over 60% of respondents on this gaf poll say they will buy a midgen refresh... 61.6% to be exact. An additional 11.5% think there is a need for them but don't think they'll buy one... depends on details these people could very easily end up buying one as well. That's 73.1%
It's clear core gamers will upgrade and will do so in large numbers and then you'll have gamers in general who ask themselves if they want to build a PC and how much that PC is going to cost compared to a PS5 Pro for the same deliverables.
Console generations used to be 5 years, now that they're extended, mid gen refeshes have become significantly more important.
PS1 to PS2 was 5+ years
PS2 to PS3 was 6+ years
PS3 to PS4 was 7 years and the PS3 was EXTREMELY dated, which lead to a rise in PC gaming
PS4 to PS5 was another 7 years and had the pro refresh
PS5 to PS6 is probably going to be 8 years making the refresh even more important
You either have to have shorter life cycles or you need mid gen refreshes and with how long it takes to develop games and the diminishing returns on new generations, it doesn't make sense to shorten the cycle, if anything it needs to be lengthened
