Costco no longer sells Xbox consoles and games

That's a fancy Costco game section.

Costcos all around me got rid of their games section years ago. All that's left are card based stuff ($$$ cards or sub plan cards) and every once in a while there might be a skid of consoles. That's it. They sell a limited amount of stuff online.

Fair selection online for the consoles that actually sell. Literally zero Xbox hardware (not even controllers)online now at Costco.com

Man didn't even see the "Death Star" for the gift cards but they are gone too at least at my location

Just checked one of swedens more popular gaming retailers (webhallen) where I got my PS4 and PS5 at launch and they don't even appear to sell Series consoles anymore. I've noticed them being out of stock for quite a while, so I can't say I'm surprised.
The few retailers I can find that still sell the Series X sell it at almost 1.5x the launch price, whereas PS5 seemingly hovers around 1.1x its launch price.

This is insane!!!

You live in Canada, not the same as USA.

I spent years building my own, now I'm old and don't really wanna fuck with all that. Costco is especially nice, because their warranty is ace.

I also got a screaming deal on my prebuilt: 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900F, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Super, 32GB DDR5 RAM, 2TB NVMe SSD all for $900. The normal "sale price" was $1,299, but I got the final floor model so the store manager manually marked it down for me and gave me a discount. I definitely couldn't have bought all these components for that price.
That is an awesome deal. And even when you start running into VRAM issues, you can easily drop in say 5070 Super, 9070, 9070 XT or the following gen equivalent and be set for years.

Does Cosco sell any prebuilt PC's?
Any good ones?
I was literally just in one a couple of hours ago, just browsing during a work break to see if anything looked worth grabbing. I almost bought a PS Portal before realizing that I just don't need it. Anyway, I did see a pre-built PC that wasn't a bad deal.

I forgot the CPU (probably latest intel/AMD), but it had 32gb DDR5, and an MSI (I think) 5080, for around $2,600 USD. You could probably build one for less, but again, $2,600 isn't terrible for a brand-new, no-hassle (meaning, building it yourself) setup. Plus, it probably comes with a great warranty.

First xbox gen i never bought.

Not a sign but i sure as fuck buy everything else

Same

Before the PS5 Pro came out, I almost bought a Series X, just to have the most powerful console / best graphics etc.

But I was waiting for the Series X to get cheaper, and it never got any cheaper

Buying prebuilts, GROSS.
In fairness ive been building my own rigs since the early 2000s. Never had an issue, rma, bios issues et et. Then knock on wood, earlier this month went with a new itx am5 build and i spent all fucking weekend troubleshooting. Still not posting. I dont have the time anymore - or dont want to take the time, either way. Really put a sour taste in my mouth and have been watching slickdeals for a prebuilt.

I bought my prebuilt PC from Costco last year, got a really good deal on it because it was the floor model at my local shop. Was a little worried about it not working (people fucking with it on display) but it's been working flawlessly.
How much was it? Maybe I can haggle them to sell me the display pre-built 5080 rig.

edit: I'm no thief, but opening it up and quickly unscrewing the 5080 did cross my mind, I could do it in less than a minute.

It happened to me too. Swapped my son's friend mobo/cpu for mine and his would not post at all. Stressed the hell out of me. Turns out it was the all in one cooler. Weird that it was working on his but when moved to a different build it stopped working. Put in a cpu cooler fan and it worked.

No issues with my new build.

I posted above, but it was on sale for $1299. I asked how much for the floor model, since they didn't have any stock left, and they let me have it for $899. So like $400 off or about a 1/3rd off.

Went to local Walmart to see how the Xbox section looks because of this thread - but no change for now (I know it's not Costco, just random).

However last week I got a Switch Pro controller there for 17 USD, because it seems like all of their Switch accessories are marked 75% off. I wanted joycons for such a great price, but they had none.

When I went today though, they had Joycons in stock again and.. marked down 75%. I asked the employee if they were just sitting in the back, she told me they just received them on the truck yesterday. Corporations are so weird - to send items out just to be marked down 75%. Oh well, I plan to use my Switch for a long time, scooped some of those puppies up at that nice price. Hope you enjoyed my random and not really related anecdote.

Console users laughing at high PC hardware prices are gonna get a serious awakening when Sony gets monopoly on the market.
I know, Nintendo has Mario etc.

but playstation will be the only console for battlefield, call of duty, etc, then they can more or less do what they want in regard of pricing for console, hardware, game prices, online sub and so on.

Just like we are currently seeing with Nintendo upping the prices like crazy recently because they know people will keep paying anyway as it's the only place you can play Mario.

Will be interesting to see what's going to happen in the industry.

The only way Xbox could redeem itself could be by making mini PCs that supports steam together with their own store, as a sort of windows mini pc with focus on mainly gaming.

If I had to guess, the Xbox retail team probably delisted all the available SKUs from Costco (I know that vendors pay listing fees to retailers upfront, but not sure whether it's a recurring payment or not tho) and might be getting the inventory back as per the retail agreement.
The stock they had on shelves probably wasn't moving, and with the latest price increase, well...let's be honest, no one shopping at Costco is about to spend $600+ for an Xbox

So this is the beginning of the end, huh?
The beginning of the end was after they bought ABK.... actually scratch that, it was when they started gamepass. yup, gamepass, because the only way you "win" with a gamepass model, is by consolidating, and they did that by trying to buy up everyone.

Yup, that's when this ended.

I don't see any PS consoles or Switches at my Walmart or BJ's either. When I think about getting a console, it's usually think an online retailer, same for games.

My Walmart used to have all the brands in three rows one after the other by the main walkway. I thought they got rid of Xbox but they moved its section to the back away from the main walkway.

Prebuilt while pc gaming? That's a Paddlin.

Costcos vary by site. Its actually fucking annoying because you often see people citing great deals that only exist in a Costco 2k miles away.

Let me show you the beginning of the end:

XBOXGAMEPASS.jpg

I'll buy whatever box they have next for preservation, and you'd be right to do the same. I don't think we will have another one after this.
Yep, but there was something before Game Pass...Play Anywhere where first party exclusives ceased to exist and Microsoft gave gamers even less reasons to own their console. If Microsoft doesn't bother to make exclusives games for their platform then why should any third party.

Combined with Game Pass well you have a "killer combo".

I mean at this point, if the systems were barely selling at the older price points, why the fuck would they at the higher ones? At some point the Xbox section has to be considered dead space in a brick and mortar retailer, so stores are either going to stop stocking consoles or relegate it to online only.

I wouldn't be surprised if manufacturing had ceased by now and they're just trying to squeeze profits out of the remaining units.

My local GAME (Electronics Boutique) has relegated Xbox to a couple of shelves in the side corner. Most of it is just headsets and controllers. Probably 10-15 actual game cases.

Their second biggest market country.

Very concerning. But given the significant power advantage the Next Xbox will assert over the PS6, this is a decision Costco may regret in years to come!
Because that worked out well for them when they tried it against PS2. And that's when they actually had a great console that offered a few things you couldn't get elsewhere. These days they're pretty much the same systems, but one has the market and brand power the other doesn't.

They won't make another true console anyway. It'll simply be a PC, and a far more expensive one than whatever the PS6 console will cost.

Oh. That stupidity of PC day one was first? My bad. I thought it was part of this launch.

Ahh, their last real market is finally catching up to the rest of the world where Xbox isn't relevant.

Shows how loud and annoying the online minority is and how much that mob plagues social media. Your brand is dead.

Microsoft learned nothing from the PS3, it's not how you start the generation. It's how you finish it. Need to keep some momentum and have your hardware seen.
