Ghost of Yotei |OT| Jin there, done that

the game is noticably harder than the original, like by a big margin.

Nice to play.
Yeah this. On hard that tutorial boss was actually challenging. Gutted Atsu a couple of times. Too bad for him I just beat the Last Judge in Silksong last night and Im locked the fuck in. Went down in the next try.

Really enjoying my 2-3 hrs of gameplay so far. Agree with some other comments that the videos that at least I viewed prior to release did not do the game justice at all. Really a gem in terms of looks - a stunner (PS5pro).

About 3.5 hours in... Not enjoying this one nearly as much as Tsushima and I just replayed it 100% like 2-3 months ago.

I'm really disappointed by the map structure. Knowing that you can't go to any of the hills or mountains constantly on screen constantly is just brutally disappointing. There are no go zones all over the place and it's a massive bummer. I know "See that mountain? You can go there!" gets memed on a lot but this is "See that mountain? You can't go there... Or that mountain... Or that one...". This feels like a regression to some PS3/ 360 era open world design where there were technical limitations. I also just feel misled by the marketing showing all these valley and mountain shots now that I know they're unexplorable.

The game also just seems really unfocused. The card / spyglass system sounded interesting but in practice it's just a cluster of the same interaction activities (Hot springs, fox dens, shrines, etc) and a metric fuck ton of campfire spots in an open field. Skill points have also been turned into shrines (Painful groan). The experience could improve but I just felt like I was doing a lot of busy work so far. This could possibly be on me for not immediately rushing to the next zone to tackle another of the Yotei six but that doesn't feel right 3 hours in?

The story has also been lacking so far. At least in the original game the early side quests the game set you on started to flesh out the main story and Jin's conflict between being a samurai lord and being the ghost. So far in Yotei I've just gotten story beats of childhood memories and revenge over and over again. I'm really hoping the game has more to offer than that as it continues.

Okay, now that's an awful shame. I was always under the impression that all of this beautiful mountains and distant scenes were locations I could travel to, BOTW style.
That's really put me off now.

There is always gatekeeping.

Either you don't have enough stamina, or are low level etc. Thats how most open world games offer progression.

That said, from videos I am liking some open field visuals. But player is mostly just running through them. Not enough fun in my books.

Do enemies have harder pattern to read? Not asking for the 20 hits combo with 50 pauses inbetween to throw you off of elden or lies of p, but do they have less predictable moves ala rise of the ronin that had human enemies with patterns all over the place.

Tsushima was the only game that make me feel good about parries because enemies had normal, realistic, predictable attack patterns, did they "fixed" this?

People are saying combat feel harder so i'm wondering if harder patterns are one of the reason.
Having watched so many videos, it seems the enemy animations have changed quite a bit from yesterday after the day 1 patch. They are all blended well with smooth transitions, and feet not floating above ground or sinking under. Hard to tell RT improvements with the garbo streaming quality.

Can't play till tomorrow. Aaaargh!

I saw a video where i think i noticed an enemy getting hit many times and changing his stance into a wounded one where he was clear he was hurt, did i imagined this? I don't think i saw that in the promotional material before.

I wasn't focused on the video so i only saw it with peripheral vision, that's why i'm not surel

Picked up this baby today!

Dual wielding is surprisingly fun. The game started off slow and it kinda sucks that I have no interest in the story but the combat is very good.

Also the game looks astonishingly good. Very crisp on RT pro.

Over 6 hours in and absolutely loving it. Dual katanas fucking rule. I like how stealth seems deprioritised as it was easily the weakest system in GoT. I really like how they expanded random activities now with additional bits of story attached, it does feel like rework of core tsushima bit wit additional depth.

My hype for legends 2 is literally through the roof

What do you mean?

There hasn't been a single case where the game gave me a task or tutorialized stealth in any way so far. Perhaps it's still coming but just like GoT going from standoff to open combat feels so much better to play.
Even in tsushima you wait a bit before stealth is even a thing because jin has his samurai honor if i remember well.

P.s. but yeah not a 6 hours wait.

I'm taking my sweet time, doing all side activities in the area... There is obviously a stealth skill tree with dual assassinations and all that jazz, but that's about it for now.

I'm getting my ass handed to me by a fucking bear...

ayooo-dog.gif
Maybe it is possible but those bears are wide and before you can dodge roll (requires one skill point) it is really really hard to avoid the ramming attack with just the normal dodge (no roll).

Someone should sit the entire SIE marketing department down and make them watch someone play this game.

Fucking malpractice the way they handled the marketing for this game.

Just started this morning played about 2 hours and really impressed with the presentation, graphics and sound.
I wish we could control FOV and even on the Pro I think the image is a bit soft has some artefacting on it, its not as sharp as I was expecting.

Just had an awesome duel and then got jumped by 3 more enemies right after. Dual katanas are amazing. I went back to Ghost right before this and it's insane how much better the combat is here. Had me shaking my head. Maybe that game has better screenshots, but fuck this game is miles better overall. Ubisoft needs to hire someone competent for their next game.

Ronin_7 Ronin_7 you can turn that off. Press R3 to cycle views on horseback.

What happened to Sony marketing man. I still remember ps4 days, especially back in 2016 and the god of war 2018 reveal. They used to be masters at marketing.

Lazy and cost cutting. I can pretty much guess the conversation around this one.

"Game has a built in audience from Tsushima. Which was critically acclaimed and sold a lot. So most of our work is done already. Let's just make sure we keep putting out clips on social media leading up to release so people know when they can buy it."

Also means pre-order was strong. Which is another reason to not pre-order games more than a day or 2 out. Especially if you're buying digital.

But yeah, they don't appear to know how to generate hype at all.

