Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Batman is my favorite hero and I also hope that's true.

It's fucking dumb how many people have died because Batman refuses to kill. I've never found a character's refusal to kill interesting. All it does it annoy the shit out off me.

The DC Comics Cinematic Universe train has now officially left the station, but let’s hope that someone besides Snyder gets to steer, lest the whole thing jump the track and plow through the middle of the depot.
.

I'm still going to see this film to decide for myself, but it sounds like DC still hasn't found its footing in the movie industry. I really wanted this movie to do well with the critics. Some of these reviews are brutal.

How is that good?

If he kills there's likely contextual reasoning. I don't adhere to BUT HE CAN'T DO THAT garbage. I was fine with Superman super breaking Zod's neck, there was a reason for it IMO and I'm sure the same will apply here. It just doesn't bother me at all.

On Batman:

FUCK

ZACK WHY WHAT THE FUCK

Save us, Capt.

I'm baffled by why anyone expected any different. Snyder isn't that good a director, WB were trying to rush into their cinematic universe, the trailers looked like shit, Henry Cavill is a plank of wood, etc. I'm going with a bunch of mates on saturday and my expectations were incredibly low.It might not even meet them.

It's been a while since I read DKR, I remember
him only killing the Joker (which worked in the story), but forgot about any guns. I'm thinking on the tank he uses to fight the mutants?
Well, he is a lot more savage in the dark Knight returns but I don't remember if he outright kills anyone there. Just remember him being on another level of brutal in it

But yeah, something something rubber bullets

In DKR
he only paralyses the Joker, who then proceeds to kill himself. The tank fires - and I quote - "rubber bullets. Honest." Though there is a moment where Batman uses a machine gun on a thug which looks like a pretty obvious murder.

and what is your opinion on this movie?

First half is bad. Second half is really good.

Too much going on. They crammed it with two movie's worth of content. Too dense.

Cavill is OK. I like Affleck and Gadot a lot. Eisienberg is good. There's potential there. Snyder nails action but misses on most of the rest.

It's all set up. They sacrificed this movie to get DCU up and running.

No doubt David S Goyer's career will continue to go from strength to strength, placed on every project you might otherwise be interested in from now on.

Never watched Man of Steel, and not going to bother now. Hopefully Suicide Squad is good.

MoS is the 2nd or 3rd best comic book movie of all time in my opinion. Don't let other people's opinions inform your own.

I KNEW people would hate that Batman thing
Knew it knew it KNEW IT

Because it completely shatters his character. His no-killing rule isn't just some moral code, it's a symptom of the psychological trauma that made him the Batman. If you take that away then he's just the fucking Punisher. Batman being a murderer is also a major negative I had for the '89 Batman film.

Why? Fucking why? Is this really true? can anyone here who's seen it confirm? I mean what the fuck Snyder.

Your answer:
100% True and worst of all is it's never explained or given context, he just does it and we sit back and have to say "ok then..."

Well I'll have BB and TDK blu rays ready to fire up when I come home Thursday night just in case...sigh.

I feel like a pathetic nerd for saying it, but fuck Snyder. Seriously, fuck that guy. Why'd they give him the keys to the kingdom? They just may have just fucked DC's cinematic future big time.

Looking forward to Suicide Squad, at least the director for that has a proven track record.
The thing is... I feel like Snyder has a kind of style and taste that is not entirely without merit... He has a grimdark sensibility that could work somewhere. But he is so wrong for superhero movies.

I feel like the world suffers because Snyder is a successful director who happens to be a DC fanboy. It doesn't matter that his style and sensibility is so wrong for DC, he gets the job...

BR, theatrical cut is not that good. Kingdom of heaven theatrical cut no one liked. Both have cuts released later that are glorious.
Much like Snyder, Scott working with a shitty script will get you a bad movie (or do you think Prometheus is a good movie?). But Scott working on something decent will get you a decent flick (Dawn of the dead).

Stop.

Snyder doesn't even come close to any of the brilliant movies that Scott has directed in his lengthy career, even his so called "shit" movies are brilliant when compared to the majority of Snyder's work. Also, the theatrical cut of KoH is pretty great the director's cut is just simply phenomenal. Additionally, Scott only recently started to put out crap like Prometheus and Exodus at his old age and yet still manages to crap out The Martian when he decides to care.
