I'm not even stressing about infusing. Setting aside that drop rates are waaaaay too low to even contemplate infusing everything up to the same level, but there are three things here:

Drop rates are too low and too random meaningfully allow me to optimize. Iron Banner and Trials of Osiris both gave me DISC/STR helmets, which I hate. I want INT/DISC or INT/STR. Both of those events have the perk I want "Angel of Light" and both of them only have the helmet available for a limited time. Even outside of that, when was the last time you got a legendary weapon drop? Or some boots when that's what you need? I'm missing like 8 pieces of armor that I need to really build some kits, so it's not an issue of me wanting something incredibly specific at a high light level. Beyond that, I actually care about how I look. I hate my Hesperos helm. I don't feel like a Titan with it on, but it's the only INT/DISC, Better already helmet I've gotten since TTK launch. I just want drops. I want some gloves with pulse rifle loader, I want them with sniper loader, I want them with scout loader. I want to experiment. Which brings me to my next point.

Leveling of gear discourages experimentation, especially with the absurdly high XP requirements for armor. How do I know which I'll like better, sniper loader or scout rifle loader? Provided I can even get both, it takes 10x more XP to level up even a purple armor piece than a weapon. And weapons get telemetries. It's ridiculous. I'm actually out of armor parts right now because I keep trying new gear and spending glass needles to re-roll my exotics. AND I CAN'T BUY MORE. C'mon, Bungie.

Finally, going down in level feels bad. Before, it was "hit max level once, do whatever you want." Now, it's a constant juggling act between what do I want to do, what gear can I swap out without taking the biggest hits, etc. And while I feel big and mighty as a 315 Hard Raider, going down to 295 to play Crucible doesn't feel like progression. It feels like a demotion. I'm not saying it is, I'm saying it "feels" like one.

Great posts all around John. I am feeling exactly the same way now. I've abandoned my quest for a high LL because it is not important to me beyond 310 and most of my playtime is in PvP Crucible where that doesn't matter. I hover around 302 now.

I had been using my raid gear to infuse my INT / DISC gear with Pulse and Scout reloaders, Chest Armor each for Solar, Arc, and Void armor and increased Sniper (PvE) and Shotgun (PvP) ammo, and Boots with Rocket and MG ammo. All I need is 1 helm. I only play my Titan so I've had a lot of time to min/max this class.

I am able to hit Tier 5 INT and DISC with whatever I need, so I've been lucky with drops. I am starting to look for INT / STR for the new Striker and Defender but am not looking forward to that quest and RNG. Otherwise the vendors have had pretty decent variety in what I would need.

I just wish that there wasn't so much shit tied to a piece of gear. Light, a stat distribution, plus perks that could mean there are I dunno dozens of combos that you can get when you only want 1-2 of them.

It seems that many people think its worth it.

My wife asked if I though $150 was worth it. I asked her if she thought the $1000 bed we just bought was worth it.

Yep, it's completely subjective to what is "worth it" or not.

Am I the only one who liked the early year 1 loot system better? I'm obviously not talking about legendary engrams turning into blues... I'm talking about the journey to get my full VoG armor. The FIVE MONTHS, of hardcore playing, to get my Gjallarhorn..

Now, I feel as if all the loot is underwhelming. The raid gear is average. Trials gear is average. Exotics are meh. Mostly everything is handed to you... It's like loot socialism, everything is equally average and not rewarding...

Maybe it's just me.

Are you talking about landing from a jump and hitting a full stop? You either hit geometry or weird physics bug.

Average is the major theme of weapon design. Bungie doesn't want anything too powerful and it's rather unfortunate.

Playing with randoms is just a circus act. I won't even go into that. I could write a novel about randoms in pvp.

Just keep this in mind. When playing with other good players you are cannibalizing each others kills. Usually the more aggressive person will get to them first. It seems like your play style is staying back in 3v3. Use it to your advantage. If your teammates push try to keep a sight line with at least one of them. If they need to drop back you are ready with some cover fire or a sniper shot to down the attackers. 3v3 is more about communication and controlling the map in your favor. I love trip mine and lightning grenades for that very reason. 95% of the time I can angle them on any wall I want to keep enemies at bay to to kill people if they rush or go for a revive. It can help give the team time to retreat, revive or attack. Sometimes in 3v3 assists are just as good as kills. Everyone gets points and that means you have a good team shoot working. The numbers on the scoreboard don't always tell the full tale of the match as well. It just sounds like you need to play with a consistent group and develop some plans of attack. I'd invite you to play, but I'm on X1. Play with the guys you have fun with. No one gets to mercury alone. You need a fire team of 3 for matchmaking. I doubt you were hiding in a corner cloaked when playing with them (I think someone was trying to 2 man trials with an additional logged in character as backup)

Huh. I never thought about it as cannibalizing each others kills in a match. I can't argue that since assists exist. Perhaps playing with randoms is more futile than I thought. The reason I do it is because it's annoying having to use this thread to find folks who want to do crucible sometimes. I can get trains going every now and then, just not all the time.

Perhaps I should stop obsessing over the scoreboard. I do hate going negative. <1.0 is awful. 1.0-1.99 is okay. 2.0+ is preferred. This is in anything I do related to PvP.

You don't need trick sparrows for tricks, unless the bounties work differently from the SRL book. Literally just press up on the D-pad while in the air for a trick on regular sparrows, using destabilizer sparrows is just going to mess you up while racing.

By boost you mean acceleration? When you land is it like you come to a complete halt? You're probably just hitting the ground with your Sparrow's nose or tail at a bad angle so you "skip" off the ground.

Are you on a Trick Sparrow trying to do rolls?

You don't need trick sparrows for tricks, unless the bounties work differently from the SRL book. Literally just press up on the D-pad while in the air for a trick on regular sparrows, using destabilizer sparrows is just going to mess you up while racing.

The investment team has clearly been prioritzing a grind to stretch the content as far as possible. Why? Because I think that they correctly realize most people are chasing 320, rather than optimizers like me. But they're partly at fault here because their design decisions are telling players that's what matters.

The new light system is a mistake and not only does it not change the progression depends on RNG of year 1, it doubles down on it.

I wish you gave this speech at a company wide Bungie event where everyone was present. and that you were in charge of leading them in a new and more common sense direction.

As much as I was negative before the sparrow races, I gotta say it's not too shabby. I wish it had more tracks. There's a bit of depth to the racing rabbit hole too.

I would've preferred a new raid, but I'm not upset over the racing. Hell of a lot better than that queen shit.

YES. God yes, I've been playing RoS while watching Jessica Jones and that game is so damn fun. Made a seasonal warrior, and am working on a set that's already making my rend do %500 damage each second and will make my whirlwind into tornado country.

Once you get max level, it is all about obtaining gear that fits your playstyle.

Pre-RoS and early ROS.. your playstyle/build was dictated by what dropped for you. Now, loot drops enough that you can aim for a build that fits your playstyle and obtain the gear for it.

Destiny is "get max light no matter what".

Chance at exotic jump ropes to drop in various colors, lights, etc!
Get legendary boots that increase your jump height! (Edit: Only works in jump rope battle matches!)

........ You can only get rewards for completed bounties/challenges. There is no "picking up" lol. Once you did it it'll be greyed out and you can click it and get the reward. You need to actually complete the things first though.

It would be misleading if Bungie ever said that. They haven't. The only time they have confirmed their plan was this week where they said we will keep getting event like drops that are supplemented by microtransactions. Go back and read the wording of the Silver announcement, it clearly says that the microtransactions are to bolster the live team, not that DLC like the DB and HoW will be free.
