CVG: Next Xbox Event scheduled for April 26th

If 8GB DDR3 was always the intention of MS and their devs have been working with 8GB RAM, then we can expect the graphics to blow us away, even after watching the Killzone Shadow Fall video.

I think you're forgetting about some other components that play a tiny little role.

I'm not sure I trust Edge's rumor. I almost think they got it by coincidence. Edge also said that Sony was telling developers it was trying to double it to 8gb; every other source insists no developer had any idea.

I honestly think edge meant double from 2 - 4gb the article was terribly worded as well.

Show me what you've got, Microsoft!

that doesn't raise your eyebrow that not even sony first parties knew that 8 gigs of gddr5 was being added to the ps4? Why the sudden inclusion?

PS4 was always targeting GDDR5 RAM, upgrading to 8 GB didn't require any significant system redesign.

Durango's rumored specs suggest that the entire system design was based around 8 GB of DDR3

There is a good post on B3D that I think zomgwtfbbq linked about how Sony made a fairly recent decision based on 4GB chip availability.

Uh that's not good. That's me and my wife's anniversary

Good news! You can get her in a good mood by being a nice gentleman and then make her watch the Durango unveil and pledge to let you have one!

Not really, as adding more of the same type of ram is a completely different situation as changing your ram type. Which would completely change durango's apu setup. (DMA, ESRAM, etc.)

If ms had changed to gddr5, they must have done it a long time ago.

More RAM talk?! Will it ever end?

I want to see some great games. New IP. New gameplay ideas.

I found Sony's conference to be incredibly underwhelming, and with Nintendo not delivering yet, Microsoft is - unfortunately - the last hope. At the very least, I want to see how they are going to continue with the best and most innovative platform this generation: Xbox Live Arcade.

I get the impression you are never happy. :(

I was pretty happy with Sony's reveal for the most part. The games lineup could have used more work but E3 is still coming. The details portion I was very impressed with. I just naturally try to keep low expectations nowadays.

I am starting to dislike E3, it should be much less relevant then it is now.

More of a convention, less of a end all reveal all for companies.

More companies should do Nintendo directs type shit.

So for the initial reveal games, it will be games that have been made using 8GB DDR3 (Durango dev kits) vs games that had been made using 1.5GB GDDR5 for the PS4 (Orbis initial dev kits). Pretty interesting. Theoretically then, the Nextbox games should have more graphical flair.

wrong thread?

I gotta admit I'm a little worried about the pre-order chaos. There will be online and in-store insanity if pre-orders start the same day. They usually do open up once price and date is announced, right? If they both do that at E3 there will be same day madness. I could be wrong, but I thought that was GS's usual move.

Well, if you're going to base your assumptions on rumours - and you'll have to for Durango - then keep in mind that the same rumours imply that 3gb out of that 8gb is currently reserved for the OS.

Of course, if this is true, then MS can always free that memory up for future games through the generation - just as Sony did with PS3. But initially, you'll see games developed for the smaller pool of remaining memory.

I should just skip it and watch the video summation of it from the British guy that summed up the PS4 reveal. "Guff guff guff Kinect guff guff guff ads guff guff guff living room".
