Too late to predict the thread, but are the most people disagreeing saying that Nintendo's first party lineup is superior, and holding that Mario Galaxy alone is worth 10 other first party titles? That would be the only way I see a fanboy could come up with an argument against the OP.

To be fair I really wouldn't take this thread seriously.

The vast majority of people in here don't even know what 1st party is.

Rare is about as third party for Microsoft as it was for Nintendo during the N64 days.

And you still have other third parties there.

Well if you include handhelds into the discussion Nintendo wins hands down and its not even close.

With handhelds:
Nintendo>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sony>>>>Microsoft

Without handhelds right after Wii Fit came out:
Nintendo>>>>>>>>>>>Microsoft>>>Sony

Currently after Nintendos terrible lineup after Wii Fit came out:
Sony>>>Nintendo>Microsoft

I know it's frowned upon to say things like, 'Holy fuck this thread is some goddamn stupid shit', but...Holy fuck this thread is some goddamn stupid shit. Seriously.

The PS1 and PS2 were my main consoles but for some reason I've never been a fan of Sony's first party games. They were all technically well done, especially today but something about it just isn't appealing to me. Which doesn't make sense considering it's all very different studios but there's the same feel, I find that quite interesting.

The PS3 is great for a number of reasons, but if I buy one it's not gonna be for Sony's games I think.

I feel like Sony becomes the Microsoft of last gen, putting too much effort on Western shooter and lost what's special about them.

Ratchet, Jak and Sly become Resistance, Uncharted and Infamous. All platformers turn into shooters of some kind.

Then we have Killzone 2. And a heavy emphasis on hardcore artsy downloadable games.

Everything that people relate to a Playstation brand is gone and end up with a lot of less character-driven or mascot title that reminds them 'oh this is Playstation'.

Everything becomes so hardcore now at Sony's console it lost its charm of being the console with the most varied style of games. It still has it share of games from other genre, but so was the original Xbox - people usually relate it as a console with a lot of shooters.

They do, but how many great ones have we seen on the Wii so far? Nintendo's first party output (as far as "core" games go, love that label) for the Gamecube was a MILLION times better than the Wii is at this point.

Gamecube had some great first party games, don't get me wrong - i'm still waiting for something as cool as luigi's mansion or eternal darkness. But all the same, in less than two and a half years we'll have had:

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Wario Ware Smooth Moves
Mario Party 8
Smash Bros Brawl
Mario Strikers Charged
Mario Kart Wii
Excite Truck
Excite Bots (lets face it, it rocks before its even out)
DISASTER: Day of Crisis
Animal Crossing: Lets go to the City
Batallion Wars II
Geometry Wars Galaxies (Nintendo brokered Kuju / Bizarre deal)
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games (leasing Mario characters out to SEGA and publishing in some regions)
Pokemon Battle Revolution
Super Paper Mario
Dr Mario & Germbuster
Endless Ocean
Kororinpa: Marble Mania (NOE published)
Mario Super Sluggers
Punch Out

I'm probably forgetting stuff. Thats in addition to some of the best Gamecube games being given renewed life on Wii, and all the perfectly fun gaming offered by Nintendo's more casually focussed games like Wii Sports, etc. Add the fact that a lot of those series are going online on home consoles for the first time. The third party situation is different (not necessarily better) on Wii (Mad World, FFCC My Life as a King, Crystal Defenders, Crystal Bearers, FFIV the after years, Capcom VS Tatsunoko, HOTD: Overkill, Dead Space Extraction, RE:UC/DSC, Overlord, Indiana Jones, TMNT Smash Up, Dragon Quest X, Monster Hunter 3, Sam and Max, Strong Bad, de Blob, etc)

Sometimes its hard to cut through the shovelware reality to see that it does get lots of good, or potentially good games. The kind of stuff thats sadly missing is Rogue Squadron, or Resident Evil main series, the likes of Viewtiful Joe... a lot of that is simply due to a lot of pubs leaning heavily toward HD development. But Factor 5 have got two wii games in the works allegedly, and there are likely a few years left in the thing for other games to be announced/released.

I'm confident that before Wii HD or whatever is released, Wii will have had the superior library (vs Gamecube)

If we're strictly talking about games developed within the first-party companies, there are quite a lot of games to discount.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl was made by Sora, Hal Labs, and Game Arts, none of which were Nintendo. Resistance and Ratchet & Clank were developed by Insomniac. They aren't Sony. Gears of War is Epic, and they're not Microsoft.

I think to sum up what I want to say is, the games on the PS3 are much less approachable than the games on the PS2. It's not only the price of the hardware that is hard for consumers to get into, the games are also very hardcore compare to last generation.

On retail we have a lot of hardcore shooters, and even on the download side we have all the high-end artsy games like Flower or Pixel Junk Eden.

To me, I feel this is equivalent to giving movie viewers only oscar-level artsy film and not the mass consumers movie like Spiderman or Harry Potter.

Don't get me wrong, I think the games are great, but I just think they are not very approachable by the masses.

Everything about the PS3 give people an image that it is high-end, expensive to afford, hard to approach.

Zelda TP is the 3rd ugliest game of this, and last, generation. It's also quite bad.

It's really quite beautiful. It's very obvious they put so much more effort into TP's graphics and style than any other Zelda's.

Er, what? First of all, what in the hell is "hardcore" about shooters? Also, what? Team Ico games are plenty arty farty (and also quite bad), so it's hardly a new thing for Sony.

It really isn't. The Wind Waker, that was a beautiful game. TP is just another smudged, low res, poorly detailed yet oddly cluttered mess.

I never bought a system for the first-party games so eh.

I bought a PS3 for Sony games, or specifically, games from Insomniac, Sucker Punch, former Psygnosis and Santa Monica Studios. Needless to say, it hasn't been an overwhelmingly positive experience so far.

speaking from a personal perspective--and i should note that i haven't taken a stance in any direction here--most of the games listed in the o.p. are things that fall under umbrellas of games that hold no interest to me whatsoever. the only racing games i've enjoyed in the past ten years have been either burnout or kart-based; it takes a very special kind of shooter for me to be interested, and the the ones that do are typically the ones that deliver unique experiences with a rich fiction underlying that experience (bioshock, half-life series); uncharted, often touted as the lineup's headliner, struck me as a sad mishmash of poor man's gears of war and poor man's p.o.p.: sands of time, buttressed by very nice voice acting that did a good job hiding the fact that the mechanics weren't very strong but not nearly a good job enough.

as for ratchet and clank, i love them, but to say that you can't get your fill of ratchet and clank on ps2 and save yourself the money is just silly.

there are plenty of interesting looking games coming out that make ps3 an interesting and viable option (INFAMOUS, the promise of an eventual SLY COOPER game, whatever team ico releases, etc.), but a bunch of pretty racing games, shooters that are solid for owners of the system but nothing i would play for more than an hour before turning away bored, and some high-definition versions of ps2 games aren't exactly the things that convince me that their first party lineup is the second coming.
