Batman AK PC Perf Thread of DARKNESS, NO SETTINGS [30fps cap / intro removal in OP]

Well unlocking the framerate and enabling the Half refresh adaptive vsync option in Nvidia control panel seems to be the best bet for now.. its locked 30fps this way (At least on 60hz monitors) but its running smoother than before.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing as well. 144Hz monitor so I have it locked at 1/3 (48fps). Works great so far.

edit: I'm doing it via nvidia inspector

Runs good for me. Gtx 970, Cpu is i5 4690k, don't normally but loaded this game on my sdd so maybe why runs so well. Also on my tv so limited to 1080p, cap the frame rate at 60fps and game looks great. Chugs a bit on bat mobile sections, but still a love 30fps

There is a bunch of interesting things in the INI-file. Has anyone tried playing around with those as far as graphics goes?

B-Dubs

No Scrubs
So.
- In-game benchmark tool runs with unlocked framerate, actual game is locked to 30fps by default. Logic?
- Missing Ambient Occlusion and lower quality wet shader effects( batman coat and mask ) compared to consoles.
- Horrible stuttering and slow texture streaming. Crashes.
- Can't verify steam game cache without redownloading whole game.
- Missing language packs which are listed at steam store page( no Russian subtitles available atm )
- Only Normal texture option is available. Worse textures than console versions(?).
- Memory hog(Leaks?).
- Unable to hold steady 30fps even on lowest available settings( FX8120@4.6ghz + GTX 970 + 12GB RAM )
- SLI performance is worse than single card even after special nvidia update and game ready drivers.

What the fuck happened? My guess they just uploaded wrong build to steam servers. That happened before with Dead Island, right?

I hope to god this is the issue, if it is then it's an easy as shit fix and we'll be playing it perfectly in a day or two. Honestly though, I doubt it. It's more likely Iron Galaxy fucked everything up and Rocksteady themselves will have to dive in and fix everything.

I hear you get horrible crashes if you mess with anything other than the frame rate.

Loaded the game up with the 30FPS cap back on in the .ini, and it was running great. About 15 minutes in, the stuttering started in again and 10 minutes later was unplayable.

For those who don't want to wait or want something new to play, it almost sounds like you're trying to make excuses simply because it be patched later? Apologies if I'm wrong but it seems that's what you're saying.

there's no excusing a game not being fully functional day one

that said, gamers who are upset by this can find themselves less upset if they do not buy games day one. Games are more complex than ever before increasing the likelihood that games launch on fire, like AK. So if what you'd like is a better experience (and to save yourself some time, money, and headaches) you'd just hold off. It's pretty simple

If you can't hold off then you have options. As i said earlier, if you want publishers to get the message then vote with your wallet. Refund the game, write a review discussing what terrible shape the current state of the game is, etc. Put that frustration to work and eventually something has to come of it.

Is this method better than using RivaTuner to cap it at 30? That's what I was using last night, won't be able to test any of this for another couple of hours.

Yeah, they released a developer's build or something so it had special options like third person (which looked hilarious).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXmZX8iz2SE

However, from what I recall as I had that game day one, it still functioned and performed fine.

This game is a whole other issue. If it's the wrong build, I hope it's a really old one because that leaves hope that there was plenty of time for optimization between then and now.

Let's not kid ourselves, though. It's probably just a shitty port job.

Man it's so crazy everyone is having such a rough experience with this game.

It's been so smooth for me so far(1080p30fps) on my 7950 :/

I don't know what gives

I'm running it on R9 280 (rebranded 7950) and installing the new AMD drivers helped a great deal, but it's still has some terrible stuttering. At least it's kinda playable right now.

Well I'm giving up

2500k @ 4.4Ghz
7970Ghz Edition 3GB
8Gb RAM

I've tried varying resolutions from 720 x 480 to 1920 x 1080 with different combinations of settings and at no point is the game stable., in fact there barely seems to be any difference in performance even at low resolutions.

I think when you put my rig to 720p and put everything to low and the game still frequently dips below 20 ( and even sub 10) then it's nothing to do with hardware and it's just the game that's fucked.

It's telling that the only acknowledgement we have had is a throw away PR response from a community manager on their forum. I doubt they would have been as silent if the console versions were equally fucked.

