Amiibo (Nintendo Figurines) - Wallets be Damned, Buying Them All!

For our UK friends, I don't know if it was posted yet, we have a confirmation on the amiibo prices: £10.99

http://store.nintendo.co.uk/amiibo.list

As this is the RRP, what are the chances of stores/online competitively lowering the price on these?

I see they're up for pre-order on Amazon UK - with high res pics, £12.99 each (will undoubtedly drop soon), though am hoping they'll reach at £10 sweet spot by launch.

edit: I have Link up for preorder, the plan is to stick with just the Zelda characters in each wave.

So I guess that will translate to 14,99€ at the worst, which is still a reasonable price, sorta kinda.
Gotta buy them all!
Using the MK8 DLC 2 pack (which was £11) I'd say €12.

UKers. Remember Amazon.fr and Gamestop.co.uk (both are € based one being French and the other Irish) or something maybe.

My currency converter screams rip-off. I asked NOE about it (when it was the MK8 DLC you all salivated over):
What this means is the pricing will be adjusted to fall inline within the same price range per region and per their respective local currency. Pricing fluctuates per pack and per region and in our effort to ensure pricing is set fairly amongst all regions time to time you may note a small difference in comparison to previous bundle packs which must also account for local taxation fees.

Taxation varies regionally and as such these prices have been set to be competitive and attractive in each respective region.
NOE think it is fair to rip of Britain.

I'm a little surprised by the "Smash Bros Collection" mention on the box...
I guess they are really fans of confusing the customer with products names or something because when other games will use Amiibos, while supposedly being compatible with your Mario fig, people will tend to think "but this amiibo is noted in Smash Bros collection, it will not work with other games!".

As far as I'm concerned I will just get Link. I'm not into goodies but those are pretty cheap so I was tempted to get Marth and Samus as well, but this will never end if I start like that so I will stick to the Zelda franchise.

To be fair, this is a common thing across all industries and companies, not just Nintendo.

So before VAT it's £8.79, and converted to US dollars according to Google, it's $14.46, and with VAT it's equivalent to $18.08.

But yeah, that's usual with anything over here, so it's OK, £9.99 would have been a good price. But there's other costs before VAT along with what retailers usually put on for themselves after Nintendo sell it to them (something that websites and forums seem to forget when showing how much a company makes).

Just preordered Samus, Kirby, Fox, Link, Villager and Donkey Kong at Amazon.co.uk as I had gift card balance remaining. Hopefully they'll drop the price to the RRP of £10.99 soon, then I'll preorder another!

Didn't notcie how awesome the Fox figure looks until seeing it on Amazon, it will be mine!

Right? It looks so damn good. It makes me so happy to see the Fox amiibo be the fourth best-selling out of them on Amazon. I hope Star Fox does well next year.

Also, Miyamoto already hinted at the new Star Fox getting it's own set of amiibos so I know which game I'm going to end up collecting them all for. Sorry wallet.

Yup!!

Just pre-ordered Pikachu for the wife and Kirby + Yoshi for myself (Yoshi Wooly World and Kirby Rainbow Curse please). Something tells me this is only the beginning...

I really hope they invest a lot in this concept with the games themselves. How cool would it be to have your own Mario, Link, etc. that has personalized data for every Nintendo game released in the future?

Hmm Amazon UK currently have them for £12.99, but they only just put the Mario Amiibo up and they are still yet to put Peach up.

Plus the price will probably drop between now and the release date.

Do we know if it's possible to import Amiibos? Are they "region-free", as it were?

That's a good question.

I think it's the proper place to ask this so here I go.

I've read that SSB Amiibo series can be used in other games but that they may have lesser capabilities so I want to restrain myself and mostly buy the ones :
- that I'm going to use a lot for SSB 4
- that I'm finding to have a great design (and that I may use in other games)

So first, did I get this right? Does the Amiibo x SSB series has specific features for this game and other games may need other Amiibos for complete compatibility?

Now regarding the first batch I like the most Samus, Kirby, Pikachu, Fox, Link and Yoshi (Pit is no more here?).

I think I'll go with :
*Fox (good SSB character and figurine is nice, Starfox game's not even clearly announced so other Fox Amiibo has a long way to come).
*Link (a character I like a lot and if Zelda U comes out with various Amiibos I'll take another Link with no regret)

I hesitate for :
*Kirby (design is simple so I may buy another one with the Kirby game not having a lot of regrets since Kirby can take various forms. I also think that Kirby could be a nice character to train myself with at SSB 4 since he can adapt to every enemy.)
*Pikachu (a must have in my collection but it would just be for the figurine so I may wait a little since I won't play with him in SSB 4 and he's not compatible with other announced games).

