pressing the analog stick 'UP' zoomed out (and pulling back zoomed in).
If that happened on PC we would had multiple threads on gaf already and those youtubers would all jump on ''fuck capcom'' train.
It's only an issue when/if pc version is affected.
And I'm not even talking about poor framerate and other issues that are also there. This is a game breaking issue that you encounter immediately when launching the game.
What's the issue with the game? I have a digital copy of OTR and haven't ran into any problems on PS4 other than framerate issues, is it only happening with hard copies, or is it only happenin to some users?
