Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

Game is VRAM hungry for sure. I was at 5.5gb used while playing maxed out@ 1080p.
Something's definitely fucky here. I think some people earlier were saying they hit their VRAM cap even when they turned the settings down. I'd venture to guess this isn't how it should be and is the root of the problem.

Alright I'm going to try it. I have nothing else to do today but weep anyway. Will report back when my download is done.

good luck, not suggesting that this is a potential fix or anything but it is working for me *knocks on wood* and I'm reading more and more posts along these lines of the game running way better after validating and downloading.

could it be that the pre-loaded files were an old build of the game ?? maybe a lot of files missing and causing the engine to stall ?? because as I posted last page I had similar experience, butter smooth performance after validating & downloading the game again.

I hope so, but I'm not optimistic about that. Still, I'm downloading the game again: let's see if it works this time (though I'll have to wait 10 hours or so in order to do it :( ).

Going to post this again to try and get an answer.

This user on the steam forums posted this

I'm prepared to try this unless someone flat out tells me don't bother. Download will take a good 5+ hours though so....

Honestly sounds like bullshit to me and how can the dude be satisfied at constant whooping 30 fps with such a rig?

Is it confirmed textures are worse than the PS4?

I have a fucking 980ti WB, a graphics card basically more powerful than the PS4 and Xbone combined. Why the hell are textures LOWER than for consoles?

posts like this are killing me b/c I have the same setup and want that 60fps so might have to try. Cant buy on steam for refund b/c much cheaper elsewhere....

I would say to wait. I don't know what I've done "right" to achieve this and it could end up not working as well for you for whatever reason. I'm just bloody lucky by the looks of things.

I'm sorry guys. But anyone saying this game looks bad is purely saying it out of spite for it not running right. I have some of the most gorgeous screens @ 4k you'll see this generation.

Let's just hope for patches to fix the performance/crash issues.

Really? I might have to try this....

My initial impression was bad, but the game started growing on me, it looks pretty good.

Nvidia smoke is fucking impressive.

As it stands it's not worth much with this performance.

They saddled the PC version to some PC port factory I forgot the name of. Game came out garbage, because Rocksteady couldn't bother see if their baby was being taken care of.

So right now I'm pretty convinced the stuttering becomes worse as you play. Did the first Riddle racing challenge, things were just fine, went up to the surface and holy shit it became unplayable. The game would freeze for several seconds, constantly. Just what the fuck. Just what the fuck. This game is unplayable.

I don't think the game looks bad, but I wasn't all that impressed with it when I was playing it - it seemed to look better in the videos I saw prior to launch. I expected it to look quite a bit better.

Yeah as expected: 4555 files failed to validate. I'm guessing the extra two files (since I've seen 4553 posted) was the godforsaken splash movies I renamed. Now I'm redownloading 33.8gb which should take about 5 hours on my connection. I'll report back.

Same here tbh. It looked better in the GameWorks promo videos I watched recently. On top of that I loaded it up and all I could see was the chromatic aberration on Batman's fucking chin.

That's what happened to me. The first 45 minutes was great, but then it slowly got worse and worse. By the time I got to
Ace Chemicals
, it was unplayable.

Sounds even worse than AC Unity, lol.
Takes some skill to do worse than Ubisoft and Assassin's Creed.

The AA is terrible. It just looks off. And I have everything maxed including Gameworks. Gameworks does bring life to it tho.

Textures are bad. "Normal" is the highest option in the settings menu. Just terrible.

I've been playing at 1440p with it locked to 30fps (unlocked in the ini and limited with Afterburner) on a single 970. Once I turned off all the Gameworks stuff and AA it ran much smoother. I'll try turning them on one by one tonight after work to see which are the most demanding/problematic. If anyone wants to do it, go ahead.

It looks damn good at times and other times it doesn't look too hot, especially when textures don't load in. The film grain, CA and motion blur is what was making me hate how it looks at first but after a few hours my brain has gotten accustomed to it and enjoy how it looks. Wish I could still turn it all off for a cleaner look though. This is like the dirtiest looking game ever to me when I fire it up.

