I was really hoping Pit would be in the original batch. I'll probably get pre-order Link once it actually has a release date.

yeeeeeeah. I'm gonna have to preorder the samus amiibo. Maybe the yoshi one as well, but I'm not sure yet.

I don't know if I want to really get into collecting all these but I gotta have Samus.

Not a fan of the ones suspended by clear plastic sticks. Too delicate for figures I'd plan on taking around to friend's houses and the like.

Yeah, they didn't have to match the SSB4 poses. Practicality should've taken priority.

I hope Miyamoto's suggestion of custom ordering Mii Amibos happens. That would be pretty sweet.

In for samus, link, and yoshi preorders. I will cancel them if the integration with mario kart and captain toad is not great (not a smash player). I don't want them just as decorations.

Preordered 9 of then via Amazon earlier today, and I'm a bit bummed that the other 3 are currently unavailable. Marth I cab understand, I guess. But Villager and Trainer? Really?

I think I'll risk waiting for Amazon to update allotments. I'd rather not hit up another vendor if it won't be ultimately necessary.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???

I think the Amiibo's will provide cosmetics changes to the above software you mentioned, like get a Yoshi, and the figurine will provide you with a Yoshi hat for Toad. Something like that - I hope we get some other info soon, an Amiibo Direct will most likely be shown to explain in greater detail what Amiibo is and what benefits it provides.

As I said, we don't know the exact details of what Amiibo will do. We know there's some basic data sharing and the ability the "summon" your amiibo character as an AI, though even that isn't clear. I'm sure we'll get a Direct that breaks it down at some point near the end of the year. I'm sure there will beno direct affect to Mario Kart 8. It'll most likely be something like saving a Kart layout to bring to your friends or something. Relax, your games are going to be fine if you're not interested in Amiibos.

I don't know if Mario Kart 8 can actually do anything with a Smash Bros. Mario amiibo other than recognize that it's a Mario amiibo, so I don't know if it can write to the toy. I remember back from E3 IGN had this interview in which they describe the setup of the amiibo's internal data.
To get technical, the amiibo is able to store data, and within the full data set you have this much data (mimics a large space with his pointer finger and thumb) which is reserved for Smash Bros. But then you have a subset of data (mimics roughly half of the space from the previous example) that says this is the Mario figure. Smash Bros will use the big chunk of data in the Smash Bros. amiibo, but the other games are able to read that this is a Mario figure through this other set of data that identifies the character, and that is how the characters are able to interact with the Mario amiibo.

Not interested myself tbh. I can see Nintendo making a shitload of money out of them though. I wonder how long before they start selling Pokemon amiibos..?

I can see Pokken or Pokémon Z/XY2 having Amiibo capability. Would be nice if ORAS did but I feel that it's too late for that now.

Damn these seem to selling really good, and I'll gladly add on just pre-ordered Link, Mario, DK, Fox, and Samus will wait for the 2nd wave to get more, I still might end up with all of them in the end though

I'll probably get one or two just as cool figurines for my desk at work. Not sure I'll actually use them as meant.

When we get an Luigi Amiibo, it better have this face at least:

I really hope that the Luigi Amiibo is the Smash 4 render. I wonder how often they will be releasing new sets of these?

If their use in other games is unlocking non-Super Mario characters in them (like kirby in Mario Party) then I demand NBA Street and SSX Wii U games from EA. I know that's not going to happen but playing as Mario in both of them was the greatest fun I had on my Gamecube.

I have pre-ordered nine out of the twelve available figures, as Amazon.com has three of them (e.g. Marth) out of stock. I wish that they are worth $12.99 each.

Zelda or Link?

Link looks great considering how off he looks in Smash, Zelda that we have seen was a very early prototype.
I don't know how to respond to this. But that's a legit dumb question.

Anyways the characters that have to have fine details painted on that are not molded for easier to "paint by the numbers" Are most likely going to look worse by default. Peach in comparison to Zelda for example. All of Peach's outfit is several layers of design that are single colors or has small grooves in the plastic that make the painting easier to get right. Meanwhile Zelda and Marth have more solid outfits that are single layers and have to be painted with no visible guideline on the figure itself.

That and the Marth figures face is totally fucked up in the cheekbone section so he looks super off :p

Marth, Zelda, and Fox models for reference as fox is really good at showcasing the layers and paint by number aspect pretty well.

These are the showcase ones so I can't imagine how bad some of the retail ones might come out.

Edit: Then again these are just little 13 dollar figures so you get what you pay for I guess. Some of them just look so much better than others so it just annoyingly inconsistent to me.

I'd probably really jump at getting the Yoshi amiibo...except that for whatever reason there's that huge seam running along his nose like it was a separate part of the figure they just glued on later. Having that on his arm I can kind of understand and deal with, but right in the middle of his face like that is kind of obvious and cheap-looking.

When these were first announced I had no interest in them at all...now they're feeling a bit more tempting.

I hope Nintendo allows registering of these on Club Nintendo. Not sure how'd that work, as accessories aren't registerable, but these aren't normal accessories! :D

America should just adopt us when it comes to stuff like this.

We'll still be Canada but let us in on this kind of shit. Tired of waiting for gaming related goods to show up way later for us >_>
I'm not sure what the hold is though, 99.9% of the time, we get all the same stuff. It's really lame.

If they get the full set back on the US Amazon, I'll just pre-order there until something local is available.

I really tried not to pay attention to these.
If the entire lineup from Smash Bros is represented then I am hosed. Definitely in for Mario, Link, and Samus at the very least.

Even though I have no room or use for them, I'll be buying them all eventually too. I am gonna buy a shelf just for them.

Key word "THE" and the lack of an S at the end of amiibo :p
My bad just added the Link since Zelda Isn't being shown for wave 1 and since its a Smash Bros line you could have meant in a "the Zelda(series character) amiibo."

Though I wouldn't worry that much yet, Link got much better since E3(the face) and Zelda has alot of time till release.

I'm sure as hell not buying them all for $13 each. That Samus one looks nice though.

Nintendo explicitly thought about you when pricing these figures, they were generous enough to provide an extra cent off making them officially 12.99$ and not 13$! A Bargain! ;)

Preordered all of them while I could. I don't know that I like the ones that have the clear stick holding them up, seem kinda flimsy but they look like they're awesome quality for 13 bucks. Super excited.

I wonder if Nintendo plans on patching games like 3D World, NSMB, Hyrule Warriors, Pikmin 3, etc to include some modest functionality? I really like the Samus one so I'll get that, but I might have to grab a Mario or Link too, just not a fan of the fireball on Mario or the plastic stick up Link's backside.

I doubt it, honestly. Nintendo doesn't usually seem interested in creating new compatibility for older products, like that.