My read so far is the average number of enemies has gone up and the chance that one gets a hit in while you are not paying attention seems much higher. Aggression was higher too. The actual damage and readability seems about the same. Some of them do have extremely quick attacks. And it seems many switch weapons. I did notice the first boss being quite unpredictable, but ultimately not too hard as most moves were blockable.

Got a video? I've been sticking to very early gameplay so I don't get spoiled much

Especially with Miike mode on and no indicators for ranged attacks. Aggressiveness is up as well. I am being attacked in the back way more than in GoT. And I just finished it so it's fresh in my mind.

I decided to have a brief try on my lunch break and completed the intro and the initial home part, then trotted around the plains for a short time. It's a decent intro that throws you into the game.

The one thing that struck me immediately (once past the intro) was how different it looks visually from GOT. Distant forest areas look a lot more dense and realistic (distant scenery has a much softer look than in GOT, but I quite like it) and the flatlands are much more detailed with flora. Seeing the herd of horses and flocks of birds everywhere reminds me very much of BOTW. There just seems to be a lot more going on.

Barely scratched the surface, but I like what I'm seeing so far.

Glad to hear it. Gonna grab my copy later this morning.

Seems Playstation has undersold some of their games this generation and especially ones with Pro support.

Holy shit.....the game was shipped from Gamefly already. I figured it would be a while

RRzHHHxqxxtwyK5g.png

They've been pretty good about shipping new games a day before its street date and last couple of months I've always gotten games in 2, 3 days flat too. They're often delivering shit faster than Amazon.

GF has been great lately for me.

I didn't even have the game "Game Locked". It was at the bottom of my queue. So very surprising. Shipping times have been 4 or 5 days for me so I'll get it sometime next week.

No it was background noise while i was doing something else, i don't remember who it was or what it was...

First time riding the horse, you jump into that open clearing and it's like "BAM" PS5 flexing its muscles.

I think graphics are getting to the point where they often don't translate super well into YouTube or streaming because of the compression and it's hard to appreciate the (admittedly dwindling) improvements...but they are improvements nonetheless. Tsushima was a great looking game and this has a level of depth and presence that just blows me away.

The idea of having each weapon type locked behind every boss questline is interesting and all but I don't know about its execution.

If you decide to just progress through one boss at a time then you'll find yourself grinding away at enemies just because you still don't have the correct weapon type...

But then if you purposely begin every boss questline one after the other just to get the weapons then the story feels a bit all over the place.

Idk, I think Sucker Punch could've done these unlocks better.

GymWolf GymWolf I trust your judgment, lemme know if you buy, if you havent already, how the game is. Kisses
WHat do you disliked about the first one?

Because other than stuff that you can immediately tell like controls, graphic etc.many thing require at least 10-15 hours to be assested.

I'm picking my copy tonight so i'm probably gonna be able to sunk 2-3 hours if hades 2 doesn't call me back.

For me the biggest "leap" this gen is load times. Most games they are non existent or mere seconds.

A couple of lady streamers are actually kicking ass from the get go. Shame on CohhCarnage for folding so early.

This one was playing near flawlessly on lethal for 1.25 hours. And then ran into a duel without dodge roll or disarm abilities. Tried and retried for a good 50 minutes (starting 1:19:00), but eventually beat it!

I didnt like the open-world design, you know the uby style objectives, same camps, same shrines/whatever. I liked the vistas, the duels and a little bit of stealth was fine. I gave it a 7. Im just curious when you're more than half way in, what you think of it. Obviously I dont like the chick, but I'll prolly play it in Japanese so I dont care much about the voice actress, but I do hope theres a better story villain and better stealth. Essentially if its worth 70-80 euros or wait for PC and half the price is where Im getting at. Lemme know.

I don't think the ubisoft style is gone at all, they probably just changed enough to not make it feel identical to tsushima like shadows did compared to valhalla, but this is definitely a ubisoft type of open world, not an elden ring\zelda botw type of open world.

I'm not partial to any type, i enjoy both in equal measure, usually is the mix of combat\writong\traversal that make it or break it a game for me, if combat and enemy variety\quality is good and it is fun to move around the map and the world is interesting, i don't mind ubisoft samey activities at all, they just prolong the time i can have fun with the game.

So i'm not sure if i'm you best bet, a good 7 is enough for me to spend money on it.

For reference, i thought shadows was like a 6.

I generally dont mind ubisoft open world either, I gave shadows an 8 mostly due to its atmosphere/seasons and stealth, but it depends. Still, Ill wait for some of you impressions. I have games to play anyway, no rush.

I can already tell that stealth is probably better in shadows, between going prone, killing lights to make shadows, seasons that change the map and enemies patterns and the fact that past ac already had better stealth than tsushima.

Combat is where yotei probably break shadows ass like it's not even funny, expect for the lack of ragdoll and precanned death animations.
Story and charas are also probably gonna be much better, ubisoft can't write worth a shite.

Are they locked though? I read that they aren't locked behind bosses, but locked behind weapon masters? Even remember seeing a video where someone was like (minor spoiler) "if the game is too difficult, don't attempt any of the main bosses until you acquire all weapons from the respective masters"

Also you can actually beat every single boss and playthrough the entire game without acquiring other weapons. Haven't seen anyone do that yet (and probably won't for sake of avoiding spoilers), but it's a dev quote.

lol no, i was just saying that even if the game turn out a 7, i'm not gonna say that the game is not worthy, i'm very strict with scores and i use a real score scale, not modern scale where 7 is caca pupu pipi.

I meant shots fired at AC shadows. If 7 is your threshold for purchase, then 6 is not worthy of your purchase right?

EDIT: Ah. I think I get what you mean...
