Anyone else find it curious that the metacritic for this game is 81 based off 13 reviews... all of which but 1 is positive? I feel like I saw a lot of negative reviews and yet... here we are

So I'm finally trying out co-op missions and doing it solo cause it's not finding any co-op partners for me. Anyone know how to get max rewards? In one of the missions I did I could only get 3/4 sync points and only 1/3 gear.

Also tried out one of the difficuly 5 missions solo that was an escort mission. Failed as soon as the snipers showed up while I was protecting them from the enemies on the street.

I am someone who kind of got bored of the same old Assassins Creed gameplay mechanic/formula after AC3 (didn't complete it because of this). Black Flag was something a little different which I like

My question is how simliar gameplay wise is AC Unity to the old AC games?

Have they introduced enough new gameplay mechanics that make the game feel different enough, for someone who got bored of the same gameplay formula used in the other AC games?

Stealth, combat and parkour have been revamped. So mechanics that aren't new to the series feel fresh. Combat especially, way more intense and difficult.

The game is pretty much a return to the AC2 formula.
The difference is that this time there are some quality side quests structured with a story and interesting characters. A bit like Bethesda's RPGs.
Controls have been refined but the core gameplay is the same, it's not a revolution.
So if you got bored with the formula you won't find dramatic changes.

The checkpointing in missions seems pretty lousy at times, particularly in the Assassination missions. Certainly makes the game feel a little extra tedious.

I like the Assassin's Creed series a lot, and for the most part, I have liked what I've played of Unity, but silly things like this sloppy checkpoint design and the technical issues are really making it tough to get truly invested into the game.

you have to buy money pouches to be able to throw money on the ground...what the complete fuck

Wait a moment. The once unlockable upgrades that you got from previous AC games simply by collecting enough collectibles or what not, is now something you have to pay $$$ to get??????

Bro its not a big deal. Just pay like $5.00 and you can unlock the ability to worthlessly throw money!

there are crowd events that have u giving money to beggars, I think thats how you do it. There is also a trophy for throwing a certain amount on the ground

not real money. Its a consumable u have to buy from the shops like any other ammo. So you essentially pay money for ammo to throw money on the ground

They need to cut the NPC's down. That many is seriously not needed. It only makes the game run worse..And walking through crowds suck. You bump into everyone and can't just push them out the way like in older AC games. Whats up with that?

I agree and wanted to add that I think movement in general is much worse than past AC games. Which is pretty bad because it has always been janky.

Also where the hell is the whistle or some other attract method

hahaha this is too funny
So now you need ammo to throw money lol! :D
Ubisoft really?!?!

In the next game, there will be a 'parkour meter' that gradually empties as you do parkour. You will no longer be able to parkour once it is depleted and Ubisoft will decide that you will need to buy 'ammo' to refill your parkour meter :D

Yup I'm extremely frustrated now, my saves got corrupted or whatever twice when I came back to play so I've restarted the game 3 times, even switched to french voice language to keep it fresh. Each time I played for 3 or 4 hours.
after the second time I thought it was the Uplay cloud syncing that was messing it up so I turned off cloud syncing. After my last session now I relaunched just to check and sure enough it restarted from the beginning. So something's wrong that's not because of the cloud.
Doesn't seem to be a widespread problem so doubt Ubi will fix.
This is why I hate games that don't let you manually save. After playing through the first 4 hours 4 times I'm done with this game.
And I was really enjoying it too :(. Maybe I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling but right now I've lost all my energy for this game. I don't wanna steal any more fucking apples. Or tail guy to find King of Beggars, or climb the same Notre Dame for like the 6th time.
Now I'm just gonna wait on Dragon Age, at least I don't expect to have any issues with that game, since they bothered to complete it before shipping.

Anyone create a PS4 club yet? Not sure how to join one, but I'll join tomorrow if a GAF crew is available.

Played a game of co-op----LOVED it. Super fun. I'll definitely miss the multi player from black flag and other entries, but this is an awesome addition.

Frame rate took a giant dump several times playing on PS4 tonight, but it's not the norm.

Game looks fantastic, and the customization stuff alone makes me give this game a nod.

I'll keep on trekking but I like it so far.

The game design feels really old, like if you changed the graphics and told me I was playing any previous Assassin's Creed game, I'd believe you. The usual control issues are still there, with Arno stumbling his way around simple objects, and ancient "challenges" such as waiting for the wind to stop throwing shit at you... it's as if Ubisoft's developers have learned nothing over the years and are just throwing out the same old. If this is what they consider to be the next generation of Assassin's Creed, then I'm very disappointed.