I guess I'll wait for :
*Yoshi since I don't really like this design (nose seems to be a different piece of plastic that the rest and it bothers me.. yeah details I know but I'd also prefer a yellow one).
*Samus is awesome but I'd prefer Zero Suit Samus and sadly no Metroid game is announced (yet)

So, does my point regarding other game's compatibility is true? And regarding strategies in SSB 4 does Fox, Link and Kirby could be a great start for me? (I like fast characters with accessories or a large variety of moves)? Also does my point for Kirby being a good virtual trainer stands since he can inhale other players and use some of their moves? (he would make me try to find breach in my own character's move set).

PS : where's Pit? I can't find it on French sites :'(

That's what I gathered from this interview.
Takahashi: To get technical, the amiibo is able to store data, and within the full data set you have this much data (mimics a large space with his pointer finger and thumb) which is reserved for Smash Bros. But then you have a subset of data (mimics roughly half of the space from the previous example) that says this is the Mario figure. Smash Bros will use the big chunk of data in the Smash Bros. amiibo, but the other games are able to read that this is a Mario figure through this other set of data that identifies the character, and that is how the characters are able to interact with the Mario amiibo.

When you use the Smash Bros. Mario amiibo in Smash Bros., it's able to do all of the different things designed for that game. When you take that amiibo and you use it in different games, it's not the Smash Bros. Mario, it's just a Mario. It's a more simple use for [amiibo functionality] but it's able to do those two things.

Miyamoto: So for example, if you look at the Mario amiibo from the Smash Bros. line, it's the Smash Bros. Mario, which is a little bit different from the normal Mario. We'll probably prepare a more standard Mario family line of amiibo characters that includes your typical Mario designs and typical Peach designs. Those figures would be the ones you use with Mario Party 10 or potentially with Mario Kart 8. As for Star Fox, we haven't decided what will happen when you put the Smash Bros. Star Fox amiibo on the GamePad yet, but I do want an Arwing amiibo (laughs).

Thank you. I didn't read this interview and it's even more clear.
I guess I'll go for Fox, Link and Kirby as a start then :)

And Miyamoto wanting an Arwing Amiibo !!!! *happy dance* <(^o^<)

Will those figures be compatible with the Disney and activation toy games?
They can use the technology for their games but nothing had been announced for Nintendo's Amiibos compatibility with Disney or Activision's games.

I wouldn't think so.

But at E3 Nintendo had announced that Disney Infinity and Skylanders would have exclusive NFC features on Wii U. My best guess would be using some Amiibos in those games.

I want that Samus, she looks so badass :3

They're probably gonna cost like R$80,00 here in Brazil though ;-;

The Smash Bros functionality still seems like something I would never use. Hopefully the Mario Kart/Captain Toad uses are more interesting. I wonder if those two games will even use Amiibos this year or if it'll be patched in later.

it seems that they'll cost 14.99€, going with Amazon.de
I was hoping for something less, more in line with Infinity (not mentioning the basic Skylander that cost 9.99)
In any case, still no firm release date nor details about their function with other games apart Smash? theorically, they'll be compatible with MK8, already available, and Toad, coming in December/January (NA/PAL)...

Yeah, I hope they will give us some more information about amiibos soon.
When they first anounced those figurines I was pretty sure to buy all of them. Right now however, I will only get one to test it. So far the functionality seems a bit underwhelming for the asking price, tbh.

I agree.
I mean, the proposition is good for us gamers, if I can use 1 amiibo with multiple games. But if I don't know how it works on at least some of those games...

They're selling for 12.99 on Amazon.fr

I've seen, thank you. But it seems an offer, I still hope for an official announcement of the price more in line with the Amazon.fr one, honestly

Are these really worth pre-ordering? I want a bunch of them except I don't know if I wanna put money on them yet.

amazon won't charge you until it ships

Well yeah, I was asking more about if the functions of the amiibo themselves are worth it. They look cool and all, but I don't want to pre-order some based on that. Probably just wait for the holidays to get a few.

I can definitely see myself trying to collect all of these. They look fantastic! I can definitely anticipate these things flying off shelves for the holidays. I went ahead and preordered a Link figure.

if the production figs look as nice as the display one then yeah they look great for the price regardless of NFC functionality.
