Breaking: Xbox and Microsoft reveal global price increases for consoles, accessories — and even games

$599 for a Series X is fucking ridiculous especially when I can still buy a PS5 Slim Disc w/ Astro Bot for $150 less. They are also charging more than the Pro for the 2TB Series X? Goddamn.

I don't see the pricing for Sony holding out unless they have moved production elsewhere.

And? What was the purpose of this post outside of shitting on Sony? Xbox raises their prices has absolutely nothing to do with Sony.

This actually makes more sense to me. I'm still mad I traded mine for $360
It was in response to a member saying how it was following Nintendo, that's all.
If it makes you feel better, I remember Xbox raising the price of the 360 in 2009 due to currency issues

Microsoft just saved Switch 2.

Now Switch 2 is not over priced because look how much Xbox costs. More than PS5 Pro for 2tb XSX. LOLOLOL!

Suddenly $450.00 sounds great.

I'll recommend this, everyone go out and buy Switch 2 and PS5 Pro ASAP but do not buy Xbox because it is overpriced. If we can look past our emotions, I think these obvious truths become clear. Get while the getting it good people. You should have bought Pro on day 1 like I begged(for your sake, I was merely trying to help you). Instead, we are here. Now the clock is ticking. Buy buy buy!

Casualty of the war against wokeness and DEI. These kind of things sneak their way in. Don't think for 1 second MS is using this to build up Game Pass. Slick bastards!!

Are you in the states? Target has a 15% off any online/in store purchase and despite it saying that it doesn't work on PlayStation accessories it worked on my Edge. I'm gonna use mine to get the SW2 Pro controller.

It makes it $170 USD
How do I use the discount

If you have a Target Circle account (the free one not the credit card or anything) you should see it in your offers and then you can just add it to your cart and it should work.

Technically I used a previous one for the Edge but I added another to my cart to test it and it still works. They give these out every so often.

Nintendo opened the floodgates with the 80 dollar games thing by overcharging for mario kart world aka a barebones and worse version of diddy kong racing. Microsoft are an absolute embarrassment though to think they're going to get away with this when no one gives AF about the brand and they're currently a sinking ship. This is truly one of the dumbest possible decisions they could've made.

Nobody bought those consoles anyway. Not much gonna change lol. Cant wait for sony to raise the game prices to 90 euro aswell. My god i switched to PC gaming just in the right time

Switch 2 is now officially the newest, cheapest (physical based) console on the market.

Should be a very interesting year...
The press was already doing the price comparison between models with a physical media reader before this round of announcements, think now...

I expect Sony to follow suit (PS5 is produced in China).

But then a comparable PC will be $2500.
That's going to be for the XX90 series GPU only. The XX80 will be 1200$, and the XX70 will be around 700$. PCMR will say why pay 1000$ for a console when a XX70 is 300$ less! (don't ask about the rest of the parts you need to make it function)

And certainly Xbox's increases were much easier for them to justify and put out there after Nintendo's announced plans to increase prices across the board for their new platform generation. No doubt it gave them quite a bit of cover. You can't blame Xbox when Sony did this a couple years ago, is likely to do so again given the tariff situation, AND Nintendo (traditionally lower cost than their competitors) are also going high and basically matching Xbox and PS pricing.

$449 = $729 now?

I don't have it

Yep. 100% coming. Will be easy to do so due to the massive increase in perceived value that GP has provided this year.

People keep pushing the view that gamepass is a great value but i have a hard time believing it for one simple reason. How in the hell could anyone play and beat enough games to justify the cost of us monthly when you're a working adult with responsibilities, kids, a husband/wife etc etc. Most people don't have enough time in the day to be able to play games often which results in not being able to play/beat a ton of games monthly.

Fantastic news, finally factoring in the cost of quality and publisher excellence to the RRP, about time. Well done MS! (y) (y)(y)

Gamepass price increase coming soon.

Well switch 2 still is the same price as the ps5 astrobot bundle having ps4+ levels of power.. and just this for me is a huge dogshit value product no matter if xbox costed 1 million dollars.

2tb xsx might cost more than PS5 Pro but look what you get with it. Hit series like Forza Horizon 5, Indiana Jones and Sea of Thieves and Call of Duty. What other console lets you play these triple A games?

Edit, NM. These games are on PS5 pro as well.....and look and play even better on Pro. Fuck me!

One guy I know with Gamepass told me it's the best deal and he just plays Minecraft and Skyrim. I said "Why are you paying $20 a month to play 10+ year old games you could just pay $20 for once?" -- and he was just kinda quiet.

I assume those are people who did the $1 deal.

Fully agree. But that doesn't stop people from going nuts over the potential to play everything. Same goes for people who buy games, and they end up in the backlog. It just doesn't make sense.
Although, I will say that sub services like GP can be good for parents with kids (who do tend to have more time on their hands)

Ya it makes no sense lol. Like to me it just makes more sense to buy a game because i know that it'll take me forever to finish it nowadays because there's no way i can just binge stuff for hrs at a time unless i'm off. People be subscribing to gamepass and playing crap like minecraft and skyrim and it's like 'why' loll.