Get some new blood, Ubisoft.

I understand that you need Helix credits to purchase maps for collectible locations, upgrade your weapons and that you can buy Helix credits with real-world money.

My question is, can you get Helix credits freely in the game itself if effort is made to do missions or what not, or is it scarced and they have made Helix credits pretty much only obtianable from micro-transtions?

The whistle is corny as hell glad they dropped that. They do need to jack something from other stealth games like knocking on walls or throwing objects to make noise.

At a point though it makes since (not defending Ubisoft here) but it would makes since that you lose money when you throw money on the ground. Unless they actually did make that happen in the old games. Personally I never use that ability ever unless you have to for a tutorial.

yeah, im pretty sure u lost money in previous games. Now they are making u bundle the money in a pouch, so you are paying for the pouch I guess lol

On PC, how in *the hell* do you start a new game?

There's no option in the menu to make a new profile, to delete the current game, and when I remove the save files manually (in Ubilaunchers save games dir) they get redownloaded from 'the cloud' when I launch the game again

Am I missing something?

Eppy Thatcher

God's had his chance.
Just unlocked the Medieval Legendary Outfit last night... tried it on and it looks good cause it's black but it's not nearly as special as I had hoped.

Will wear it for a while until I manage to unlock the outfit I've seen in trailers (open shirt all hella relaxed lookin) at which point i'll wear that for the rest of the game.

Any ideas on how to unlock that look? I don't see it in the unlockable clothes options. Gonna go through and finish the King of Beggars missions and see if that does it.

You have to disable cloud sync from the uplay settings and delete your save files.

Firecracker bombs. It's silly that there are no other methods, but it's also a good way to provide challenge, limiting how many attracts you can use on the guards. You've got to be a little strategic.

How do I ...well play anything in the unity app?

I have it on my phone, but there's no game here. Just a database and a $1.99 purchase to be made.

Anyone?

You can use assassin points (which you get easily just by doing assassin-y things and completing missions) to upgrade weapons and stuff. I think you can get Helix credits through certain crowd activities as well. In general, the Helix microtransactions are highly unnecessary. Everything gettable can be got fairly easily just by playing normally.

Arno can't figure out how to put his lips together and blow, don't worry he'll be able to learn in the DLC missions for 25 helix credits.

Man, there is just so much to do and some generally good side missions. Paris is huge.
Yeah, Murder Mysteries are pretty awesome.

I also think it was a pretty good design decision to take all the various side quests there were before, assassinations, errands, etc and roll them all into the "paris stories" side quests. Each one has it's own context with unique characters and there is no longer a nameless or random NPC just giving you tasks.

An awesome gaffer gave me a free xb1 code for this so I thought I'd give it a shot. Haven't played one since AC3. They have really upped presentation in the cutscenes. Much more personality to the characters, I feel. Some gorgeous lighting in spots. One thing that irks me when free running and leaping from one thing to the next is Arno's goofy way of floating farther than he should for some jumps. It looks so bad.

Nah I am not sure. Was just skimming through micro-transactins for this game. May be read it incorrectly.
Yep. What you can pay for is to have all locations on the map "right now", without need to explore. That way, you just mark said location in the map and go to it.

Like with everything, you can just unlock the locations by playing the game.

I just started one - search for Neogaf. I'll go ahead and add you, but I can't play any more tonight - work day tomorrow. Feel free to add as many Gaffers as you'd like.

EDIT: looks like you can only add people to your social club who are already on your Uplay friends list (stupid design, but that's Ubi for you). Feel free to pm me here with your Uplay nick and I'll add you in the morning and then send you a club invite.

Think they did it on purpose as a design decision. Unlike previous games it feels like you can literally club up everything. I think they might have had to do it also to get free running down working. Otherwise there would probably be a lot of falling to your death?

What a mess this turned out to be. My brother has played them all and is pretty miffed about its lukewarm reception.

Under the performance issues, the stupid companion app stuff and Ubisoft's PR (and microtransactions, though they really aren't any worse than the microtransactions from III or IV), it's a really good game. The core game design is good, but it's getting overlooked because of all of the negativity surrounding the other issues.

Yeah, just a timesaver thing. It hasn't affected the difficulty/time required to discover everything naturally either, like some games do.

I'm having a ton of fun playing this game in coop and doing heists. It is challenging and rewarding. Me and my cousin who are using the same internet connection barely lag, and he is wireless! Heists give a good amount of money. I'm not having a lot of trouble making Franks. Some of the customization items are locked behind requisites like completing a coop mission, etc. It isn't as bad as one thinks.
