Ghost of Yotei launches October 2

Hopefully the main character will feel like the Ghost of Yotei and not the Ghost of wokegay. So far the trailers don't really impress me, but Sucker Punch is one of my favourite developers so I have high hopes.

Makes sense. The original was a successful IP. Naturally Sony wants to immediately kill off the male character and replace him with a lesbian.

While they are visually consistent and quite similar in closeups and cut scenes, there is wayyyy more visual complexity in the sequel. They don't seem to be doing anything on the RT front, but I'm not sure to what extent it is needed when the artstyle is this good.

GoT looks excellent when you are riding amongst the fields. They pulled off some magic with the grass rendering in short to medium range for last gen. But outside of that, the game is entirely carried by its art.

To add to that, if I may, in regards to the gameplay of which we get to see a brief taste of combat. She uses two other weapons, one's a spear and the other is like a flail or morningstar. We've already seen from the reveal trailer there's also guns. On top of that it seems the wolf is your companion and I think the trailer suggests it will assist her in combat. So saying the gameplay looks indistinguishable from Tsushima is pretty asinine/ignorant.

You didn't play the first game.

Hmmm, then what this platinum is doing on my profile?

I don't think this is the next gen jump we wanted.

Yeah there's definitely more depth as GoT was sorely lacking on that front, even though the gameplay loop was tight and fun. But there is the concern that more may not make it better. Like forbidden west. Hopefully they nailed it.

Assassin's Creed Shadows has really spoiled me as I basically felt nothing from the trailer. Of course it looks excellent but it feels like the bar has been raised already this year.

Love how I gave you zoomed out examples and your response is to zoom in :P

What are you pointing out though? Lighting quality could look better. The rest looks fine, albeit compressed?

GoT lacking in depth? how exactly?
Enemy variety and encounter design variety was very limited. So in terms of strategy, it was just a matter of matching the stance to enemy type. If not for the duels, the gameplay would have gotten old real fast. It felt good, sublime even, but was extremely repetitive.

Midnight Murder Club (March 13, 2025)
MLB The Show 25 (March 18, 2025)

Days Gone Remastered (April 25, 2025)
Lost Soul Aside (May 30, 2025)
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (June 26, 2025)
Marathon (September 23, 2025)
Ghost of Yōtei (October 2, 2025)
Convallaria (TBA)

PlayStation Studios' cadence this year is as good as last year's. I think Convallaria (actually confimed for this year) will be for July or August.

This list is like Hal's pancakes in Malcolm in the Middle. The best games are about as good as last years, but my god there is a ton of dogshit in there. Midnight Murder Club is the definition of mid, yearly sports games are 💤, and Convallaria and Lost Soul Aside aren't worth the crust on my underwear.

I would only consider Death Stranding 2, Marathon and Ghost of Yotei as viable games - broadly an equivalent year to 2024's Astro Bot, Helldivers II and Rise of the Ronin, then.

I don't know, I think the game had plenty of options with the perks and gear, specially the charms, also the sub-weapons. I loved making the enemies attack each other and also having them all vomiting all over the place. It didn't lack variety to me.

Gameplay looks decent, but it's far from a leap from the last one. I wouldn't even call it PS4.5 level, maybe 4.3 at the most. Where's my other .7 in console generation?

Serious question — how do PC ports down the line affect the way games are hard-coded for consoles?
Nixxes mentioned in an interview that porting Ghost of Tsushima to PC was a headache.
They had to rewrite a lot of code, which is probably why things are more streamlined now.

Game won't be native 4k anyway so don't expect pristine image quality.
Every single Sony game this gen aside from Returnal has had a native 4k mode.

DF has not found any reconstruction artifacts in either Death Stranding 2 or Ghost of Tsushima 2 so its likely they are both native 4k as well.

Oh how the tables have turned. Imagine if you told me 6 months ago that AC Shadows would have been the game with the more attractive female protagonist, better graphics, and innovative open-world features such as the season system.

I trust SP so I'm sure this game will be good, but man the marketing team is really making it look boring as fuck and it is hilarious how similar the plot is to Shadows. The game doesn't look much better graphically than GoT and I don't know what the hook is. Guns? Not very exciting compared to building on the stealth and diegetic open-world features they set up in the first game. Funnily enough if they had just done GoT2 they would seemingly be in a much better position.

Native 30fps modes? I forgot that 30fps modes even exist, lol. But yeah, you are righ.

You think game is being limited by PC?

It just makes sense to me that Sucker Punch would keep things simpler if the porting team had a tough time with the first release.
That's not really about PC specifically — it's more likely that Sony wants to streamline things to save on costs.
But hey, I don't know . Just a thought.

I am not impressed with its graphics either tho.

I feel like they are just doing away with some of the things that made GoT unique. There was just the one melee weapon that you upgrade throughout the whole game, but the combat was super tight as a result. I can't imagine they'll be able to replicate that with multiple different weapons.

Part of GoT's charm was its simplicity and sort of minimalistic approach to design. Yotei just feels like another AC game, they are trying to add more stuff to market all the new features but to me it's just putting me off from wanting to play this game more than anything.

This looks freakin terrible for a PS5/PS5 Pro native game!

Where is the improvement over the first game? I dont see any improvement that I would consider noteworthy! Maybe a bit higher draw distance ...wtf Sucker Punch?

Pathetic

It's a bad trailer. They need to learn from kojima and do bigger 10 minute trailers with gameplay sequences that last more than a second.

The story and acting in this game will absolutely destroy Ac shadows even if the graphics and gameplay are weaker.

Sony really wants to spend no money on marketing and just hope all their games go viral. We'll see how that strategy goes.

Sony has no idea what it is doing lately.
Spending no money on graphics either by the looks of this trailer ..

Art style does not equal graphics ..they havn't even tried this looks exactly like the first game despite being developed for a new generation of hardware including the Pro ....very disappointing
