CVG: Next Xbox Event scheduled for April 26th

Shhh!

We've been told that's wrong.

I guess I'm kind of a double agent as I really want a PS4 also.

I'm getting both unless Microsoft monumentally screws the pooch with Kinect nonsense and doesn't invest in first party development. Which has certainly been the case the past 3 or so years...

In light of the Sony event I hope the first thing they say is "and this is what the next xbox looks like (box on stage)".

And then a bunch of bodypainted circus artists burst out of it and proceed to dance around a giant ram statue for a couple of hours, much to the delight of the ponchoed audience.

Not too worried... if MS is showing off xbox to employees at the beginning of next month we're going to hear a lot of shit about it anyway.

So it begins.

Hype build up. Short amount of time in between events to not let the hype die down.

I think a good number of people won't remember that many things about last week's PS4 conference in April.

Sony embedded the GDDR5 into GAF's head.

Look at the brain for proof.

Yeah, this is reactionary to Sony.

People keep saying they've planned this months in advance are probably right to some degree but I really think they are feeling the pinch now.

We are in for interesting times.

I don't agree at all. Two months after Sony's event is not a reaction (especially since they haven't officially announced anything yet) . How long after Sony's event would you have them wait or would have you not think it is a reaction?

Microsoft isn't worried, just like Sony would not be worried had Microsoft announced first. They both think they have the best system with the best games and ideas.

Yeah, many here will definitely remember that.

And to be honest, I think that will be the only thing that many will remember outside of some of the streaming features they talked about.

I liked the conference but it didn't really leave that much of a lasting impression. Sony can make up for that though at E3.

Maybe but GAF represents less than 1% of the demographic Sony is trying to sell to and the rest don't know what GDDR5 is let alone care about it.

This is pretty true also.

Yeah, I'm expecting some (silly) shot/comment direct towards Sony if they show the Next Xbox console at the event.

e.g.: "Unlike others, we actually like to show you the product we are having a big event for. Here it is..."

I don't think they will have to even say anything for the point to get across to the audience.

Should be intersting.

I don't think they were trying to sell GDDR5 to people who don't care about ram or console specs, seems obvious.

Yeah my opinion of the Sony conference soured as I realized all the games that looked cool to me they showed were multiplatform. E3 I think is when they'll throw out TLG/Naughty Dog/SE, etc.

The more I think about the conference, the more underwhelming it is, and the more I think that most of my hype was just anticipation for us to see next gen already. But I try not to get caught up with that.

8GB is definitely the one thing that still resonates.

Good ol' Boogie taking the conversation and twisting it into something else, of course they were selling it to us and they did a great job.

However don't expect their general demographic to remember the GDDR5 by E3, I think the Gaikai features will last in their heads far longer.

Sony is saving their best shit for E3. No doubt about it. I'm curious if Microsoft is going to follow suit, by just showing off some smaller stuff at the April event, or if they're going to go all out and show most of what they have. Obviously they won't show the whole deck, but they definitely have room to show more than what Sony did in terms of games and features.

Either way, I'm excited!

Whilst I can understand why they want to be the "all in one entertainment" box, for this reveal I feel it is important for Microsoft to focus a lot more on the system, new games and improvements made gaming wise to Xbox Live. After all, a lot of 360 gamers and potential new gaming orientated customers will be watching this event, not the so call "casual" crowd.

What concerns me aswell as the negative rumours surrounding the new Xbox is the surveys they offer on the Live rewards scheme. I've done quite a few of these surveys and I can't remember the last gaming focused one, it was all about stream apps, fitness use with Kinect and how many hours you watch video and listen to music.

I feel they need to do a better job of balancing their strategy to gamers, their last e3 spent too much time on ESPN style announcements which I didn't think E3 was the right platform to go deep detail on that sort of stuff.

Cautiously optimistic on this new system

Just thought that mentioning their target gaming audience not caring about GDDR5 was an obvious point, not trying to twist your words, try to keep it civil dude :).

Do we really think we won't see anything PS4 related between now and April 26?

They couldn't have picked a better strategic time, I think the general media hype will have settled by then, unless Sony plan to reveal the look or of their console between now and then.
Hmm, doesn't seem to be near as much excitement as the PS4 event :P
Would there have been the same level of hype had the public known what exactly was going to be shown?

Of course we will but there is only so many bombs they can drop, they are going to need a huge E3 event just like Microsoft will.
I think we will see more games at the Xbox Event than the PS Meeting since they gave more time dor devs to be more prepared.

You mean to tell me there are more Sony fans on GAF than Xbox?

Wow I never would have guessed!

Sounds like something a fanboy would keep track of.

"THERE'S TOTALLY MORE OF THIS FAN THAN THAT FAN ON HERE!"

Geeze. The Sony event was hard enough to wait for. Two whole months is going to be torture.

I know right, hopefully when MS make an official announcement, the HYPE train can take off.

I really enjoyed the build up to Sony's conference, and wasn't disappointed. Generally, it takes a lot to disappoint me, since I always look at Press Conferences as nothing more than trade shows. So I doubt that MS will disappoint me, unless they really ,really find a way to fuck up.

Kazification worked because at least people can entertain the notion that Kaz actually cared a bit about the gaming division of his company. Balmer is hardly the paragon of forward-thinking, innovative corporate leadership (when it comes to any area of MS's products) and there's better people in MS to get the X-ification meme applied to them in relation to Xbox then freaking Balmer of all people. The man has let the company atrophy.

It might not be in the best interest of hardcore gamers, but multiple sites/networks (that don't cover gaming news) will give news to the fact that there is a new Xbox based on the features outside of just gaming.

It's basically sets the system up in a better position for more people to know about. As long as they deliver in terms of games, them talking about other features outside of it shouldn't really matter much to people who just care about games.

Not sure if serious dude
