Ghost of Yotei |OT| Jin there, done that

Are they locked though? I read that they aren't locked behind bosses, but locked behind weapon masters? Even remember seeing a video where someone was like (minor spoiler) "if the game is too difficult, don't attempt any of the main bosses until you acquire all weapons from the respective masters"

Also you can actually beat every single boss and playthrough the entire game without acquiring other weapons. Haven't seen anyone do that yet (and probably won't for sake of avoiding spoilers), but it's a dev quote.

I meant shots fired at AC shadows. If 7 is your threshold for purchase, then 6 is not worthy of your purchase right?
I can enjoy 6\10 if they have at least 1-2 fun aspects.

I enjoyed forspoken for what it was, a 6\10 with fun, fast, traversal and magic infamous kinda gameplay, even if both traversal and combat weren't as good as infamous (if it wasn't clear, i'm very partial to infamous and fun traversal in open worlds)

Shadows was a strange case, i don't think i can score lower than a 6 because it's a not like a broken game but i didn't had that much fun with it, combat was particularly dreadfull after like 10 hours.
I think i had more fun with another 6 like atlas fallen just because combaf was straight up more fun.

Understood. Also why I could never get myself try it out. It has some ingredients that I enjoy, like Japan setting, open world, stealth action and graphics. But without a strong narrative hook and/or excellent combat, I'll not even bother. Backlog is just too big... I was able to get through HFW only because the story was at least mildly interesting and combat loop (outside of melee) was excellent. Otherwise, no amount of graphics would have pushed me over the fence.

EDIT: Ah. I think I get what you mean...
To unlock each weapon master you need to begin its respective boss questline and visit his region first.

I read some people already having the double katana pretty early, so they just went directly to the master?

I prefer this way, having everything immediately woud make the game another botw\tokt were they give you all the cool toys in the first 2-3 hours and then you have 50+ hours of minor discoveries.

I don't want all 5 weapons in the first 5 hours, i want to earn them.

Yes, the double katana master is in the first region.

The thing is you don't earn them. You can grind away at brutes and shield soldiers for eternity and it won't really change a thing, but then you can go to each boss questline, start it, go to the weapon master afterwards and unlock it.

There's no "earning weapons" here it's just the progression being wonky imo.

I don't know how the system work, i was just saying that i prefer where a game doesn't give you all the cool toys in the first hours, discovering a new weapon type should feel like quite an achievement.

I have actually rented the game, I guess I couldn't resist in the end. I think this is definitely a better option for those who don't feel comfortable supporting it with a purchase

I am installing the disc now, it's taking 45 minutes which is crazy. I dont understand why this is so slow but then again, I barely play on console.

Anyway I will post impressions later 👍

Goddamn Topher Topher got to you didn't he?

Welcome home!

Are you coming across enemies that require a weapon you don't have?

Nothing is required so far besides a bow if you want to use arrows. The spear guys are a little easier with dual blades but they weren't very hard with the katana. Maybe things change later.

So I'm an idiot, I thought I was having a graphical glitch. Turns out downing two flasks of sake back to back makes your vision blurry. Just walking my horse around feeling like Arthur Morgan looking for Lenny.
