Ant-Man |Spoiler Thread| I Think Our First Move Should Be Calling The Avengers

All the scenes with shrinking were really impressive and fun. Overall it was a strong movie that never tries to go blockbuster but that's kind of its strong point. It's happy to be more low key. Paul Rudd is fantastic and I hope he gets much more screen time in other marvel movies.

Also, for who watched Agent Carter, was those implosives (the ones used on Pym Tech) created by Hank Pym instead of Howard Stark ?

Did he steal a few of those from SHIELD ?

Besides the super hammy yet still somehow forgettable villain, I thought the rest of the movie was really fun. Very simple and straightforward, which was refreshing.

Rudd, Lilly, and Douglas were all stellar. Pena was also a highlight. I love Judy Greer but she was woefully underutilizes in this film. Hopefully she'll get some more screen time in the next go around.

The suits were great. Marvel x Kamen Rider FTW.

Pym used normal explosives. The implosion effects comes from Cross particles that Pym blew up which I assume was originated from that yellow stuff in Agent Carter.

Cheadle is awful as War Machine, dude has no personality and lacks chemistry with Downey Jr.

Agreed! Don Cheadle can hold a firearm really well, but he lacks any charisma. I can't see him as Rhodes in the 1st Iron Man movie.

Iron Man 3 confirmed that Cheadle is a crappy Rhodes. 0 chemistry with RDJ

...I choose to believe he's alive, goddamnit!

He's absolutely alive. He was networked in some capacity because he had access to information outside that bunker in regards to Hydra, Steve, Howard Stark, Bucky etc. his network was a way out/way to back up his consciousness.

I get that the consistent Marvelverse aesthetic (in terms of cinematography, music, and editing) is meant to be a feature, but I think it works against any film that's trying to establish its own identity. Ant-Man gets around this as well as it can, but the MCU mayo still gets spread over the top of everything.

Production design was great overall, though, both practical and CG. The suit had real presence and detail and I loved the sense of scale in the tiny shots. Reminded me of Chibi-Robo. The CG wasn't overly flail-y or rubbery. Everything had proper weight, and the bugs were bugs, not cutesy critters.

Actually no, the ones in Agent Carter were actual implosion devices.

Like I said then. I think Cross research originated from the same stuff as in Agent Carter considering it gives off the same implosion effect when Pym blew them up and Scott punched one.

I think Winter Soldier, Guardians, and (to a lesser degree) the first Cap are the exceptions to this. The difference between how Ant-Man looked and the second after credits scene taken from Civil War was surprisingly jarring.

There was 100% zero chemistry between the two mains though. Wow.

Lilly and Rudd? Thought they were OK but it was mainly Douglas and Rudd.

Saw it one more time with the niece and nephew, both enjoyed it and brother who was hesitant to see it liked it, thought Guardians was better.

Four more things to look at.
1. According to the credits, Antmusic was in the movie but I don't remember hearing it anywhere, should have Stand and Deliver anyways.
2. Was Judy Greer missing during the filming of the dinner scene after the fight? They never really showed her interacting with the others, felt off as fuck.
3. Did Hope's suit have stingers next to it or was it something else?
4. What happens to Pym Tech now? Is Hank just gonna ignore it now to look for Janet? He could use the resources from there. I assume they can come back, didn't stop Stark Industries after the Iron Monger attack and Stark Expo.

Just came back from seeing Ant-Man. What a cool movie, I think this is the first Marvel solo movie where I really liked all of the main character's allies. Paul Rudd is the man, Pena was hilarious, and my god Michael Douglas was amazing. Evangeline Lilly was pretty damn awesome as well :) Great movie and honestly this might be tied up there with GOTG as my favorite MCU movie.

Hopefully he's dead because he's a dumb pointless villain and he's been interesting in 0/2 outings so far so why would they bring him back...?

Saw it yesterday.

Most predictable Marvel movie to date but it enjoyed it very much!

The action and shrinking scene's where very good, the jokes where on point and the script was OK-ish.
I also love the other Marvel references in the movie, with every movie I feel the MCU is getting bigger and it is great to know that everything takes place in the same universe.

I really hated Lilly as Hope, she is so flat (also literally lol) and think its mediocre casting.

Great movie overall, MCU top tier material.

Oh, in case no one noticed:
SHIT VILLAIN AGAIN.

I find it funny how there were no civilians deaths at all in Ultron implied or otherwise, yet here we saw a guy turned into a mush (which was brutal as hell I thought), helicopter pilot getting shot and most likely crashed killing more ppl, Cross imploded, goat(s!!) and Antony.

Ant-Man sequel will be all about Anthony's search to be reunited with Scott.

All the ants will be voiced by Vin Diesel.

It will make ~$1bn worldwide.

Believe.

That reminds me, the use of the cutest lambs possible for the experiments was completely twisted, unnecessary, and hilarious. Especially that close up shot of the lamb's face right before it gets gooed. Like, he might as well have used Gerber babies. It was basically the earlier version of, "You STILL don't think I'm evil enough? Well guess what? I'm not just selling the suits, I'm knowingly selling the suits to HYDRA! YIPEEEEEEE!"

I bet everybody already discussed it to death. ...

But can you guys explain me the second post credits scene?

Nothing to explain. It's just a clip from the middle of Civil War ripped out to tease that Ant-man will be involved in that movie. A very poor choice.

That's what it looked like, but I was afraid it could be something smarter and I was too dumb to get it

Thanks

Seen the movie a few days ago. Pacing a bit too slow in the middle portion for my tastes, but the finale was fantastic and had the entire audience in stitches.

One question though: Did I miss something or did Hydra actually get their hands at least on the Pym particles? Cross hands one of their agents a flask with the sample talking about how the fuel isn't free or something but before they can complete the deal Ant-Man breaks free and it gets chaotic. I don't remember any HYDRA agents being knocked out here (just some Cross industries guards) and they're also not in chopper with Cross, so they likely got away in the confusion.

Yes. Hydra got their hands on Cross' Pym Particle formula.

so is the Pym Particle really the most revolutionary science in the MCU as of right now

does this make Hank the number one scientist in MCU

i mean is it greater, scientifically than Ultron, Zola's Algorithm, super soldier serum etc and other scientific work in the MCU

Sweet. So many possibilities for bullshittery. You could shrink a previously bunker-filling backup of the Nazi doc's mind backup (I'm sure they had at least one more of such an important person) to the size of an actual brain with this. Then create a cyborg body for that brain :P

Let me see Cappn despair in Cappn3 because nothing he does seems to permanently kill that Nazi sow.

Reed is the smartest person but Hank is the best scientist.

He wants to make the impossible possible. And does.

Reed is the explorer who just wants to make discoveries.

so if you had to rate their intelligences among characters

Reed is the smartest man, numero uno

Black Panther is the greatest polymath

Pym is the greatest pure scientist

Tony is the greatest pure engineer

would that be somewhat accurate

I believe Banner is in there as well, especially after the whole Intelligencia thing. As for labelling him, guess he's Marvel's physicist?
