Digital Foundry PS4 Pro Launch Coverage Begins

Your taking my quotes as DF's lol.

I was saying that Cerny only mentioned downclocking the components to simulate PS4, which did not account for the advancements in architecture of the GPU or the bandwidth, which would yield passive improvements even at the same clock as PS4.
Hmm, so we could see better framerates even on unpatched games running in base-PS4 mode?
That would certainly help me warm up to this console. Still not a fan of how the extra power is being used by most devs. Why assume that everyone who buy a Pro has been annoyed at the resolution and IQ of PS4 games? Why not just leave it up to the users to tweak the games as they like with graphics settings? We already have a few options to choose from now so it shouldn't hurt the plug-and-play console experience much.

Just responding to a foolish post with a stupid answer. That's what.

I was simply annoyed at the insinuation that game developers not providing an option for an uncapped, unstable frame-rate were somehow lazy or depriving that poster of what they perceived to deserve. It seems disrespectful to me and lacks an understanding of the games being made. When I say "lower standards" I was only referring to someone that is perfectly fine with a wildly unstable frame-rates.

Apologies for the confusion, though. Didn't mean for it to be read in that way.

I had no idea that was sarcasm, sorry. So hard to tell these days..

I don't know where to ask this:

Is this an okay deal from GameStop Germany?
I've got a launch PS4 and some assy games I could give them:

It's an okay deal if they accept your shitty games (they usually have trade-in lists and don't accept everything). I've sold my PS4 (500GB CUH-1116a) on eBay for 185€ (without games and a second controller) one month ago.

Gutted I missed the Amazon deal. After buying PS4 day one and then some great value deals dropping very soon afterwards I know it isnt sensible to buy this straight away. All i want is a game thrown in and I'm good to go, hope they dont sell out while Im waiting

Just buy a PC if you want the freedom to tweak as you please.

What Amazon deal?

I had my Pro preordered and emailed Amazon after the deal on Dishonoured 2 expired and after a bit of back and forth they emailed me a code to get £20 off it and another code to get £12 off COD.

Putting a 'u' in 'Bloodborne' is just plain wrong no matter whose English you're speaking. It describes something that is 'borne' (as in the past participle of 'bear') through 'blood' (a disease, for example). 'Bourne' is only ever used in names.

I really hope that DF help everyone with their TV settings. The whole HDR thing is a bit of a mess judging by the number of TV threads etc.

I'm really disappointed in what I'm hearing about the Pro.
If I want one then now is the time to do it since I'll probably never get a better deal if I sell my PS4 now.

I just don't know if it's worth spending £200 for these minimal upgrades (at 1080p).
I've been looking at pictures supposedly showing off the differences on a 1080p TV and I can barely see a difference. Bit sharper? Is that worth £200 for me?

Why do you even bother with upgrading if it's not worth it? Some people love supersampling/downsampling (I use it on PC all the time to downsample from 1440p to 1080p when streaming via Steam). If you don't, stick with your normal PS4 for the games.

Are you viewing the comparison images on whatever device you'll play the PS4 on? Because the typical TV is larger than the typical PC display, so the difference may be much more noticeable.

Those lists are for the 9.99er offer.
Trade-In like that is a bit different. Allthough, I bet they give you a shitty reason not to accept something when you have Evolve/Battleborn as games :P

Looking at pictures on your phone isn't helping. Otherwise stick with current your PS4 if you are satisfied. Don't feel obligated to buy one.

So are we just calling the checkerboard rendering technique 4k now?

First : I think he is talking about 4k tv.
Second: where in the hell he said anything about checkerboard looking native 4k?

Its not native 4k , for a ll we know , but it doesn't stop it to look good on a 4k tv.

This isn't a PC. Its a console that is a half step measure, giving PC like upgrades to existing games on a developer priority basis.

If that isn't to your cup of tea, you don't have to buy it.

This is not a new generation. This is a PC like upgrade using the same assets and games as PS4. This will be true for Scorpio as well to XB1.

No one should have expected anything different besides a refinement of the base experience. Again, Sony are anticipating people like yourself not seeing the appeal, and staying with OG. That is why the investment into the thing is generally not that much.

Translated from Japanese so I don't fully understand it but are they saying that all the new features from Polaris & Vega are disabled when in PS4 base mode?

http://www.4gamer.net/games/990/G999024/20161103002/

I don't see how they can shut off each and every feature of Polaris and vega that keeps the GPU functioning as it does, just by turning off half of the GPU and lowering the clock speeds.

That might be the case, but its still strange to think about.

They had console and dishonored 2 for 350 yesterday, tesco pricematched but they sold out really quick
If you have an Amazon pre-order they sent discount codes to grab Dishonoured 2 separately for £20 on top of the £330 console cost they did earlier.
Is Dishonoured worth it?

Polygon told us not to preorder it, but we all have because Amazon offered it to its for £18. If you liked the first game, and unless they've completely fucked it up, it's probably worth the outlay

I think you're right. Would like the opportunity to actually test it on my TV.

Exactly the same for me. I'll cross my fingers for both of us. Surely a deal or two will appear at some point soon...

I never played the first game is why I ask. Already grabbed some VR stuff and some games that are getting patches (UC4, R&C) but I was looking for more. Maybe I could also finally play The Last of Us. (email mentioned a free copy of that as part of the deal)

This is going to really good, isn't it.

Now please have real engine sounds in your game, Kaz.

I guess you can take this with a grain of salt right now

I took a GT3 BMW M6 - the same one driven by Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi at this year's 24 Hours Nürburgring - around Brands Hatch for a short hot-lap session. At first, it was a bit disheartening - using the bumper cam, the engine note still sounded hollow and weak, even over a pair of headphones that muffled the noise of a busy event.

Switching to the cockpit cam, though, reveals a very different dynamic - there, the transmission whine is more overpowering, and unlike the digital drone of past Gran Turismo games it at last feels like you're inside a complex, noisily mechanical piece of engineering.

Switch to the chase cam and you can hear the exhaust note more clearly and hear it pop and wheeze - suggesting that Gran Turismo Sport is extremely context sensitive when it comes to representing audio. Elsewhere, a replay featuring a bevy of prototype cars displayed a diversity of engine notes, from the turbo diesel whine of an R18 to the throatier V8 of the Toyota TS030.

This was Martin's impressions during the initial unveiling of GTS back in May

Even more disheartening, it's hard to hear the difference. I tried some of the noisier cars available in the current build, and the GT3 458 Ferrari droned rather than screamed, the Corvette whined rather than rumbling the earth as it does in real life.

I didn't know HDR needed such efforts.

Huh. What is this? Never heard about it? Are such TVs available or should we wait for enxt year? Will GT Sport support HDR with Dynamaic Metadata?
