Batman: Arkham Knight Gameplay Video – Time To Go To War

Does anyone else think Rocksteady is likely going to do a Superman next gen game after this one. Surely Warner Bros will now slowly start reviving their other properties just like they are doing with film? I cannot imagine they will get Rocksteady to do an original non super hero IP at this point.

I'm waiting for the "Arrow DLC" announcement. They already have the Red Hood DLC with him being able to shoot people so why not have Oliver skewering and trick arrowing mfers?

The game looks good and I understand that people are hyped for it. But somehow I am not a bit excited. Something is wrong with me.

I'm more surprised about the change in terrain. The entire GCPD building wasn't there before, seemingly.

They evacuated city because of Scarecrow you can see that in first trailer.

Thanks, didn't keep up with what's happening in the game beyond knowing they created a supervillain for this.

I feel it's a bit of a shame they find an excuse to empty the streets in every game. Batman is a vigilante, if they stay true to the movies he should be able to help people in the streets. Maybe for next gen...

I really gotta get it on PC, hopefully will be able to lock it to 30fps, and visually make it look insane. I liked the Batmobile section this go around- laser targets everywhere, some neat dodges, and that missile finish! I'd say I was ready for this- but I've got to pull away from The Witcher 3, if that's possible!

Finally watched this video. The detail in first segment as the player's gliding through the city is impressive. Even if this was merely "captured" on a PS4 devkit, it's still really great to me.

Everything else looks great except for the combat. The series has always had little trails streaming from Batman while he flies around a room, but here they're even more pronounced and it looks odd. It seems like Batman's been sped up, but it could just be the upped fidelity/more realistic look clashing with the unnatural speed — it's probably better to play than it is to watch. There are more abilities showcased like the mid-combo smoke bomb and the "critical" moves, which is good. The attack hits don't have that thunder sound effect from past games which may contribute to it seeming insubstantial to me. That sound effect lacking in Origins made it evident that it just made the final hits seem more satisfying. Here, the combat seems the least impressive thing being showcased, and I felt the same with the previous "Officer Down" gameplay trailer. The Batmobile gameplay looks comparatively exciting, but that could be because it's something new whereas combat in this series isn't.

Yeah, the critical hit trails coming off Batman used to be red, now they're red and blue. It's much more noticeable. You can also get critical beatdowns, resulting in a similar impact effect to the one added for final strikes. So when you're playing well Batman is constantly lit up like a SoulCalibur character. You're probably right that it won't seem so bad when actually playing though.

The first bit was incredible in both visuals as in city design. The big fight was interesting as well with a lot of gadgets being used and some insane combos. The last dude got beaten to a pulp, there's no way that guy is still alive.

Unfortunately the Batmobile combat was as terrible as the first time it was shown. So boring.

Also - Batman totally killed that person he slammed into while driving to GCPD to drop off Ivy.

One thing I like about the visuals is the rain effect. It looks like it's really raining. I'm saying this because the the rain weather leaves something to be desired in Witcher 3. Haven't seen anything but some pretty light raining so far in that.

Rocksteady also totally nailed the snowfall in Arkham City, there is some amazing sense of depth and you can see the winds gushing.

Seeing the snow and the lights reflecting on it looks pretty incredible. Really well done.

Agreed. The game is looking good visually.

I'm trying to play AC on PS3 (it runs pretty terribly :s) and its just not grabbing me like Asylum

Anyone else felt that way and came to like it later on? Maybe I should play it on PC for a smooth performance
I have no idea when I bought it on Steam lol

No doubt the additional performance (provided you'r pc is up for it) will make the experience more enjoyable, but while I liked City I do echo your sentiments that it wasn't quite as gripping as Asylum for me.

Yea, this is a good question.

Materials look really good. Look at this screen for instance :

Or this one :

I can't be sure if they use PBR but it seems likely, there is no 360/PS3 versions after all so they can fully focus on high quality content creation.

Flying looks awesome, graphics look nice (some moments looked fantastic when flying and some of the street lighting and indoor areas with nice lighting). I also like that cool blue line effect when he throws punches and kicks sometimes.
His basic moves have some pretty fun animations.