Please explain how tariffs are causing Microsoft (an American company) to sell Call of Duty (made by Activision, an American company) to increase the price of digital games that have no physical components subject to tariffs.

If anything, this is their time to finally put the nail in the coffin for physical game releases, now that they finally have the excuse they've been looking for all along to create a price gap between physical and digital games.

Must've because i feel like at regular price it's hard to justify it. We all know that gamepass is eventually going to get another price increase too which means the value of it will only get lower. I guess for now it makes sense to get gamepass just because microsoft are raising games to 80 dollars 'dumb af' so you might as well subscribe and pay way less but idk man lol.

I'm a little surprised they aren't announcing a Game Pass price increase.

Although I can't lie, I'm tempted to stock up on a few years worth before the price goes up at this point.

On the bright side.......it is now a great time to sell your Xbox at a higher price.

Never thought I would see the day, that you have to finance consoles. Oh wait, yes we did. Tinfoilers were saying this would happen since the WEF literally TOLD US ALL this was their plan. Unaffordable concerts, festivals, vacations, flights unless you take MMA for Spirit or Frontier airlines, luxury items, etc., for the average peasant unless you leverage more debt to them. No more out of pocket cash purchase of such things.

Xbox games in and of themselves don't really sell anymore anyway, this is just a bummer for collectors more than anything. Game Pass has trained what I assume is a large portion of Xbox players not to purchase to own individual software. But certainly all the games Xbox sells on PC, PS and Nintendo will reap a lot more money for them.

I meant just MS's catalog in general; how many $80 sellers do they really think they have? Minecraft might be a major IP, but no one's buying a spinoff for $80. Forza Motorsport's taken such a reputation hit it's probably going to be shelved as a franchise, but if they made a new entry I don't think many would drop $80 on it until it proves being worth a premium price again.

COD and TES VI are safe bets, I guess. But are TOW2, Fable and Perfect Dark? I think they'd have to show justification first. Might even be the case for Gears E-Day.

Seems clearly tariff related on the hardware stuff.

Software, $80 will just be the new AAA norm, which means all the AA games will raise in price too.

Just because AAA prices might be going up doesn't mean AA will follow in lockstep. Traditionally, that hasn't been the case. And, as always, it'll depend on the scope & budget of those AA games.

We've already seen $50 AA games and that's probably the cap of what we'll see in light of price increases for AAA games, at least for this gen :/

I think this just helps hasten along the end of the current console business model, as we know it. I began to think that after Nintendo's pricing a month ago with the Switch 2 generation. A lot of people will be driven to simply playing already released games, replaying games because of patches and add-ons, and being extremely picky about buying any new pieces of software. If you're buying a game for $80, you're gonna be very selective and very picky, and probably won't do it very often. So that just makes it less likely new games will sell, and when any do, it'll be the exception to the rule, and make it even harder than it is already for any new hits to emerge, outside of established mega franchises.

What all of this will likely actually do directly, is cause a massive contraction in the AAA side of the market. And that contraction will be what causes a potential end to the current console business model.

The problem for consoles is, if they end that business model, they're going to see a major contraction in total customer base. And I'm specifically referring to Microsoft and Sony/SIE here, because Nintendo still follows the practice of actual permanent 1P software exclusivity, something which will shield them from a lot of the negatives related to these price increases. Microsoft have stopped doing exclusives for a while now, but then again they can't wait to get away from the traditional business model altogether anyhow.

It's SIE who are in the odd spot here IMHO; the traditional model has been what's benefited them most over Microsoft and arguably even Nintendo for multiple generations, but between stupid shareholders and BoD pushing PlayStation to port their games to PC, and economic factors outside of Sony's control influencing price increases on hardware & services (though, people like Totoki wanting their margins also plays a part in the reaction to that), they are risking having the traditional model fail on them. And I think at this point, PlayStation would be the most negatively affected. That is, unless they made some changes to certain aspects of their pricing & multiplatform strategy.

In any case, pricing trends this gen and budget bloat of AAA dev isn't sustainable; sometime in the next five years there's gonna be a big contraction, just a question of when and who's most affected. If those who'd be affected don't make some changes soon, well that'll be their mistake.

It's to spread the cost of the tariffs more thinly over multiple regions rather than completely price themselves out of the US.

But how does that work when Xbox barely sells shit outside of America to begin with? It's just higher prices on hardware sitting on store shelves & in channels, at that point.

Tough for me not to believe that these increases (both companies) aren't at least partially related to a series of horrible choices on software that resulted in big losses. Heck, even third party flops cost Sony and MS lost revenue because of their cuts of the revenue.

These brand-homos, I swear. :pie_roffles:

Its just pathetic when MS equivalent high-end model - the 2TB Series X - has been PS5 Pro price from the start... and wait for it... LAUNCHED FIRST.

So even suggesting the Sony egregiously raised the price bar for consoles isn't even supportable when Xbox was there first.

Seems like Microsoft wants to take some heat off their buddy Nintendo. Switch 2 is now only $70 higher than XBS S 512GB and only $20 higher than XBS S 1TB.
