Can someone photoshop Reggie's head and legs attached to the Joycon Grip? With the caption "My body is ready"?

The grip looks like a stocky torso with stubby arms and I can't unsee it

Well you don't really just reveal a console playing previous gen games, and either not make the console somewhat backwards compatible or re-release those games for a new gen.

Really hard to see them announcing Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 9. Guess we'll see though. These could be all new games I guess.

The thing is, and this is not the first time I've seen you trying to hammer this point home, that this crowd you mention is not as big as you think it is and its existence does not nullify the amount of people that interested in Nintendo IPs. You're failing to credit just how big Mario and Pokémon are as brands because the Wii U bombed. The Wii U bombed for a combination of factors, like it happened with the Gamecube, but that does not exclude the relevance of these franchises.

It remains to be seen whether Nintendo can captivate this non hardcore gamer community. They did with the Wii. They did with the DS. And to a certain extent they did with the 3DS.

Looks pretty slick. Hopefully they have a direct or whatever soon that showcases some new games and gives a release roadmap to show they have learned from the droughts.

Skyrim ect doesn't interest me but if Splatoon/MK8 or other Wii U ports are reasonably priced I'm in. Thank god Mario NX seems to be a step away from the 3D Land design.

I can understand the tablet side for families, but about the phone side:

1. Those big phones are already pushing it and the Switch is even bigger and has buttons and sticks on top of it.
2. There are still people that won't go bigger than 5.2 inch for their phones even.
3. Switch won't replace those phones. People will still keep using their phone and that phone can already play games. So you expect people who already use huge phones to carry an additional huge ass handheld gaming device?

Also, that family tablet is also used by the parents in most cases. It can run other types of apps. Millions of those. It's to be seen if the Switch will replace that. If not, it's also an additional tablet, not one that will replace it. It'll replace the 3DS I'd guess.
 
Since it is quite large, I do hope they have some nice looking carry cases, or more ideally for my needs sleeves or smart covers to protect it when it's in my backpack.

Then again, I'm cheap as fuck and I just wrap a tshirt around my tablet when I put it in my backpack...

I'm not too concerned about smaller projects or midlevel projects going away. I'm hopeful at least you won't have to be concerned here. Just in the sense that the DS and 3DS games with their current assets look very very good in HD already. Evidently the assets had more detail to them than they appeared. Nintendo has been better than ever this gen at offering experiences from bite-sized to fully fledged so I'm hopeful we'll still see a good variety of HH-esque and console-esque game projects, as well as smaller eShop only games as well.

And how is this hybrid beneficial to me? The custom tegra chip makes it harder for devs to port games on it and we all know how it ended with the Wii U. It was just to slow and Publishers have already a 60 Mio. fanbase with ps4 and xbox one. So why would they need to support the Switch?

In the end you have a home console which is way to weak, because it has to be portable. But you don't want to play big home console games on the go, because they don't fit. It was the same with the Vita. Uncharted was a great game on the Vita. But why should I play it on the Vita when I could theoretically play it on my big screen with a great sound? The argument also works the other way. I don't need to play Pokemon on the big screen, because it's already looking bad on the small screen and you have different expectations on the big screen.

I'm not convinced.

This isn't a mid-gen optional upgrade of existing hardware. This is a complete architectural shift.

So, after trying to pull an all-nighter, failing around 5am, sleeping only a few hours before the reveal, and sleeping on the reveal, I still have a lot to process. I keep thinking about pretty much everything, the functionality, how it's going to feel to play games on it, how absolutely sick the station is going to look in my entertainment center, how great it would be to play a massive virtual console library on... so many things, so many unanswered questions still.

I would expect there to be proper clearance and guide rails that prevent the screen from making contact. If not like a soft felt like material on the screen side.

Would actually be really nice if placing it in the dock cleaned away smudges from the screen.

Yep seeing that comment is weird since im used to big phones everywhere. Even then yeah i'll just carry something if im taking it out with me.

If that crowd is not that big, what sense would to make for Nintendo to chase after them? Those gamers are already being satisfied by Sony, MS and PC. It would be an uphill battle to even crack into that market. Nintendo is playing it right in my opinion by trying to differentiate. They did it with the Wii and succeeded, did it with the Wii U and failed, but even then I think the core business concept is the right now, to carve their own niche. I think the Switch has a chance to be successful not only for this reason, but also because Nintendo seems to be better diversifying and putting those valuable IPs to good use (through Amiibo, and the nes mini, and movies and theme parks and mobile) rather than trying to convince the kid playing Call of Duty to ditch that and play Splatoon instead.

Though presumably, a large part of the intent of Switch is to choose an architecture that can easily be iterated on for all future Nintendo dedicated hardware, so as to avoid having to start from scratch again.

Do you live in a place where PS4 and Xbox 1 doesn't have remasters or PS4 has BC?
 
Mildly excited, honestly. I found the ergonomy of the WiiU tablet to be disastrous, and I feel that this particular device will ellicit a similar reaction from me. But I am willing to give it a shot because of the upcoming Zelda. I just hope that they price it around $249.

It's too soon to tell whether these are enhanced ports with additional content (which they seem to be at the least, which as a product is beyond what Sony or Microsoft or anyone offers for free, though if this sort of content isn't appealing to a player I can totally understand how it seems inconsequential) or whether they are sequels. Also, FWIW, Sony and Microsoft have been plenty happy to release and charge full price for remasters with minimal to moderate changes in plenty of cases (Nintendo, too).
 
Guess I might as well sell the Wii U this weekend. Haven't touched it in 2 months.

Blah. I hate Craigslist. Almost tempted to just trade it to GameStop

I can't imagine the mindset of someone who is actually more excited for the incremental upgrades in the PS4P and Scorpio, which don't even offer new libraries/game ideas, vs the total paradigm shift happening here. I may be drinking the kool-aid hard, but for once I actually buy the pitch for "different vs. more powerful" that Nintendo is making this time, because they're actually highlighting flexibility and diversity of use instead of some gimmicky feature like motion control.

It just feels like such diminishing returns to plunk down a huge sum of money for the console upgrades MS and Sony are offering, compared to what you get with this thing. My train rides are going to be awesome because of this thing. You don't see that, at all?
