Actor Chadwick Boseman(Black Panther) dies from cancer

Black Panther could have had a completely different cast and director (Ava DuVernay left the director role early on), and still would have been released on schedule with the Marvel slate. Wesley Snipes produced Blade, and like Feige over BP, Snipes had authority over who/what/where/when/why was in that movie.
And above all, Blade was the first Marvel movie that was a commercial hit, paving the way for the next 20 years of superhero movies. Of course Spider-Man and X-Men would be hits, but the release dates and timeline probably would be different if Blade flopped or was never released in 1998 (remember Batman & Robin underperformed in 1997, and could have made producers reluctant to finance any more superhero films).
Blade deserves a lot more respect, on top of being incredibly entertaining to this day

Black Panther was the first nearly all black big budget sci-fi action film where the leads, side characters, supporting characters, crew and director were black. Conventional wisdom was that an all black cast won't be profitable... Especially not a big budget all black cast.

Blade and Spawn were leads only in mostly non-black casts/crewed films.

And that's ok. But BP wasn't the first black superhero film.
Blade, Meteor Man, Blankman

Blade, Meteor Man, Blankman

I said big budget. Meteor Man and Blankman were small budget movies that never gained mainstream recognition NOR became blockbusters.

Blade, was not almost all black cast//crew/director.

Blade was amazing but AS I SAID, he was the first mainstream black superhero in Cinemas. Just not almost all black, much less all black. It was a hit ... Arguably a blockbuster.

Edit: not to mention that Blade Trinity, blade was the only black person in the whole movie who had any merit to the story. Shoot... Blade was a secondary character to Ryan Reynolds and Jessica (I'm forgetting her last name all of a sudden).

Blade Trinity was an absolute shit show. People needed to die who were associated with making decisions on that film.

I know not everyone liked Black Panther, the movie, but when me and my group of friends went to see it, it blew my mind. When the ship went behind the barrier and you see Wakanda for the first time, it was like magic! I felt a sense of awe and wonder that I can't explain! I felt the full gamut of emotions throughout the movie.

I understand that it wasn't as emotional for others, but it was for me and at least some of my friends. In Infinity War, I was truly saddened when T'Challa was snapped. And then in Endgame when you see T'Challa, Shuri and Okoye... I was so happy and tears streamed down my eyes. It was just a beautiful moment.

Laugh at me if you want but that's how I felt and still feel ...

exemplary people should come together and make movies, that's what black panther appears to be

opting for tribalism is unsatisfactory, wanting for it is a road to destruction

just my opinion

I'm not arguing for tribalism. In fact, it's one of the things that makes me sick. It's why I'm barely in poligaf because no matter what good argument folks make, "the other side" mocks it and dismisses it.

I'm just giving the facts.

Yes, Blankman and Meteor Man were nearly all black cast movies... Blade wasn't the first successful action movie with a black lead.

However, the Hollywood conventional wisdom was that a big budget sci-fi or fantasy movie with a majority black cast and director would ONLY be seen as a black film and wouldn't be successful at the box office because "white people wouldn't pay to see it"

This is why Marvel has my respect... Because they took knew what they had and treated it with respect... It was a gamble but, like Wesley said in Passenger 57... Always bet on black. LOL!