Pretty sure I've got a boost from making the process high priority. I'm 3 hours in and it's great except for the bouts of stutter every so often and the cutscene framerate is really bad at times!

Is the in-game benchmark test any useful? I turned on everything to the max I could (except for paperworks or whatever it is called). Minimum 49, max 60 (vsync) average 59.

If I had the verify files crash that made me have to re-download the game, is it safe to verify the files once it has installed again? I played for ~30 mins this morning but never tried to verify them again after the fuck up last night.

Bold statement considering how many years generation has left in it, but I'm more surprised if 4k becomes viable single GPU gaming resolution for PC during this gen. Currently you need SLI/CF very hi-end cards for acceptable 4k gaming performance, also cost of 4k monitors is still absurd.

Currently 4k isn't your target resolution for PC gaming, it's for enthusiasts and I'm not saying it's bad thing. I just think that some people treating 4k gaming as "current PC gaming standard" is absurd.

Edit: With single GPU I mean <500€ GPU's

You can't say you have some of the most glorious screens and then not post them...

Yeah, sometimes it doesn't look all that great, but then at other times it looks awesome. I think it partially depends on what part of the city you're in. I think the character models are also widely variable in quality.

So today it's running better. It's not quite the stuttering steaming mess that it was last night, and i'm not getting the audio glitching and dropping out anymore, but the framerate is definitely not sticking to the locked 30 in the batmobile and I think there's definitely a memory leak as framerate problems seem to get worse the longer I play.

It doesn't look bad of course but it's not all that. and some faces look absolutely ridiculous, Batman included, looks like a baboon making a duck face, or like some 4 year old hand painted his lips.

I don't think it looks bad but it definitely is not the looker I expected it to be from videos. Character models feel like a step back from the previous games.

My opinion may change the more I play it though.

For me, It's not that the game looks bad (though there are poor elements like AA implementation and some less than desirable texture work). It's just not at a level visually to justify the level of performance people are seeing or the necessity to lock the game at 30fps.

That honestly sounds like a potential issue. It would be nice if a borked pre-load was the culprit as that would be easily solved. Here's hoping that's the case and that a quick patch fixes the other issues.

I think it's just a bit broken. I didn't preload, I downloaded it earlier today. I had constant crashing getting in to or out of the Bat Mobile, which seem to stop when I turned off the Gameworks stuff.

I get the slowdown when using the Bat Mobile or panning around whilst gliding. I'm on Windows 10, with the Arkham nVidia drivers they released. Using a 980 and a 2600k. Runs at 60 some of the time, I've seen much less though.

I just did the verification, it said the same, 4k failed and will be reacquired. So, I'm basically downloading 33gb again. I guess I'll get to play it again in an hour and a half.

Sure it is. The game is doing a shit load of stuff never before in a game. We wanted games to push the boundaries and Nvidia is seeing to it that we get glimpses of where they are headed. Hairworks/Faceworks/Gameworks stuff is clearly a generation ahead of todays highest end hardware -- but it's something we gotta look forward to.

The early segments of BatmanAK were horribly lit and textures were bland. But once he's out on the street, it looks just like those reveal trailers.

Ok, so why am I getting pretty much identical performance when turning Gameworks off?

I thought that was a possibility, but the Steam build id of the game after cache verification is the same (668138). Steam assigns a build id to game branches automatically and it's a number that increases across the board, so it's impossible for a game to be updated without its build id changing and no two games have the same build id.

I thought SLI was broken, i have same setup as you just with 1 680.

getting ~40-60fps on high (med textures, no gameworks), completely playable for me.

Weird. With SLI on, both cards are used, but I get worse performance. With 1 card, performance is much better. At least it tends to hover around 30 FPS instead of dipping to the teens every now and again. It's not good enough for me, but it's noticeably better nonetheless.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the only SLI option is Force Alternate Rendering 1? That's odd, considering I'm on the latest NVIDIA drivers...
