What is happening!

Hopefully (and what we're seeing from big producers and developers backing away from these scenarios) the last of this short of dialogue.

This is full-blown anymore and not a subtle take with these type of games. Thankfully these developers are showing their intentions with these games. This way, you just don't need to buy or support it since it doesn't align with interest. When these titles fail and there isn't a profit in it, the producers will realize it's a failed narrative and not good for business.

Let the people that these games are targeting support it, and just a guess, they won't be supported since it's small group of people that most likely don't play video games or causally game and ask for easy mode.

Games are meant to escape reality, not have to deal with the issues of the world and be a relaxing hobby.

I remember being interested in Balder's Gate 3, but read up on some of the characters, and some of the scenarios. Needless to say, it read like fan fiction for a younger generation.

Spider-Man 2 has you playing as lame-ass Miles Morales, hooking up two gay dudes to go on a date WHILE VENOM IS ATTACKING THE CITY LIKE A FUCKING ALIEN INVASION, as well as other meaningless shit with Miles, such as music quests (although I like the Wu-Tang reference), playing as a somehow uglier Mary Jane, who has a "gun" that is more powerful than Miles, Peter, and Insomniac Venom, aka Harry O., combined, yet it seems convenient that all of Sony's transgressions, and Sony's contributions to this current state of the video game industry, get swept under the rug.

First, I don't describe as an attack what we are doing, it's just criticism of things we dislike, second, Spider 2 did suffer a backlash from fans, maybe not as prevalent, and I do think that a lot of fanboys gloss over the issues with that title. But a lot of us were very vocal about the issues with spider 2, and it's funny that, to me, the hookup gay mission is so minor that I don't even care, what is atrocious about spider 2 is how they depict characters like Peter Parker and Mary Jane.
Unfortunately, Sony studios are not safe from the woke ideology, after spider 2 even me, a long fan of these studios and franchises are no longer pre-ordering these games, I'll wait for the reviews, just like the rest.

Yeah no way it's doing well lol. Perhaps not a flop but definitely not well or even okay at the moment. If they announce a 3 million copies sold within 1 week of launch then that would still just be in the okayish level for a big expensive western rpg. And even then it might still end up being a sales disappointment at the end if the legs are bad. Just look at a FFXVI where it got 3 million copies sold within 1 week but due to bad legs, it still wasn't considered a big or decent hit later on. With Veilguard's peak CCP being more than 2x less than Dragon's Dogma 2 and even Dragon's Dogma 2 was just at a okay sales level after months. It's obviously this is nowhere near well.

I had a quick browse on the "other forum" and was not surprised to see there is not a single poster who has levied any legitimate criticism for the bland characters and writing in this game. Presumably Veilguard is considered their darling as it's the game for the pronoun brigade

Honestly the most jarring part is that they didn't even try to take these ideas and integrate them into the context of a fantasy world.
You have games like Metaphor or FFXVI where concepts like racism and slavery are a big part of the story, but you don't have them displayed in a way that feels like the dialogue and codex entries come straight out of modern day Twitter and Reddit. You don't have Clive going "Jill, I've checked my white privilege and come to realize that #silenceisviolence"

There are examples out there of LGBTQ representation that is subtle and fits within the game world / story and does not break immersion:

• Cyberpunk 2077: Judy had a thing for Evelyn. It is hinted at in subtle ways, not rubbed in our face.
• Last of Us 2: Yes this forum hates this game for several reasons but Ellie's relationship with her girlfriend is largely in the background, it is the revenge story which is the central focus; there is also a trans character - Abby's sidekick Lev - but again, his trans status is not overtly mentioned again and again.
• Horizon Forbidden West - Burning Shores: There is a lady who subtly flirts with Aloy a few times, and at the very end of the story, you can choose to kiss her or not. Subtle enough for me, does not affect the story or my immersion in the game.
• Baldur's Gate 3: Aylin and Isobel, it is a bit in your face........for about 2 minutes of a 100 hour playthrough, and then never talked about again. Then there's that male gnome tied to the windmill who is gay for another male gnome, it is only hinted in a couple of dialogue lines which i caught and i inferred this.

So yea, it is possible to do inclusivity in fictional worlds without it feeling preachy.

Agreed, just purple folks in sheep's clothing with most of them. And yeah it definitely got pushed back especially this year with flops or below expectation ones from them like Unknown 9 Awakening, Kill the Justice League, Flintlock, Star Wars Outlaw, Concord, Dustborn, Veilguard etc.

Even if it does have this shit in it, it should be a whole lot better since it's more about side quests, exploring, and modding for ES game with less focus on story especially since they don't do cutscenes. So less in the face compared to whatever the hell Veilguard is.

I do hope it'll have less especially now that resetera is on suicide watch with what just happened XD. Maybe more games will start turning over to a more sane level again now. This year already had a huge amount of pushback against these kind of disgusting woke typed shit with tons of their games flopping. And many of the non woke games succeeding massively. I looked, too, and actually there was. But it was quickly overlooked and only picked up by one or two people kind of brushing it off with "that's simply the new BioWare style", implying it's not inherently bad.

Personally, I wouldn't start that conversation there, too. It's like walking on egg shells. One false move and you're the one "pulling a barve" (I still can't believe this whole scene... and I grew pretty numb over the last years in that regard) with self-punishment to atone for your sins against humanity.

I have a friend who works in the mental health services in the UK, and has informed me virtually all of his trans patients have notable pre-existing mental health problems. Ellie being lesbian is a tired old trope that any 'strong independent woman' cannot have a male love interest and must be gay (see Aloy, and the new Tomb Raider show on Netflix). Furthermore it would be a counterproductive effort to repopulate the Earth. I don't mind Ellie as a character mind you - I would prefer to have played TLOU 2 exclusively as her versus Abby.

To be fair, she was already probably back in 2013 when they wrote her for the Left Behind dlc (maybe even earlier depending on when the writers made that decision). I think back then it wasn't as overused and an actual trope as it is today.

Ellie was a well-written character, and she was a lesbian from day one. It was SUBTLE, and that's only possible with good writing, unlike today. Her being gay was a novelty, too.

In TLOU 2 she's grown so there are love interests, too. I don't find anything egregious, it's not comparable to Spiderman 2 IMO.

The biggest lore mistake that none talks about is pregnant Mel going out scavenging. That's impossible in a post-apocalyptic society, more so in one run by the military. It's fucking stupid and motivated only by ideology or plot convenience, which is equally bad.

I can't agree on this one. Lev's whole story is insane: she thinks she's a boy because of a trauma response to an arranged marriage. The game just takes that at face value and is like she's a boy now, and then has her kill her cultist mother offscreen for not accepting her gender identity lol

Preachiness could had been done for 50 years in gaming.

D&D has had female characters but typically not a lot, and races that are short and ugly from the beginning like gnomes, dwarves, halflings.

If you think about it, someone could had been preachy about women's rights, representation and how about not dumping on short ugly characters with big noses or hairy feet.

But nobody cares. It's just a game.
