Amiibo (Nintendo Figurines) - Wallets be Damned, Buying Them All!

I would really like a Link and Mario (my 2 favorite franchises of all time), though their stances suck. almost like they are backwards (link in a weird jumping animation and mario in a pose...link should be posing his sword like mario as the fireball, and mario could be in a jumping animation with his fist up) I know the art they came from, I just don't like em that much, so am torn a bit.

I think he meant with Sony and MS solely.

Ohhhh.

Well I can't imagine Microsoft having much to show with themselves in terms of mascots but with Sony, I could definitely see characters like Kratos, Ratchet, Drake, etc. Getting their own Amiibo in the future if Sony wants to milk this too.

You know, according to amazon, if Samus is selling well I can't imagine how well Zero Suit Samus will sell lol.

A bit of a stupid question but I may as well be sure.

These are in no way region locked are they?
I can happily buy the Amiibos of Amazon and they will work on my Australian Wii U?

Considering that everything else is region locked there is a chance. I doubt it, but if I were you I'd hold out before pre-ordering them from the US.

these type of things will be released over and over again right? nothing in regards of being collectors stuff...just people buying them out quick?

I preordered Kirby and Peach. I wish there was a Rosalina one, but I'm already spending enough money what with this and all the upcoming Nintendo games. D:

So the best deal for this right now is....

BestBuy.com pre-order via ebates for 1% cashback.

If you're an elite gamer you get 20% off

Plus another 10% off for having the Mover's coupon (get this at your local post office)

Making it $9.35 per figure pre-tax and free shipping. So the total is $112.20 + tax for the 12 launch amiibos and you'll get $1.12 cashback via ebates and some reward zone points.

I'd hold off on pre-ordering a bit. I expect some buy 1 get 50% off or free deals once these launch -- as was the case with Disney Infinity.

I locked in pre-orders for the full set at Amazon as soon as they went live earlier today but I just ordered another set from Best Buy using my GCU discount/a gift card.

Can't wait! :D

Nevermind it does work.

It sucks that best buy takes money from your bank account on and off though. I don't keep much cash in the account that I use for games and stuff.

I don't see the point in buying a whole set right away. Surely there are going to be promos like Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off or Buy 2 Get 1 Free. These are even more likely to occur when other waves of Amiibos come out and they deem the previous wave unnecessary.

I am thinking Marth and Kirby. I like to play as Marth and Kirby is very cute.

Interesting that my gamer discount works on these! I pre ordered Link, Samus, Marth and Villager. These are my must haves. I am sure I will pick some of the others on sales. I predict shelves and shelves full of the Wii fit trainer.

My bottom 4, the amigos I have the LEAST interest in:

4) fox
3) Kirby
2) Peach
1) WiiFit trainer

The Wii fit trainer especially is going to have to be either $1 or come in a buy one get one sale where she is my only choice. Still annoyed that she s in the game.

Wii Fit Trainer will be so sad when she finds out she a toy nobody wants to buy. Hopefully it won't be that bad lol.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

Same, I pre-ordered 4 as well: Pikachu, Mario, Link and Samus as my initial batch. Further down the line, I will wait for sales and buy most amiibo's except Wii Fit Trainer, sorry boo.

I didn't go crazy on these - i did get 4 of them.

Mario, Link, Samus, Peach.

There's really no need to have more than one so i just picked some of the favorite characters or best looking.

$13 is kinda high for what they are but i guess there's demand. I'll probably pick up more over time.

So if theres 50+ characters in Smash. And they create an Amiibo for each one.

Dear god thats gonna be over 650$ worth of figures.

I feel sorry for wallets everywhere.

I don't get it... everyone seems to be thrilled about these Amiibos and I haven't heard anything negative about them yet. Why does everyone want these things again???

I'm not understanding how this works, exactly. They're like expensive and high quality happy meal toys that have a chip in it to allow you to play with a persistent AI character? Why can't this just be done in games without Amiibo? I'm not a Super Smash Bros fan, but what's the difference between choosing to play as/with Link in the game and using the Link Amiibo? How might this work in MK8?

The physical product is the point. Pure data is impersonal.

It's less about their ingame functionality and more about the desire to collect.

....at least that's what I'm seeing.

One word, collectibles.

Well the amiibo in Smash is like your own trained CPU fighter/friend (daw).

We know they will work in other games like Mario Kart, but we still have no idea how.

Well they are also collectibles, and they serve one very interesting point in-game. They are training buddies/friend/rival/teammate.

Based on the trailer, the more you use to fight against other Amiibos, or yourself or someone else, the stronger they become. And the stronger they become, the more difficult they are to fight against when you wish to fight them.

You also get to personalize there abilities and fighting moves. There is apparently other stuff we can do to customize them in-game but we have yet to hear what else that is.

So I guess the cool aspect of this is that it's more than just a collectible little figure, it's also your friend/rival in a way. And that has a lot of value with people.

Looking at them now on Amazon, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, and Marth are OOS.

That's a little weird. Link is the highest selling Amiibo at the moment and people can still order those.

Did Nintendo make more Link Amiibos and figured people wouldn't be as interested in some of the others?

Really? Are they any good?

I could've sworn the show was cancelled several years ago!

They would release new episodes every once in a while as well as a couple movies but they pretty much just kept it reruns, then like the past year or so they pretty much relaunched the series with a new live-action movie and brand new episodes. The quality is about the same as usual, I think old episodes were slightly better but i still enjoy it.

I asked my kids which one they want, so I preordered Samus, Kirby and Pikachu. Until I know more about how they will enhance games, I am going to wait to purchase anymore.

Holy crap at the comment section on the trailer video.

I have to remind myself to not read youtube comments sometimes. So much...bitterness down there... :(

I don't collect stuff so I'll first wanna see if the implementation is fun enough to invest in some of these. But I think I need to get Wii Fit Trainer, just so she becomes a successful figurine and some people stop mocking her. She's pretty cool too. Holding that yoga pose for like 45 seconds, crazy.
