As a PC gamer who has only got to play PlayStation games since they started coming to PC, the intense Ghost of Tsushima love mystifies me. Most of the PlayStation games are good but somewhat overrated in my experience, but this one is just insanely overrated. It's the PlayStation game I bounced off the quickest - including Days Gone, which I actually finished even though I ended up not liking it much.

It's just a bog standard 'play 10 hours you've played the whole thing' open-world game with repeatable activities that soon become deathly boring. The visuals were pretty but in a very kind of deliberate way that felt artificial. The main character was a wet noodle, typical modern male character who gets mostly ordered around by everyone around them, including a whole bunch of typical girlbosses., stopping only to show off his ass every now and again. I can't even imagine playing through that whole game. So yeah, you could say I'm not too hyped for the sequel lol.

If not complete garbage, all exclusive console games are overrated and overhyped. Even timed 3rd party ones.

Good but overrated is the perfect description for many Sony exclusives. I still plan to play the original Ghost (and the sequel), but have bounced off twice so far. Same with Last Of Us - I want to like them, but struggling.

Highly derivative, particularly Ghost - they definitely played Origins and Odyssey a lot (both of which I love)…

I'd rate the majority of Ubi open-world games I've played above GoT - especially the older ones that still have badass main characters.

I've been a fan of most AC games, but personally I think GoT takes that Ubisoft formula and elevates it beyond what Ubisoft has been able to do. I think a lot of it has to do with setting though. Sucker Punch did a fantastic job highlighting the culture of Japan as well as the fantastic environments. I can't really say the same about Ubisoft's games. They do a good job recreating the region, but then they create caricature characters based on it's history like Da Vinci and Socrates that have me cringing most of the time.

But to each their own. Not every game is for everyone.

Loved Tsushima. But female protagonist in a game like this puts it at the bottom of my list. Don't give a shit if it's woke or not, I just don't get into it as much. Will pick it up during a sale down the line. Looking forward to multiplayer.

Wait so this games lead is voiced by Godot's community manager? :messenger_fearful:

Ngl I gave them the benefit of the doubt at first just for using a woman character. It wasn't historically accurate in Jet Li's HERO when a badass woman blocked hails of arrows with her sleeves and some qi, but it was cool so I didn't care. No reason a woman can't be in a game like this unfortunately it would only happen to pander of course. Oh well it's joever guys.

So it’s assassins creed? Genuinely asking because own it but haven’t played yet. Heard so many good things about it was excited for the Pro to play it

I don't see how some of y'all have an issue with a female protagonist. You haven't even played the game yet. Makes no sense...

I love all types of characters, so no issue there. The video posted was to add to the thread's discussion.

I don't know which GoY thread was best to bump with this so I took a shot.

I honestly switch off the second I hear a game is open world now. Just means it's going to be full of padding.

it is very similar to assasins creed. Better than Valhalla but not as good as Odyssey imo.

Outrage farming. Game isn't even out, so no one has a clue what the story is or if it's pushing any agenda. Prejudging and getting offended at any slight, just like era.

It's insane. Others call it outrage marketing too. It's all the rage now. It's the only way some influencers and known rich people know how to get people on their side. They have to enrage people first, then ask them to join their newsletter or subscribe.

I'm always up for another Ghosts, but.....

Why are they essentially rebooting the protagonist? Jin's position at the end of the first was a perfect set-up for a banger sequel, with a fine roster of well-established, likeable and developed characters, and a storyline that was prime conducive to whatever direction they were to decide upon heading with Jin's ostracization from the Shogun. What gives?

.....and "Ghost"? Is there to be another Ghost? Seems a bit redundant to tread the same narrative that granted the moniker, to claim this character a ghost is to already expose the plotline that warrants it.

This doesn't strike me as all that sensible. I've no trouble with a female protagonist, but I'm a bit bewildered at the abandonment of such narrative potential previously established and built upon.

I'm not that hyped. Tsushima was, idk, fine? Don't get me wrong, the scenery was beautiful. But that's about it. Combat wasn't really engaging, other than that there wasn't really much exciting to do do. Worst of all is though that both the story and the characters sucked really big time. I guess you could salvage that plot with different characters, if they each weren't the least likeable versions of them. Seriously, it's been months since I played this (when it came to pc) and the main things I basically remember are that woman who sounds like she's always in great pain and jin who looks and sounds like he got recently lobotomized.

I was actually pretty glad when it was finally over, I don't think I bothered too much with the DLC, since there was something very stupid at the beginning (magic?) that directly put me off. I don't know if I'll try this one, depends if they step up the writing/and or gameplay. That actress they got for the protagonist doesn't exactly inspire hopeful expectations in that regard.

Played Tsushima, will play Yotei — but probably not until there’s an inevitable complete edition with all the DLCs, just like I did with Tsushima.

Super hyped. I don't care if you are playing as a chick as long as the story is good and character motivations/dynamics are strong. Seems like she is on a revenge mission hunting down a bunch of animal themed Ninjas or something, and the Shogunate is in turn sending hunters after her. Sounds like something out of Lone Wolf and Cub!

Looks gorgeous, loved the first game. I hope they can make the side missions feel a little more like Witcher 3, lots of variety and funny scenarios along with tragic ones. I liked the side missions in GOT, especially liked that they each had their own title card, but too many of them were some boring/poorly animated NPC being like "The Mongols took over my farm/distillery/tannery" and then you just head over there and kill them all and report back.

Was it? he's being chased by the Shogun, he isnt going to fight them, they are still his people they just didnt like the way he dishonourably dispatched the Mongols but in that time he did what he had to do. So what is a sequel going to be? pure stealth trying to avoid all Shogun contact? I dont think that would make a very exciting game.

The second game was always going to be a different Ghost, Jin's story is done, we already knew this. Now whether they could have done a story based around another character from Tsushima for the second Mongol invasion, then, maybe? but people would still whinge its not Jin. Think of the Ghost as just telling stories of unknown (fantasy) hero's of Japan, it's not really that much different to Assassins Creed in that respect which is perfectly fine as far as I am concerned as it means we do get to visit different places, different time periods, different enemies, it keeps the game fresh. (and how could this possibly tread the same narrative as Tsushima? different protag, different time period, different part of Japan, different enemy as I previously said)

There is nothing stopping them from jumping around time periods so they could go back to Tsushima at some point (probably not though, not a lot to say there)

(and I'm hyped, successor to my fave game on PS4, and some of the clips in the trailer are from gameplay, admittedly not much, but looks like more GoT which is fine by me)

I try not to get hyped. More Ghosts of Tsushima is cool. I’ll try to not think of modern politics. I’ll try my best.

If you enjoyed the first one there is no reason not to play this. It looks epic, I hope it turns out to be epic.

Tomb Raider series is great and was always about having a strong female protagonist. That has never been a problem before, you know when women were well, women.

So we must enjoy the game (I didn't enjoy the first game, but that's besides the point) and ignore any intolerant propaganda they would try to feed us? And there are actually reasons to be cautious about this one.

Gameplay for Ghost of Tsushima was mediocre, especially the infiltration. Animation were not good, Sekiro is running over it.
And let's not talk about AI which was laughable but it's the case in almost every game.

I still can't get over the fact that silent assassination from a rooftop are entirely automated with a single button. It speaks volume about the casualization of the gameplay in this industry.
The infiltration in Tenchu (from almost 30 years ago...) is still more enjoyable than this shit.

If they do not make changes to the gameplay (they probably won't), then I won't bother.