PS4 footage showed a lot of smoke (barely any visibility while he was attacking) and it seemed to hold up well - throws the smoke bomb here. And it said directly from PS4. Very nice.

Car combat...doesn't look very tactical at that difficulty but I like the movement switching and the way it seemed to drive and turn (and spin :)). Hopefully that was just for the video to show batman unleashing carnage...but I'd like some combat races and tactical vehicle combat (no more than twisted metal...but not just sitting there in the same spot and taking out 50 tanks lol - their explosion style effect are nice though).

Not sure about the lore and that...does the girl usually only wear panties?

I know what someone said about another openworld game but the story telling is pretty good in Batman, should be okay...take breaks :P

Yeah, me. My initial impression of Arkham City was that there were too many things going on at once and I felt overwhelmed after rushing through the main game at a friend's house.

Then I spent more time with both games, realized City was a much better experience and made this thread.

Yes, they do look good. I was actually impressed with MK:X and it's use of materials and that's an UE3 game too.

I haven't been too impressed by Mortal Kombat X visually, I think it looks "plastic" unlike Arkham Knight.

That said you can easily tell it's running UE3 even when the game was unveiled.

I like UE3, great performance, can do pretty great visuals...with enough nice lights...which probably ruins the great performance, ha.

It's a shame that they didn't have limited editions for PC. I bought one for my XB1 and I'm pretty sure it won't end up anywhere near those screens from the original reveal up above. The PC version probably won't either, but it'd be much closer.

.

I feel it's a bit of a shame they find an excuse to empty the streets in every game.

They'd have to deal with the consequences of Batman running over civilians with the batmobile then.
Would open up a number of variables devs would understandably have a hard time dealing with.
Would mean major gameplay changes.

I know this is fiction but the guy tweet is just.. really? Batman is not the law. It's not up to him to decide what these thugs deserve. Everyone deserve a fair trial.

Huh? It's the game director... And the whole premise of these games is Batman laying the punishment on thugs.

Instead of free-flow combat, do you want him to have a heart-to-heart chat with the goons about their life choices?

Yeah, considering how every Arkham thread seems to have people concerned with Batman being too loose and rough with the lives of criminals, I don't think we're ready for a Batman game with citizens on the streets.

Still debating on if I should get this on PC or PS4. Not sure how it'll run on my PC or be optimized any good. i5 3.3 GTX680 8GB should be able to do solid 30fps with everything almost ultra settings I'm guessing - but then again - not sure if it'll be optimized well.

There's way too much space between the bottom of his nose and his top lip.

There's no way his face was designed before they put the cowl on him, and that's probably how it should be done.

The mask lifts his nose up...to help him breathe.

/random excuse

Strange how people think differently about the batmobile. I honestly wasn't that hype for this until I saw that batmobile combat. I love how there's tracers and you can strafe in your car to dodge them. Looks really fun to me.

Why didn't he kill the first guy in the video then, he deserved it right? Why even combat the thugs just carry a gun and clean the city.

It make since for batman to kill the thugs in the car but not using a gun to kill other thugs because reason.

The new consoles make people realize how terribly poor the performance got near the end of last gen. From what I recall, AC had plenty of micro stutter on PC when you glide around the city. Even with a capable rig. So, pick your poison.

How do you know the thugs in the car are dead? A lot of people bring up Batman being too brutal in these games but the thugs themselves aren't built like straws. Nearly all of them are buff dudes accustomed to fighting.

Of course this is all speculation, but it's is a video-game. If you got too hung up on whether the goon broke his neck after falling from the gargoyle, you wouldn't have too much fun..

Batman hit the car in such a way that he knew the criminals inside would be okay. He knows how to do that, he's Batman.

...

Hill's comment was a joke. It's a video game.

I don't have a problem with Uncharted or any other game, as I said its fiction but the director justification in the tweet is off to me that's all. As you said its a video-game and this is not my first Batman game from Rocksteady.

The appeal for me with MK:X is surely the self-shadowing on the characters. Shadows are so very very important to image quality. Yea, I agree the specular BRDF looks rather bland.. but at least they are able to differentiate silk from metal.