If anything, this experience will more than likely cause an uptick in purchasing from Steam at the expense of GMF/Nunveem/etc. even with their deep discounts because of the possibility of a refund from Steam.

That's a pity, because there is a whole section called [SystemSettingsScreenshot] that seems to have much higher settings than the main section.

Lol holy shit I'm getting 50 to 60 fps flying around the city. No stutter but I did have a dip in the one fight I've been in. There was a little stutter going into a cinematic but it went away quick.

Haven't hopped in the Batmobile yet.

1080p
Tri x OC 290
8gb ram
Ssd
Can't remember the cpu but it's no slouch

Man game is gorgeous. Framerate can fluctuate at times, but I think the city looks amazing with all gameworks features on - makes a surprising difference.

This is on a Titan X 4790K 32GB RAM (dev system too hence huge RAM) at 1080p

If the game performs this badly now, I wonder how it would have been if they had put AO in.

Maybe that's why it was taken out? It was simply irreparably broken (by their incompetent selves) on top of an already messed up port.

The game is at least playable for me, but not nearly as good as it should be.

I'm starting to think this is mainly an Iron Galaxy fuck-up. Why didn't Rocksteady just do it in house?

I'm golfing up near Highgate tomorrow, maybe I'll drop by and give them a visit.

Unreal Engine 3 has a lot to do with the graphic performance issues we are seeing. The ridiculous texture streaming issues are inherent to UE3. You can add more modern effects to UE3 but you can't tell me with a straight face that it will handle modern effects better than UE4 or CryEngine will. The two latter engines are much more efficient at handling modern effects and beat UE3 in efficiency.

You misunderstood what I was saying. I'm saying that the performance hiccups could mostly be due to the coding of whatever they decided to add. And yes, you can make an UE3 game stress hardware to it's limits.. quite easily. Just double the resolution of all the maps being stored (i.e. shadow, normal, texture, etc..) double the amount of geometry on screen at once. Make every light a shadow caster, etc.. etc..

The game seemed to run fine for me with the default frame limit and borderless windowed (having played 30 minutes or so). Anyone else who would recommend the nvidia control panel solution over the default frame limit?

Just an update

Steam now got over 4000 user reviews, positive reviews went down from 31% to %29

even some broken access games don't go below %30 positive. insane and well deserved for this mess.

What WB need to do now is to issue a statement apologize for this port and promise a patch in a week or so (and let Rocksteady themselves or other competent studio make it)

I wonder, will Iron Galaxy have any repercussions for this? Does a contract job like this have any stipulations as to how well the game should run or something? Just curious how technical they get. Would releasing a half baked port like they did fulfill the typical contract?

seems like it's just that Iron Galaxy don't know what they are doing here, it's not just the lack of any ambient occlusion but also the AA they put in the game is awful and texture filtering is pretty iffy as well.

This is a High Voltage Software-Tier port.

The bolded makes very little sense. They have extensive experience with UE3.

You need to hit up the reseller you purchased the game from. Retail copies seemingly come with two keys (a post-release game key and a pre-order DLC key).

I got it with nvidia promo (when they first announced it) so i had no way to pre-purchase it to get the DLC, i did get the New 52 Skin Pack

Although I'm not having any issues with the game this whole experience has made me second guess buying games anywhere other than Steam even if they are way cheaper. Being able to refund games is a huge perk I'm going to weigh much more heavily from here on out.

You know I really doubt it's just about Iron Galaxy being incompetent. My current theory is that WB just didn't give them enough time for a proper port and didn't want delays either.

Did High Voltage Studios get any repercussions for MKX on PC?

There's definitely no ambient occlusion on PC in that video. At 2:45, look inside the jet engine of the batmobile. Dark on X1 and PS4. Bright on PC.

heh...I really want to see this hit "Overwhelmingly Negative," haven't seen that for a game yet.

Of course there will be repercussions, contractual or otherwise. When I do consultancy work we have fees paid pre and post deliverables, and the post work fees can and will be withheld until contractual obligations are met.

Hahahaha oh man it dips but nothing crazy when I get the Batmobile going. So far it's running great.

What the hell is up with this port.
