Amiibo (Nintendo Figurines) - Wallets be Damned, Buying Them All!

They are up on Amazon UK!

I actually saw them for £10.99 a couple hours ago, but now they're all £12.99... guess I should've said something earlier lol. Oops!

Yep, they're up. £12.99, the equivalent of what, more than $20? Expected but still ridiculous.

Even at that price, Kirby and Peach will be mine.

Well, limited usage isn't a problem if the usage were actually decent.

For example, if having a Smash Amiibo actually allows one to play as extra characters in other games, even without any saving data capabilities outside of Smash it'd be a big deal.

I think that if they had something that big planned as far as support goes we'd know about it already though. So, I'm not very optimist regarding their possible functions...

Ya I was thinking it would be cool if the Amiibo unlocked the racer in Mario kart. But the villager is already DLC in Mario Kart so I doubt that happens now.

I didn't realize at first but the Amiibos work with GCU at Best Buy. They come out to $11.04 for me after tax. At least I save a few dollars per figurine.

Just preordered Samus and Fox. Not sure if I want to get Villager too or not.

Do we know whether they'll be releasing amiibos for every character in Smash?

I believe I read an interview around E3 that they were planning on an amiibo for every smash character.

I think I'll just wait for the Pit figure.

Welp I found them on Amazon UK and pre-ordered Link, Marth, Kirby, Samus, Fox and Wii Fit Trainer.

Though oddly Mario and Peach aren't up aren't they part of wave one as I want to buy Peach Amiibo.

Pre ordered Peach, Wii fit trainer, Link, and Kirby. Will get Marth and Villager later.

Where the fuck is my ZSS, Rosalina, and Palutena?

You know, I still think it's super weird that Amazon "sold out" on a pre-order of a non LE item. It's just weird... GS seems to have an unlimited supply (or I'm one of the few that pre-ordered there just for the points).

Yeah, it seems like everyone outside Amazon has them in unlimited supply as well. Very strange that they would run out.

Unless Nintendo gave them a set amount they can make and send out on release day. I'm sure more supply is coming. Link and Samus are still available, which you'd think is the more popular characters than say Marth and Villager.

Well, the Smash villager is from the DS/GC game, while the Mario Kart DLC Villager is from the 3ds game. They have different designs. Same goes to Link (Twilight Princess vs Skyward Sword). I think they'd have mentioned it already if they were planning something that big though.

Hey guys, anyone here pre-order on Amazon? I don't have Prime, and I *thought* that when I pre-ordered 3 of them, the total came to roughly $38. That makes sense, because I was under the impression that orders over $25 don't charge for shipping.

Well today when I went to check the order, my total shot up to $48, and I'm now being charged shipping. I might have misunderstood....but basically, what's the Amazon shipping rule? Do they now charge for shipping on everything unless you have Prime? If that's the case, I'm not going to order these on Amazon when I can get them at a retail store without being charger $7 for shipping (for 3).
As long as you're buying them from Amazon they are indeed eligible for Free Shipping. The total needs to be over $35 though, not $25, and that's in merchandise only (so before tax). Also you should make sure you have them all set to ship together, not individually. I don't think any of these have firm release dates yet, so that's probably what happened. Different placeholder dates = different shipping speeds = you need to pay for shipping. So just wait for the dates to firm up.

The logic is sound, but would they give Amazon that less than everyone else? Or does Amazon just have that many more people buying than other shops? I guess either is a possibility, but an odd possibility either way.

Ah, okay. Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated!

Don't know if its been confirmed or not, but has Nintendo said anything about future plans? Obviously a wave 2 and more but I'm curious if every single Smash character gets their own figure. If thats the case thats about 50 figures just based off of Smash characters alone lol

I assume that if Wave one sells well they will do a wave two and restock wave one.

I had just gone & pre-ordered the Villager, Peach, & Samus, & I will get Kirby on a later date.

But I hope the December 31st release date is only a placeholder, as that is well beyond the Christmas season & will be a missed opportunity for Nintendo.

I could've sworn at one point in time it was said that we'd get all Smash characters as Amiibos. Is this incorrect? At the very least, it's certain we'll get a wave two, right? Weren't there characters shown that aren't in this set, or am I misremembering? I'm pretty certain I've seen a Pit and Zelda, unless they were shopped or something.

Every Smash character is getting a figure. I assume sales will determine if certain waves (or characters specifically) get more shipments or not.

More than likely they'll have multiple waves of the figures.
From the Skylanders/Infinity side, its to get people to continue to visit the store to see when new things are in stock. (and with Skylanders it can get a bit frustrating when you're after a certain character and they don't have them in/only put 1 in a box/ you need it to 100% the game)

I have a feeling that if these do really good, the scalper market on them could very easily make it difficult to find the characters you want. I hope stores will at least keep them in stock well on their websites or Nintendo sells them from their online store.

Yeah, good point. I'm sure finding Link, Mario, Peach, etc. will never be a problem, but others like Wii Fit Trainer, might be.

Pre ordering every single one of these........and I don't even know why.

They look awesome but I'm still not 100% sure what all they actually do in the games. I guess the collector in me is screwing with my better judgment.

I saw a report on Amiibos on my local Brooklyn News Channel a couple days ago!

It was a standard report without any images or videos, but I still found it pretty neat that they were informing their viewers before any real hype began(which is when news reporters usually jump in... with erroneous info too).

If you pre ordered from GameStop I can confirm the December 31st date on these is simply placeholder. Nintendo hasn't given us a firm date yet.

don't ask me for codes
Nintendo plz.

$12.99 -> €19.99 ($26.28) /£12.99 ($21.38) ?

EDIT:
£10.99 at game.co.uk

I could see them unlocking karts, glider designs, or palette swaps for characters already in the game, none of which require nearly as much labour from artists and animators. I doubt unlocking racers is at all a possibility just given how much work full coverage of the eventual Amiibo roster would demand.

I just want this to happen for Mario Kart 8, especially if we get the Rush Bike.
