Some people are going to say any game is ugly, no matter how it looks. Someone will always be able to find some flaw, and they're going to bitch about it, no matter how inconsequential it may be. It's just the way it is.

You don't exactly need a PhD in nitpicking to find graphical flaws here. The seemingly missing aliasing is such an eyesore. Whenever that wine-red-haired shows up it becomes jarring to look at. Don't get me started on some of those open-areas...

I should probably just stop watching stuff and buy it (which I will), then take it for what it is.

They know how to hook me in... Showing these big open environments. I am a sucker for teh BIG open world. ANd I don't even want it all be utterly packed with details and things to do. THat's the job of points of interests like city. I like the sense of journey. My favorite Rockstar game is RDR, that has plenty of empty desert to ride around... I am odd like that.

Noctis is a pampered prince who's probably never sprinted for even 100m in his life. I think his running animation fits his character.

He's a seasoned fighter from the start, so no. The animation looks fine to me though, I've seen worse in real life.

This what SE had to say about pre-beta earlier this year:

Nice to meet you all, My name is Kitade Satoshi and I am a programmer. I am mainly responsible for maintaining the development environment for FFXV. Today I would like to explain some more about the pre-beta version of the game that we talked about on Twitter a little while ago.

The term “pre-beta version” refers to the product of development on FFXV that was put together in October this year. We have managed to achieve two things with this pre-beta:

1.) We have managed to get the game in a state where you can play the whole thing through from the opening to the ending. By doing this, all the dev. staff are now able to get a shared impression of the overall game.

In short, we can now say that we have done the groundwork for finishing all the different areas of content in the game and the overall product itself to a high standard, polishing up each individual element and fine tuning the gameplay.
There are mechanics and elements that are still undergoing testing and are not implemented in the release code yet, but making it possible for all the dev. staff to grasp an overall image of the game is very important for the next stage of the development process.
As a programmer, I am now in a situation where I can concentrate on the process of optimization and will be pulling out all the stops to get the appeal of the finished product across to people as much as possible.

2.) We have polished the first half of the game to final retail quality and established the final feel of the gameplay.

By doing this we have been able to extrapolate how much work will be necessary in order to bring all aspects of the game, including the feel of the gameplay and the standard of the visuals, up to the final quality level we envisage.
At the same time we have been able to check how actual players will approach playing the game and the pace of their play by inviting valuable players from outside the company in for focus testing.
We have entered the final phase of development now, where the technology and people’s feelings and intuition come together, and this is where the programmers can really show their stuff. You can expect great things from us!

=====

One thing to note is that game development is very complicated and there's still quite a lot of work needed to be done on FFXV but the team are making good progress :)

Hehe but truth to be told that way Noctis sprints makes no sense, this is not the way you sprint at all.

I was speaking in general terms, and I stand by what I said. A certain segment of gamers bitching about graphics whenever a new game preview is shown is virtually an absolute certainty.

I'm not sure if it's a placebo but this did look a little bit better.
Nah, it looks better. Game Informer likely played what was the most stable build at the time when they captured this footage while for Uncovered they used prerecorded footage of what was likely a very recent build because even if it was unstable they got to cherry pick good footage.
The final game will probably look like the Uncovered footage, hopefully with better AA and shadow draw distance.

Man, that looked rough as hell. =x Pre-beta gameplay indeed I guess.

I really wish they give you camera control regarding distance from Noctis because its just too close to him.

Zooming in and out was something I kept trying to figure out in the Platinum demo. I hope it's in the full game.

That sounds like bad news to me...

Final retail quality doesn't mean they will stop improving it. The video is in retail quality no matter what people say. It's totally playable, just not look so good (and publishers have put worse quality games on shelf all the time).

Maybe SE needs to spell it out to people in this thread. "The gameplay featured in the video is from an early version of Final Fantasy XV, and does not represent the state of the final game."

Stop saying it looks ugly. It looks stunning even in pre beta to me.

So even Final Fantasy did it before Gran Turismo.

LOL.

I think a good interplay of mechanics would be to use Cover on the car to shield yourself from enemy attacks. This would increase your chances of winning by quickly restoring MP and HP, but your car's HP could deplete as a result.

I really really want them to nail the story. The best story I've ever played in a Final Fantasy has to be 6, and in the 3D games it was 12 (which fell apart admittedly towards the end). The majority of FF stories in this day and age are really over-the-top and devolve into complex eccentric nomenclature before they ever get their foot off the ground.

Final Fantasy XIII, I still don't really understand what the hell happened in that game.

I like my FFs to have a clear villain from the start to strive to beat at the end. That's why Kefka and Jenova/Sephiroth are my favorites. I like it simple.

FFXII's story didn't do anything for me, I didn't care about Vayne Solidor in the least, he wasn't a compelling villain to me at all. FFXIII just didn't even try to set up an antagonist, for a while there was that girl with glasses, but by the end I was like "Who the fuck is Orphan, what the fuck is going on?". I stopped paying attention to the story of both games about halfway through.

Yeah, you'd think Game Informer would put that out there when posting this vide...oh:

September never felt so far away. lol

September never felt so far away. lol

Game Informer usually uses early footage for their coverage and they always just have something like the "Pre-Beta" thing on the screen and nobody cares, but for some reason FFXV causes people to go into a frenzy.

They are obviously not the same, just very similar. Both look weird and stiff though.

Sorry, not even in the same Galaxy. Like, at all. Noctis' run animation actually looks like it was produced by a human, as opposed to a low-rent humanoid robot.

Noct's run animation IS sort of intense for a resort atmosphere though. It looks great when he's chewing pavement toward an enemy soldier.

Looks good as it is but I really hope they improve the AA solution. It'll make a massive difference to IQ if they fix that.

Also, it looks like we start off with 2 weapons in chapter 1. The basic airstep sword and broadsword that were available in the Platinum demo.

I've said it so many times before... September cannot come soon enough!!!

I'm just thankful to get more footage, even if it some of it looks a little rough around the edges. The last week has been great for FFXV info and media, especially for someone like me who hasn't been keeping track of the game in the last 10 years. lol

even though it was rough in terms of graphical performs such as framerate and IQ in this vid, I want to play this game now. I really love the concept.
