Have you never given a gift card to someone as a gift? It's a thing. Costco will run deals on gift cards, too.

Costco always had 10% off for the PSN, Nintendo and Xbox gift cards and usually ran holiday deals for extra 10% on top of that.

If I had to guess, the Xbox retail team probably delisted all the available SKUs from Costco (I know that vendors pay listing fees to retailers upfront, but not sure whether it's a recurring payment or not tho) and might be getting the inventory back as per the retail agreement.

Nothing else explains this being an order that comes from Costco HQ directly.

If I'm right, that probably means that we're seeing the death of the Xbox brand in US retail.

Selling in stores is the biggest advertisement for any physical product. In most cases if people aren't seeing them, they aren't buying them.

Short-term my guess is they will repurpose the stock to other retailers that will take them, so Target/Amazon etc. In that case apart from the shipping and re-shipping fees they won't take too much of a bath, especially considering they ended hardware subsidies some months ago.

The real issue is long-term, having essentially zero presence at a major US retailer does not bode well for the next Xbox being something that is expected to take lots of marketshare.

Would not even be surprised if they go direct to consumer for that.

With that said, searching for "Xbox Series", I could not find any listings for the actual consoles, just points cards, GP sub cards and some games + controllers.

I can't believe how miniscule the game section is at my local target now. They carry like 2 of each console and a very limited selection of physical games. They keep reducing the area. But it seems they are expanding it with more TVs.

When Uncle Phil says consoles are dead, we now know why. Can't sell consoles if you raise prices in the only region that buys them and then stop selling them in a massive retailer. Phil and his mates getting exactly what they want. Sure as fuck that when next gen arrives, consoles and all those games us idiots purchased that don't work on PC will be stuck on our old consoles forever. Fuck Phil and fuck Microsoft.

Buying prebuilts, GROSS.

I spent years building my own, now I'm old and don't really wanna fuck with all that. Costco is especially nice, because their warranty is ace.

I also got a screaming deal on my prebuilt: 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900F, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 2TB NVMe SSD all for $900. The normal "sale price" was $1,299, but I got the final floor model so the store manager manually marked it down for me and gave me a discount. I definitely couldn't have bought all these components for that price.
